$600 is better than nothing, but still is a massive slap in the face for those who lost their jobs.
The government doesn't even blink when spending billions upon billions on stupid tanks and missiles to kill brown people in the Middle East.

I imagine a good chunk of this is just going to go towards paying down credit cards and other forms of debt. It's funny that this isn't just paid directly to the financial sector, because they're going to be the ones to get most of it in the end.

Actually that's what the PPP set-aside is for. There's all sorts of pork giveaways this year, but individuals aren't getting much of it. Now, PPP definitely translates into paychecks for workers, in fact I even drew a PPP-funded "salary" this year for a little while. The problem with that was my employer, a true small business, was nevertheless abusing the program just like the bigger corps were/are. They used the money to pad their own bottom line, so while we as employees made a bit more than we would have otherwise, the business owner essentially just transferred the extra money he didn't have to pay as salary into his own pocket.
In case that's confusing:
Say the business sees a 50% reduction in sales, but salaries remain at 100%. The business is now losing money. The PPP offers the business a chance to cover 70-100% of the salaries for X amount of time, so the business either covers those salaries fully (at no cost) with PPP or says "Hey you're only at 80% for a few months" and escapes any cost that way. Meanwhile, since the business is still doing sales while not having to pay ANY salaries, they can take whatever profit they get by not paying their employees and spend it on whatever they want. How much extra the business comes out with varies, and maybe some are still behind even after PPP, but what I saw was a business owner that suddenly didn't have to pay his employees while still making money off their labor.
The government did mandate that X percentage of the PPP had to be used on salary in order to make the "loan" free or whatever (I'm not entirely clear on details here). While this was a sensible measure to ensure that employees got SOME kind of benefit, it really did little to stop grift and there are obviously a bunch of workarounds, like keeping your extra profits while getting out of paying salary (mentioned above).
I don't even want to know how the big corps and MIC made out, I really don't, it makes me sick. This $600 pittance coming 6 months AFTER the $1200 one while everything is still fucked up due to gov'mt overreach is just insulting. We're so fucked and we're all gonna eat shit over this nonsense while the rich jerk off in their ever-increasing piles of cash.

Nah, the sites themselves already take down copyrighted content; and ostensibly fair use remains in place.
What this law will actually do is hurt smaller competitors and result in federal level show trials that are a waste of everyone’s time and money. Imagine being a felon because you played a copyrighted song on your livestream.

Fuck that noise. He'd be better off putting the entirety of the Uniparty on full blast for the public to hear than to allow this to pass, and instead write a standalone EO to counteract their cravenness. Yeah, the media already vilifies him as it is, but it is not worth the criminally insane amount of waste just for what I make in less than two 40-hour weeks of work.

The thing is though the lockdowns have not been equal across the country. You have states like Florida that are practically fully open, and then you have California and New York which are practically authoritarian police states right now. Unemployment is still high, but has collapsed back to single digits. I'd like to see state-by-state breakdowns on a lot of these numbers, because I bet the high unemployment and small business implosions are concentrated in a few states. That's still really bad, because you have concentrated desperation instead of it being evenly defused though the country.
It's still very concerning what is happening. I'm very worried about the lifting of restrictions on evictions. They actually are pushing people too far this time. Between the increasing lockdowns, with actual weak science to back it up, talk of a new strain from the UK, the obvious tranfer of wealth, the never ending nagging for isolation and masks, over half the country thinking the election was stolen, a President that refuses to concede, money printing going burr, and elite politicians basically laughing at in our faces (while not wearing facemasks) something is going to give. Oh yeah, that crazy conjunction that is happening.
We really are one lit match away from a colossal happening.
