Link is barely a character; he's more like a vague caricature of badassery, embodied with a couple recognizable characteristics. The purpose is that people playing the games can easily project themselves onto the protagonist and feel immersed in the adventure.
Unless, of course, the person in question has an odd fascination with brown hair...
Agreed, if you want a playble female character , why not Zelda? Isn't it the Legend of Zelda anyway? So why would you want to turn Link into a girl when you already got a female main character and her name is in the title?
Here's an idea:
Make Link a girl and Zelda male.
and then tell the story of how to save Link from Zelda's perspective.
The butthurt would be off the scale.

Hey Dobson! I found a manga where Link is a girl.
You know what? I've seen works by Da Hootch that just went above and beyond the call of duty to be fucking insane. I've seen one of his works centred around a teenaged Yotsuba who's a drug addicted slut that dies of an overdose during an orgy or some shit... This guy's goal in life seems to be the creation of the most offensive wank-manga you can imagine.

And still, they aren't half as depraved and disgusting as anything made by 'CattyN'.
I dare him to totally annihilate the chances of Alex and Lesbian kick as a couple forever. Destroy it totally. Make them both straight. Go on, Dobson, it's the easiest thing to do. You won't even need to come up with new designs or anything.
Nah, too easy. Here's my take: Alex remains bi and Ratvomit remains a lesbian but they are not attracted towards each other. Not even a tiny bit.

I bet you anything, the idea would blow Dobson's mind. He's the kind of guy who fawns over lesbians, but since it's only a fetish, he's not going to realize there's more to a lesbian relationship than "we're both girls and like to lick carpet, therefore we should scissor now."
Or some kind of rampant autism

Fuck off Dobson.
Is he... insinuating that Manga-characters are white?
I knew this fucker had no clue about anything he does, but this is just... *sigh*

Edit:
1) 2011's Reddit called, it wants the "le [something]"-gag back.
2) mentally screaming [...] in your head? So you imagined yourself imagining yourself screaming?

With the Link thing I know what I'd do.
Carefully have the game's dialogue and stuff never refer to Link by gender.
He is pretty androgynous looking.

When people complain about no girl Link, point it out and accuse them of sexism.
Reap the butthurt.

Dobson rattling off on GamerGate. First of all, I don't think Dobson even knows how to catagorize GamerGate anymore beyond "they hate things" and "they're on the opposing side of me". Second, anyone else enjoy the irony of this devout feminist portraying a woman that represents a movement he dislikes as having ugly features? If he drew Vivian James not knowing about Gamergate, think she'd still have that miserable expression and meth head eyes?

Dobson could have saved some time by re-using some of his older art.

It must be weird these days for Dobson to draw something and not feel any urge to wank over it. Maybe he still does?

Edit: I had to view some terrible images to get the material for that composite. I wonder if he still sells torture porn of women being killed, or does he reserve it for his own personal wanking needs? Either way, I wouldn't leave him alone with children, and that makes his Dobbo the Bear thing seem very creepy.

There has been a black guy since one of the old animes from before most if not all Kiwis were born. That character in question is Pyunma, Cyborg 008 from an anime known as Cyborg 009.

If Dobson thinks there were never any black people in anime until this day, he is dead wrong since this character has been around since at least 1966 if not earlier.

Man, I remember watching one of Cyborg009 remake series (very goodman good, if you ask me) and one of the episodes I remember most is when is revealed that he was a child soldier and needs to kill a friend turned evil cyborg.

Say what you will about early parts of that franchise but they actually tried as the time go to be more sensible about Not using stereotypes (or the characters being way more than that) or how the world changes. And Japan, at times, is actually kind of clueless in this regard.

Still, many do try to be better.

Oh, I didn't mean to bash the style of art, I was just saying how Dobbie will explain why he won't watch it and it doesn't count so he can still be right there are no black anime characters.
Didn't think you bashed the style of art but yeah, Dobby would try to say the original Cyborg 009 is racist just because of the black face and on a minor note, the Chinese character having squinty eyes. Funny thing, a page from TV Tropes (I know the site is autistic and all but the fridge brilliance thing kinda makes sense when considering the backgrounds of the characters and how they become a team and all), mentions that this could be the author saying war affects everyone and that the author himself would want people to get over the racist and nationalistic borders and form a friendship.

Someone already brought up that GamerGate image Dobson made.

Dobson just ignores all praise to sulk over the few people who criticise his works... but yeah, in Dobbo-world he's got this self-perception of being such a humble and level-headed guy.

He handles criticism like a 6-year old brat, throwing tantrums and pouting. He nods praise and approval through as something he deserves in huge amounts anyway.
Thanks for reminding me of this awesome show!

Even Dobson's attempts to be an SJW are off; most SJWs would seriously object to the idea that anime characters are "white". It's true though, if you look around there are interesting discussions on this topic which show how anime characters look more Japanese than they do white (or like neither, but definitely not white). There are plenty of more realistically drawn anime and manga as well where all the characters have a natural range of typically Japanese hair and eye colors. Isn't it more racist to assume that some cartoon character who has a Japanese name, lives in Japan, and speaks Japanese must be white because lol his eyes aren't squinty? The bottom line though is when Japanese people design and see anime characters, they see Japanese people. You're not being particularly progressive by invalidating that with your ethnocentrism Dobson!

It's even for kids!
(sperg note: I do like how the Pokemon games handled this. Until recently all were set in fictionalized but geographically-accurate regions of Japan, where a citizen can easily live out their life never seeing a black person in the flesh, and nearly 100% pasty people. Then the games set in the USA had multiple major and minor black NPCs, clearly-white characters, untranslated foreign-language speech in the largest city, and obviously-Japanese tourists to show how Not Japan this is. Then the following games set in France continued the trend of including black NPCs and allowed you to play as a dark-skinned protagonist.)

I've heard other artists say tracing is a valuable learning tool but I fail to understand how. The best way to draw is to understand the underlying structure, starting with a line of action and simple shapes. Tracing doesn't teach you any of that.

Many young artists on tumblr don't care that they're not learning the foundations of translating 3D forms to 2D because they haven't yet accepted that they can't get around learning that if they want to get anywhere in art and that not being able to do this will be a huge roadblock sooner rather than later, no matter how perfectly rendered the Rudolph noses on their disemboweled neon furries. Advice like in that tweet is preaching bad habits which will just make eventually unlearning years of symbol drawing and shortcuts even harder. It's a whole new generation of kids learning from anime, except the anime is other people on tumblr and they think learning this horribly limited repertoire from regurgitating other art is okay because it's Steven Universe fanart instead.

The toolbox of the new tumblr-inspired 'progressive' artist:
Smarm Brow, Rednose, Rectanglebody and Squigglelines. Also never even try to paint within the boundaries for the background. Round up your repertoire with a 2-frame gif animation.

When people trace art too much or limit themselves to really narrow genres of art, the outcome will always be a generic-looking, uninspired mess. It's pretty much guaranteed to lead to some sort of cargo-cult "style" - much like what Dobson produced with Alex ze Pirate, he just steals designs and concepts from a variety of sources, haphazardly punches them together in a flimsy, dissonant manner and calls is a "stlye".

As an amateur artist myself, I have to agree with this.
Tracing doesn't teach you Jack.
You're just outlining another artist's work, and their mistakes too.
If you want to be any good at anatomy, you need to understand how posture works.
You need to understand how the underlying shapes work.
You need to understand how all of the shapes come together to form your art.

Tracing doesn't provide any sort of learning experience, and anybody who says so deserves a slap.

His McDonald's addiction will force him to brave the wilds of the outside world at least once a week if not more often.

*Pssst* Hey, Dobson! Maybe if you weren't such an insufferable douche all the time, more people would be inclined to be nice to you. Just a helpful life tip.

And you should see the 13 year old little fans sperging on his deviantart page. If anything, they are worse than Blockor.

No worries, he's drawn her in the other extreme as well: bright, bubbly and cutesy despite her personality being nothing like that. Pretty sure it was one of his first "lol gamergate r dumb" comics

The same humble and level headed guy who went into a mini depression when Ninja Turtles did well at the box office. The same guy who has an ED page.

I remember that anime.
