LUCASFILM GAMES HITS LIGHTSPEED TOWARD THE FUTURE - EA loses EXCLUSIVE Star Wars license in 2023

Lucasarts was once my favorite game studio, Way Back When(Tm.) Shocked to find out they still technically exist.

Didn't they declare the entire EU un-canon? What even is "The larger saga" anymore? Christ the truth is relative even in fiction.
I think they kept parts of Darth Bane, Revan and GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN as part of the canon.

Which im fine with, those stories are probably the strongest three in the expanded universe.

The old EU was non-canon. Everything Disney has put out, everything, is canon. This includes the fart wedding and even Ben, Anakin, and Yoda knowing Luke was going to be a massive fuck up and only Rey could fix shit.

Here's
Can't Star Wars just die and be done with? At least Warhammer has extensive lore that wasn't burned to the ground to sell books about fart weddings (well technically the world was burned down, but still). With Star Wars it's just the 1000 iteration of either being a jedi or being an evil person who turned to the light side.
They had a chance to do something different when 1313 still looked like it was in the pipeline. Maybe with The Mandalorian being popular they could try bringing that game back again...

The thing I hope for any games is that they don't try to reference the Disney Trilogy too much, that shit is pure Kryptonite.

The problem is that I feel like the mainline Star Wars series has gotten the double-whammy of becoming both badly-written and overexposed due to the Disney omnipresence + the internet.

Even with all the criticism the Lucasfilm era got, each new Star Wars film felt like a significant event, and something that fans would pore over and fantasize about (which produced the original expanded universe).

I'd say another effect is that the sequel world-building and FX don't really stand out, either through the effect of designs becoming less fantastical, or that other FX studios have caught up to them.

Now what needs to happen is that the NFL and FIFA need to end their exclusivity deals with EA, and EA will be forced to change or hit the gutter.
Unfortunately, the NFL and FIFA are as greedy as EA so it's a matchmade in corporate heaven.

One could dream though. Until then, just play older sports games.

1313 was going to be an uncharted clone, for better or for worse.

We’ve got a team of professionals here at Lucasfilm Game

:story:

multiplayer hit Star Wars: Squadrons,

:story:

Lucasfilm Games will continue to guide titles from the franchise perspective, from ensuring Star Wars authenticity to story connectivity within the larger saga.

:story:

“This is really the culmination of years of preparing to come out and say, ‘We’re here, we’ve got a team of people, we’re going to make a lot of great games, and here’s some new things you weren’t expecting from us to do that we’re now starting to do,’”

years, suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, whoring your IPs out when the license deal with EA is still going doesn't sound desperate at all.

Honestly think a ubisoft starwars game could be fun if it has coop. Had a ton of fun in farcry 5.

it's massive, that means division: star wars edition.

Took it long enough. Now we can have some varied vidya again like during the prequel days.

varied nuwars vidya

Ok

Random shitpost aside, I don't care. Unless lesser companies like Larian or Paradox or companies within the indie sphere have permission, expect triple AAA shit as mediocre as EA's tiles. BTW Battlefront 2 was not that bad of a title, it just had shitty microtransactions and a forgettable campaign.

I'm pretty sure they could have just licensed and adapted Zahn's first trilogy just adjust for the main actors being old, and people would have been happy and Star Wars would have printed money. But I guess the Imperial Remnant being led by a hyper-competent non-human whose maybe isn't entirely wrong isn't diverse enough.

I don't know....I actually like the idea of the Division people making a Star Wars game. If its more of a Clone Wars type deal with soldiers/equipment/etc it could turn out to be pretty good and fun.

I hope the For Honor guys make a Jedi vs Sith lightsaber fighting game.

It would be nice if the Ghost Recon team made a tacticool clone commando game.
Also now that Ubishit can make Star Wars games, it's only a matter of time before this becomes real:

Killing LucasArts was a mistake....
"Lucasfilm Games" is just a stamp with no substance to it.
If 1313 somehow rises out of the grave from this, I'll feel somewhat better about the arrangement.

Make more Mercenaries games you pricks.
God damnit now I feel like a hypocrite for wanting more Mercenaries product to consoom...
Pandemic Studios were the ones with the Mercenaries license, not LucasArts.
I have no idea who has the license for it now since Pandemic closed down.

I guess Disney got tired of having no traction in the video game world, and is going to do its best to churn out the dough now that the bazillion-dollarydoo movies are on hold.

Not really optimistic about this, but we'll see.

RC2 would totally make everyone happy and print gobs of money, and yet it will never see the light of day. Fuck. Just copy the Doom cover and replace the demons with Geonosians and the Doomslayer with Sev and the whole Internet will be screaming "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"

so, I take it you haven't played divison?

as some of the handful people that actually played breakpoint, let me just say: good luck.

that was splash damage, of enemy territory fame. and after overwatch made billions just because waifus, no one can talk shit about brink anymore.
I actually liked the art style and level design to the game but holy shit was the player team AI absolute dog shit and ruined what fun you could have in single player, because they didn't want the player team to help complete objectives.
