I'm sure he retained nothing, He also may have learned stuff that would be considered ancient nowadays. Do we know when he was in? Small unit infantry tactics were changing at a rapid rate including individual marksmanship. A lot of what I was taught in infantry school was obsolete when I hit the fleet. I wasn't being taught useless shit by nobodies either. You could see an evolution in workups as vets from the last deployment taught what they knew and then new ideas were worked in from NCOs and SNCOs who went to various schools. Then we'd be taught stuff completely different when we'd run a range with instructors from outside the battalion.
