Yknow, after skimming through a few SYAC comics, it seems that Dobbles' has always had an issue with fucking up his references by trying to change their designs to suit his tastes, like drawing the inklings with bland sneakers and elf ears instead of their colorful shoes and squid fins or adamantly drawing the shitty saturday morning cartoon link with brown hair instead of the modern blonde one. Its actually pretty ironic that he has no problem with changing other people's characters to make them "better" when he himself can't handle being told how to make his art better.

I can think of only one situation where doing basic chores deserves that kind of praise and I'm not even sure if it counts. For a person suffering from major depression simply getting out of bed can be a challenge, let alone taking care of oneself, but a 'yay!' would probably sound condescending in that case.

I sometimes wonder if Dobson is suffering from some form of depression. I just get the impression he enjoys it.

It's like "Where's Waldo?" only you're looking for fucked up anatomy, bad perspective, and general lazy shortcuts. Nice bowtie on that guy's shoe. Also, he's striking Naruto not with fist or elbow but longways with a completely vertical forearm. 'kay.

It's ugly to look at and sadistic. There's so much pleasure on that girl's face as she's kicking Goku in the nuts and it looks painful in a non joking way. Why? Because he's popular and people copy him, even though he's not real? Sick dude.

Sailor Moon has a man face, and her ribbon is wrong which is odd considering Dobson actually likes to draw those. Ash has a claw machine hook hand gripping that poke ball.

Ah, the Dobson thread. My lurking station back on the ED boards. (When I hung out there)
The ED thread is over 2K pages now. Oh, and since I have seen it mentioned a few times, and I'm not sure if you guys know, but the Samus picture was commissioned by a couple Ediots. You might know, since you posted the emails, but just in case. Since it is kind of funny to think that the one commission he has been able to get lately is from his 'haters'. And it took 2 months to complete, if I recall correctly.

Dobson, dude. There are people half as good as you putting out four times the art and making eight times the cash. There is a market out there, guy! (I would know. I am a part of it. If you draw in a style I like, I'll throw money at you for days.) You just have to buck up and advertise yourself. The super-colorful, cartoony, chibi-ish style is selling pretty well right now. You can make bank churning out cookie-cutter rainbow chibi squid girl adoptables on DA. Seriously. Get on that.
And that's all the pep talk Dobbear is getting from me. He got himself into this situation, he can get himself out.

And I have very little to add concerning his social justice nonsense besides 'Fuck you Dobson', 'You don't know shit', and I love the fact that one of my iPad autocomplete options for 'social justice' is 'social justice shitflingers', even though I have never used that combination of insults before. My iPad knows me well.

I kinda sorta praised the first image, since the squidgirls looked ok (and "ok" is a huge step towards improvement with Dobson), but these? They are awefully Dobby-esque. I guess the first image with the Gollum-inkling was his cargo-cult attempt, which failed. The second image (first sketches) were him slowly getting a hang of the look and now he started assimilating them into his own style -> they start to look shitty.

Also, if he handed the pencils over to a digital ink/colouring team, he could have more time to play at being an inky squid kid.

That might work out for him, take a back seat, do the part he enjoys, let the mockery cool off for a while...

I kinda have to agree, if not for one thing- His anatomy is still absolutely shit. Those faces still look like they could melt at any minute, all the detail he puts into them (even with the female and the young ones) and on top of that, his posing if fairly stiff and there's little attempt to try and spice it up a it (like some foreshortening or perspective here and there).

I won't lie, I have similar issues too (and due to work getting in the way, can't really get myself motivated to improve). But it doesn't take a bad artist to realize that Dobbo's work needs heavy refining in all aspects, line art included.

Okay, I sat down and inked and colored one of his sketches. It took me three hours ( 1 hour was me trying to make his sketch work and rework the lines to represent the original designs of the characters better)
I am no pro artist, but I tried my best regardless.

Things I noticed about the sketch whilst drawing:
-The cat (called Judd apparently) is totally off model and his lifted paw is being stretched like rubber
-The face is.. just.. wierd. They have nubby noses and pointy ones for instance. Let's not talk about that mouth.
-Had to adjust the cat and hands and evrything around that portion of the picture and I still don't feel like it works
-Made the cat look less sleepy and more annoyed. Not sure how the cats personallity is, but it seems more natural to me this way.
-He draws good hats

Feel free to give me advice too if I fucked things up.

Yea, I had a lot of trouble with that hand. You are right though, would've been better if I just drew the two fingers grasping the paw. This way it does look a lot like she's ripping his teeny arm off!

What is with Dobson's unhealthy obsession with Splatoon? I imagine that it must be a somewhat enjoyable game, but the way he goes on about it, focusing a bunch of time, tweets, and sketches to it, you'd think it was the next Korra to him.

Wait a minute... what is this? This vivid, nice to look at stuff between the lines? Don't give it away... I know I can solve this! Isn't that like... colors or something? Only in this image, it's not made to look dull by shading it with layers of dark grey or black? Actual genuine unadultured vivid colors? Holy smokes!

Joking aside, I love what you did with that sketch. Especially the warm coloring, when you compare this to Dobson's usual work, his shitty way of doing colors stands out even more. Also compare these nice lines that vary in thickness with Dobson's usual shitty inking.
Now, here's hope Dobson uses the same sketch as well to make a finished image, just to have the perfect comparison.
