I see what you're saying - essentially, that maturity of subject matter and maturity of treatment are two different things. And I suppose I just wanted to apologise if I appeared to be taking a terribly snobbish, condescending attitude towards cartoons. Like, "oh, Spongebob Squarepants - expresses the basic Existential dilemmas of the human condition
so profoundly"...

It's just that, with the possible exception of "Up" (which I understand dealt with death, the grieving process etc.), Dobson seems to have chosen such exceptionally
fluffy examples of media intended - first and foremost - for children. Which makes his claims to "maturity" laughable.
Can any Kiwis who really know their animation perhaps share examples of cartoons that take "mature" themes - and cover them
in a mature way? (Powerlevelling terribly here, but - well, "Ren and Stimpy" was the last cartoon I paid any serious attention to, so I really have
no idea what I'm talking about!
