For those that didn't watch, a few key takeaways from Ask the Autist today...
I think the most important part came near the end when Phil figured out that the blip in his Paypal was not from Will or a chargeback, but was SilentBob tipping. Why is this so odd?
Phil says that StreamLabs has still not responded to him. He has 'some people' (read: more than SilentBob) who are not on the streams, but who would tip him daily through the Streamlabs link which is now dead. Phil would get it with the name and message. Now, because the link doesn't work anymore, they send it directly to his PayPal. But Phil doesn't know it is there until he checks his Paypal manually. This 100% confirms that Phil has behind the scenes arrangements with whales, who tip on the regular, who apparently may sometimes go undocumented, and who are not even present on the streams.
As usual, the only interesting parts of Ask the King are the questions that offer weird windows into Phil's bizarre behaviors that he presents as normal, narratives that Phil can't keep straight, and weird money shit that allows us a glimpse into the ongoing scams. Big ups to Will, who's large tip caught in limbo is making Phil fumble all over his very transparent accounting. You really owned the trolls, buddy.
- Phil spends an extended amount of time fellating SFIV in his account of the failings of modern Capcom and SFV in particular. This is particularly hilarious because as Phil talks about how great SFIV, he will, tomorrow night, play the anniversary collection once again instead of picking up SFIV and going a few rounds.
- He mentions his mom criticized his spending habits as he filled his condo with statues in CT. Phil interpreted this as her saying he should get a bigger place so he had more room for shit. He again said that he was looking to burn money because he had so much of it.
- Phil talks about cultural swings and takes a vaguely anti-censorship stance, railing against appealing to 'exhhhtreams'. But don't say 'snort' at the wrong time or you will be wiped from the pig's sight. He also says he was an idiot in the past, his values have changed, he is evhalving as a human.
- Phil presents a pair of jeans. He owns 4 pairs. During this segment, Phil notes that he wears PJs because they're comfy (he has previously refused to call them this), and does not understand why jeans have become a meme for him. He has had these jeans for 8 or 9 years, and wears them when he goes out once a week. That's the meme, Phil. You leave the house once a week. It's the same meme as your decade old New Balances that are still pristine.
- While then giving advice on how to work efficiently and professionally at home (no note of irony after the last section), Phil describes having an organized work space. He gets upset when chat points out he wallows in chaotic filth. Phil claims things are messy but organized, which is how he keeps things running effectively without delays. He was late to start stream today. He then yells "If you think it is easy, why don't you do it bitch?" and explains that people don't have the skills to make it work. Literally every restreamer has a better stream than him. Tevin runs circles around him with green screens and multiple cams and has done so for years.
- When asked about his dislike for the practice of season passes, Phil commented on season passes and DLC. During this section, Phil comments that he doesn't buy season passes anymore after getting burned by the Arkham games. He also rarely if ever does DLCs due to a decline in interest from his audience. He points out he did get the Pokemon DLC/season pass. That's great Phil. You realize you claimed monthly microtransactions during your bankruptcy? You just got baited into admitting you've barely bought DLC's in the last 2 years. What were the "microtransactions" Phil?
- Phil tips his hand on business - while talking about the 'games as service model' and paying for it up front with the idea that it will be completed over time, Phil says that it is a bad idea to pay for something up front as your money loses value over time. There is no contractual obligation once you've paid for that 'service' that they will fulfill it to your expectation. He gave games as examples, but I would like to also include: sub goals/viewer's choice marathons, vestivals, stream improvements, and tax fundraisers as other 'pay up front' schemes that a business doesn't then feel obligated to follow through on.
- Don't listen to other content creators about those games. They're not like Phil. They are "looking to make a buck. They're looking to make a living.' Says the man with the tips goal and sub goal right above his cowboy hat.
- Phil talks about his future as a content creator and says that he has some vague idea of transitioning to having shows dedicated to topics, rather than gameplay. He wants to 'have a discourse'. I don't know if he understands that to 'have a discourse' you have to actually be willing to talk with other people and hear different opinions. But he appears to see his future as some sort of pundit/podcaster. This may explain why he has been trying to engage with different topics on Twitter - he thinks he is developing some future brand.
- Phil retcons the '10 year plan to get a job' and the promise that he made to his mom (to get $4k that as far as we know did not go to taxes or debt) to sound like it was a plan to leave streaming and get a job in 2020. Phil frames this as 'if he had done this', it likely would have destroyed his life because he would have had no income. This makes no sense on multiple levels. You took $4k from your mom and lied to her Phil. This story will never be anything more than that.
- Phil insists that he loves doing co-op with people, but his stream hates it. People demanded that he stopped playing Apex. It wasn't because the game got stale... but the game also got stale. But it released new content and Brian kept playing, while Phil did not go back because of his audience. Please note that at the time, Phil liberally shit on the game and refused to try new content, saying it was 'too little, too late'. This is a retcon.
- WillSonofAragorn's 'fairly large' mystery tip is still being held by the bank. Phil will not say the actual amount. At one point, Phil asked if it did clear because his PayPal total went 'bwoop' (classic hand graph in an upward motion was made), but that didn't jive with the current tips total. Later, he sends a 'smaller' tip to test if 'smaller' tips can get through. It was $10. Remember this if Phil never mentions this guy again, he is likely hiding a large tip.
- This was NOT his tip, and Phil believes it may have been a 'longstanding tip' that was finally charged back that was 'found in his favor'. So Will's tip accidentally forced Phil to admit that he won a chargeback. Do you suppose we would have heard about this otherwise? Nah.
