Childhood TV Shows That You Barely Remember

Butt Ugly martians. I remember the theme and some small things here and there. It's kind of crazy how a weird sorta meta humor cartoon about some aliens that just wanna vibe show can show up, get popular, then one day seemingly vanish completely. Most you ever hear about it these days is how shitty the animation looks. The martians look fine, but the faux anime cgi humans look like complete ass.

Speaking of things looking like ass, "the nutshack" ended up a weird repressed memory until I was essentially forced to watch an episode of it in a livestream a few years back and it all came flooding back to me. I somehow had just completely forgotten about that show but then remembered episodes and plots and shit from just seeing a single episode of the series. It's one hell of a fucking anomaly how the brain can even work like that.
The weirdest part about the nutshack is how the art is actually really competent but thanks to it moving entirely with motion tweens to save budget it looks really fucking weird and gross at times, though the show being weird and gross was entirely an intentional choice by the creators, so I guess that works in it's favor a little?

Christ, I'm old. A lot of these used to be on the local public access station in my city which was used during the day mostly by the local school district.
 
Among the usual Nick shows that aired in Latin America, there was one that never caught my attention about a soccer team from the UK (wild guess) that never won. I think it had "Renegades" somewhere in the title.

Also on Nick, I somewhat remember the S Club 7 show that usually aired on Saturday nights, but can't really tell about the plot. Not that it matters, it was just to promote that crappy band.
 
I was really little when I watched it, but I recall liking one cartoon on Nickelodeon in the late 80s/early 90s about elves (not tolkien styled elves) or gnomes or something to that effect and their society. I know it wasn't David the Gnome, but it had a similar premise.

Although I never actively watched Vegetable Soup when it aired on the local Public Broadcasting station, I believe it aired before something I'd normally watch and I once caught the tail-end of an episode. What little I still remember of that last clip was some sort of Claymation character singing a piano-based song. My young self was unimpressed.

A short time after that, my next door neighbor asked me if I liked vegetable soup ... most likely the food item. Having watched that clip of the show however, I told him how I thought it was stupid. I probably confused the poor kid. :heart-empty:

I vaguely remember the show Zoom during the last part of its original run in the late 70s. All I could tell you about the show is that it would encourage kids to write in and read/sing off the PO box address followed by "Boston, Mass, 0-2-1-3-4." I'll never forget that ZIP code for as long as can remember.

Just old enough to remember ZOOM and Vegetable Soup. It's crazy the amount of celebrities who did voicework in that show who went on to have big careers: Bette Midler and James Earl Jones among them.

Was a big fan of Newton's Apple and 3-2-1 Contact, which had The Bloodhound Gang segments at the end of every episode. There was also a show called Powerhouse which had an ensemble cast of urban kids in a Brownstone gym and promoted fitness. There are a bunch of episodes of these shows on Youtube, but it would be nice if someone compiled them into a DVD set.

I thought I was the only one who remembered that.

Another one I vaguely remember was a Fox Kids cartoon based on Oliver Twist and an anime called Flint The Time Detective about a caveman boy and two teens from the future who traveled through time and learned about history. There was also the 90's version of Zoom.

I remember Flint The Time Detective and Monster Rancher pretty well despite their relative obscurity but that's probably because I'd watch them near-religiously when I was a kid on Fox Kids and Fox Family. Same goes for Shining Time Station and Cardcaptors.

Matter of fact, Shining Time Station and The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog would normally be those kind of 90's cartoons you only vaguely remember and would be obscure or semi-obscure but I think they both narrowly avoided their fate for a few specific reasons. Both have to do with the fact their parent IP's are pretty much autism magnets.

1. The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog is now well remembered for all the memes and being a common source of fodder for early YTP's back in the late 2000's.

2. Shining Time Station is mainly remembered for being the show where Thomas The Tank Engine first made his debut in the United States back in the 90's.

Thomas may have been a British children's icon since the 1950's but in the United States, he was very obscure up until the mid-90's when Shining Time Station first entered syndication on PBS and then was aired on Fox Family and Fox Kids in the late 90's and helped the little blue train become the autism magnet he's known as today.

3. Shining Time Station also is known for having George Carlin and Ringo Starr in the role of Mr. Conductor at different points, and Alec Baldwin reprising that same role for the infamous "Thomas the Magic Railroad" movie which spawned a fair bit of spergy urban legends online

On that note, I think Cardcaptors only narrowly avoided the fate that a lot of the shows in this thread due to the fact the source material is a fairly iconic 90's anime and because it's considered one of the more meme-tier hackjob dubs that wasn't done by 4Kids.

Escaflowne and Sailor Moon also had similar levels of hackjob dubs, but Sailor Moon was still very popular despite it all and Escaflowne was cancelled too quickly to be anything more than a foggy memory.
