US Senate overwhelmingly passes anti-Asian hate crimes bill

(CNN) - The Senate passed with a wide bipartisan majority Thursday a bill denouncing discrimination against Asian communities in the United States, and creating a new position at the Justice Department to expedite reviews of potential Covid-19-related hate crimes.

The vote was 94-1. The lone vote in opposition was from Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley.
The bill would also direct the departments of Justice and Health and Human Services to issue guidance raising awareness of hate crimes during the pandemic, and work with agencies to establish online reporting of them. It now goes to the House before being signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Thursday that the bill is "proof" that "the Senate can work to solve important issues," and would tell bigots "we're going after you."

The bill, sponsored by New York Democratic Rep. Grace Meng and Hawaii Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono, gained momentum after the shootings of six Asian women in Atlanta on March 16 drew even more attention to the rise of anti-Asian violence over the past year.

Some Republicans were initially skeptical about the legislation known as the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act but Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins and others teamed up with Hirono to strike an agreement broadening its support.

Hirono said Thursday that the bill's passage "sends a clear and unmistakable message of solidarity" to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Collins said it "affirms our commitment to stand with" them against hate crimes.

Last week, Hawley indicated his opposition to the bill, saying it was too broad and "open-ended" since it mandates "all this data collection in expansive categories that the federal government will collect and maintain."

"That concerns me," Hawley said.

Hirono and other Democrats have also pressured Biden to include more Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in top roles. Biden has since named Erika Moritsugu, a former official at the National Partnership for Women & Families and counsel to Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth, as a liaison to the AAPI community.

Of the 23 Cabinet-level positions requiring Senate consideration, Biden nominated two Asian Americans: Katherine Tai for trade representative and Neera Tanden for Office of Management and Budget director. Tai, the daughter of immigrants from Taiwan, was confirmed as the first woman of color to be the top US trade negotiator.

But Tanden's nomination failed after West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, announced his opposition due to her long string of comments attacking Republicans.

another waste of taxpayer money dijo:
(b) Guidance relating to COVID–19 pandemic.—The Attorney General and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in coordination with the COVID–19 Health Equity Task Force and community-based organizations, shall issue guidance describing best practices to mitigate racially discriminatory language in describing the COVID–19 pandemic.

Bills like this wouldn't need to exist if you prosecuted the offenders using laws that already exist, but apparently that's too hard to do in this day and age.

I don't know when this happened but basically discrimination against Asians is okay.

He is the same senator who also objected to the election results as well. The most based GOP senator as of right now.
Josh Hawley is one of the few honest politicians we have left, God bless him and the Atlas task he has of dealing with leftist trash calling him a Nazi.

It's a double-edged sword

On one hand, Niggers will be held accountable for their actions against Asians... in theory anyway. I know the darker your skin the more sympathy the progressive stack will give you, but Asians aren't exactly white either. Unfortunately Asians are stuck in this weird middle ground where the left will just pick and choose to group them with whites or not. Kinda like spanish people in a way (see LatinX and how spanish people were being treated like shit because they were voting conservative instead of liberal)

On the other hand, considering a lot of people don't like China, this can be more leverage for the China cock-suckers to use against anyone anti-china. Even saying "I hate China and the Chinese" could get you in hot water.
Honestly fuck asians. They have the gall to complain about systematic white supremacy when they earn much more than anyone, they also blame white people for attacks they had nothing to do with.

Even the Asian American voted AGAINST it.
Hirono is a cunt and proof FDR probably should have interned those slant eyes on Hawaii against the wishes of the state government there during World War 2. As for Duckworth, if only sand niggers can do anything right for once in their lives but nope, always half ass a job.

Honestly fuck asians. They have the gall to complain about systematic white supremacy when they earn much more than anyone, they also blame white people for attacks they had nothing to do with.
Both pajeets and slant eyes hate each other but vote Democrat because you know, whitey bad and evil and all that shit and gibs for niggers.

Even the Asian American voted AGAINST it.

As much as I hate political ads, I hope this'll be used as easy triggerbait in the next elections by whoever challenges the incumbents in the next election (if they run for another term)...but Hawaii people will probably still re-elect them anyway because something something blue no matter who. *sigh*

I'm curious as to what the flesh of that amendment was, or if that was the extent of it. Regardless, I think this is the manifestation of the "your goal is to get as many red/blue bills passed" mindset Tulsi Gabbard claimed was stated as part of her Congressional orientation when she went on Joe Rogan's show.

Even then... this is a really mindless move.

Even the Asian American voted AGAINST it.
Both of them did.

The dam will crash and their hubris will drown them.
Are people really still talking about this? The dam isn't collapsing. Those people on the internet who told you they were dam experts were lying. There's nothing wrong with holding a hearty portion of skepticism for anything that comes out Chinese media, but what's the point when conversely you'll take anything from some asshat on /pol/ at face value? They're just as likely to have ulterior motives and with even less accountability. It was sensationalism from the very beginning.

There's nothing really in there, in it's current form it just creates official language and reporting methods for the subject, there are no actual crimes or punishments anywhere. Are they planning on adding them, or it this it?

You'd think they'd vote against a party for illegal mexican immigrants. They've hated mexicans since the time they made a elvis in drag poster for a movie hateelvis.jpg

Damn shame this guy isn't still around to Slap a Jap.

Despite having a D next to his name, he was basically the anti-McCain. Spoke out against the glowies, backed Taiwan, opposed NAFTA, opposed reparations (because apparently anyone who didn't feel like volunteering to serve deserved to rot in the camps, or something), and told his family to get him out of office as soon as he was unable to fulfill his obligations.

Coming to a blue state near you: the cops arrest your ass for calling it "China virus" on Facebook.

Communecticut already did it to a couple of frat boys yelling words in a college parking lot. They weren't even saying it to a black student...just yelling it drunkenly because edgelords. They also set the glowies-- Federal glowies-- on some kid at another campus over an "It's okay to be white" poster. No, the poster was not tacked to the door of the Non-Binary Triracial Differently-Abled Student Center in an intimidating manner. It was just posted to a normal bulletin board outside, and had nothing else on it but the phrase.

New England still copes pretty hard that it's not Old England. They'd each give anything to have Jeremy Corbyn or Sadiq Khan for state governor.
