WASHINGTON – The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) tonight issued Emergency Directive 21-01, in response to a known compromise involving SolarWinds Orion products that are currently being exploited by malicious actors. This Emergency Directive calls on all federal civilian agencies to review their networks for indicators of compromise and disconnect or power down SolarWinds Orion products immediately.

“The compromise of SolarWinds’ Orion Network Management Products poses unacceptable risks to the security of federal networks,” said CISA Acting Director Brandon Wales. “Tonight’s directive is intended to mitigate potential compromises within federal civilian networks, and we urge all our partners—in the public and private sectors—to assess their exposure to this compromise and to secure their networks against any exploitation.”

This is the fifth Emergency Directive issued by CISA under the authorities granted by Congress in the Cybersecurity Act of 2015. All agencies operating SolarWinds products should provide a completion report to CISA by 12pm Eastern Standard Time on Monday December 14, 2020.

Can you get over it easily? No, you need a ladder and rope and will be going over one by one. You also have to be physically able. Can you drive through it? No - which means you suddenly have no transport on the other side and are now on foot tramping through desert. Or you have to co-ordinate collection on the other side which is further difficulty and risk. Is it easy to damage or tear down? Definitely not - those posts are sunk deep into the ground and concrete fixed. I chuckle at the idea of people smugglers approaching the border in bulldozers and JCBs unobserved.

You didn't cite any evidence of Dominion actually being hit you doofus. If Russia had an exploit for some SolarWinds product, which they were using to target the Treasury Department, there is little reason for them to increase their detection surface by going into some voting systems provider.

Well, it has a number of things about it that would make me accept that it is a real event absent any evidence to the contrary. But I would need more information to accept that it has to do with this election. Who is the "fraud witness", where did this take place and when? Absent some additional details to the claim this could be anything. Wouldn't even know if it is recent.

Is it possible that witnesses could be murdered? I mean, yes - we have cases like David Kelly, Seth Rich, etc. There are certainly factions involved in this fiasco who have the means to carry out a hit. Motivation is available if there really is a witness willing to testify - so that's far from a big leap. Opportunity is a no-brainer. The only things left are risk vs. reward and willingness to kill. Given we're dealing with a faction that happily sends American soldiers to die for the sake of profit, that last one is unarguable. And risk vs. reward is impossible to assess without knowing what this alleged witness actually has.

So I keep an open mind. It's certainly possible but without names and claims of what the witness knows, it sits in an indeterminate state without persuasive value. Just have to wait for more details. Could try and see if the video is taken from anywhere else, I suppose. If it is, we can rule it out as being what they say. If it can't be found anywhere else, that's a modest step towards it being real because if it were fake it raises the bar noticeably for having to have created it.
