Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Even if the fentanyl alone didn't do him in, there was enough of the other shit to finish the job.

I think that person is mistaken for how "drug tolerance" works. I knew a woman that did heroin for years and finally OD'd. By his logic that should have been impossible.

He is mistaking "making a drugs effects less intense" with "you can take enough drugs to knock an elephant out if you practice long enough."

Don't forget where the narrative came from. Before toxicology was made public, all his friends, family, and community leaders came out and swore that he was a good boy that didn't do no drugs. One of the major networks did a sit down interview with his friend or brother or something and he went on and on about how George had a drug problem in his younger days, but he had overcome all that and had been clean for a very long time. A few days later, toxicology dropped, and everyone pretended like the good boy shit never happened. In less than 12 hours, they went from "he doesn't use drugs" to "he did so many drugs so often that what you think is a fatal dose probably wouldn't apply to him." They don't care what happened. They care what power and influence it brings them. It's all a giant grift.

I honestly don't think Ellison was doing some 4D chess play that would entail him sacrificing his career for the cause either. I think he was just trying to grandstand on being the one to prosecute the Killer KKKops and hope the sheer force of public opinion is enough to carry his case.
