Oh for fuck's sake.
Why did I look up Dobson and 'anime' on google?
Seriously, to those of you who were annoyed by Dobson making an image of something you love mixed with his shitty uncare-bear or his lackluster crossovers, I finally know that feel.
God fucking damnit... without further ado, I present to you:
west_vs__east_by_tompreston-d18a83n.jpg
And it even comes with an extra serving of condescending hypocrisy right from the Dob himself:

And again:
"Not to mention it’s corrupting a lot of great American cartoons by being so popular we feel the need to copy Anime so we can ride the fan-waves."
Since this artwork is from 2008 and Avatar (which drew heavily from anime) ran from 2005 to 2008, I'd say it had something to do with this art.
And 4 years later, he's sperging over "The Legend of Korra". What a clown.

But what really gets me is Doraemon being punched by Spot. Now, I know what it is like to have something you enjoy defiled by Dobson. Now I know the annoyance some people here expressed when Dobson made his shitty fanarts about some popular things.
I'm not even a huge fan of Doraemon, but I consider it to be a really smart, creative and funny comic... and Dobson feels a need to have his generic Frankenstein-abomination knock him out? For fuck's sake, Dobson, for fuck's sake.
I guess it's just some sort of powertrip fantasy. The alternative would be to assume Dobson thinks he can actually chastise anime like Naruto, Dragonball and Doreamon with his shitty Garfield-ripoff. So, it's Dobson's Mary Sues beating up things he doesn't like. And Dobson behaves like this accomplishes anything or like it's giving anime a well-deserved comeuppance. I can't even put into words how fucking pathetic that is. It's literally en par with the Sonichu Sub-Episodes where Chris showed himself getting "hog-timed" by "jerkops" and then beating them up with the help of his imaginary friends and magical superpowers.

And on a sidenote:
Lum gets her bra stolen by Peggy the pirate. Lum is one of Rumiko Takahashi's Characters, whereas Peggy is a blatant rip-off of Happosai (another popular character by Rumiko Takahashi). And Dobson has the gall to claim his characters were inspired by Disney, when most of them are rip-offs from everything but Disney. Smooth.
Reminds me of all those hate art you see of anime characters getting maimed; if it wasn't made by a troll, it was made by someone incredibly salty over the fact they aren't popular on deviantart (like Dobson but actually decent at drawing). Somehow, Dobson ends up being worse because he's so deluded into thinking his work can compare to iconic Western cartoons.

FYI, this was also made in a mythical era where his fans actually came to his defense.

EDIT: I noticed that he hid this from public view (like the Lesbian Kick comic) so I tried googling it to see how you found it and found this:
http://tompreston.deviantart.com/journal/I-don-t-hate-Anime-and-Manga-262978892
You know, just because I am critical of Anime and Manga devotion, doesn't mean that I hate Anime and Manga. You're looking at a guy who owns around 32 hand painted cels from his favorite Anime shows and movies, has a row of Anime/Manga action figures standing perfectly in a row on my shelf in front of my computer, and has a rather extensive Anime DVD collection and two bookshelves of Manga.

My criticism of Anime/Manga is less about the material itself, and more the common practice of style mimicry by my fellow artists. And even then, it's more that I am critical of it being used WRONG than the fact they're using it at all. I don't mind looking at Anime and Manga artwork, and I don't think it's wrong for people to MAKE Anime and Manga inspired artwork.

But I DO think it's wrong for people to copy the big eye'd style without understanding what goes into creating it, or how to use it properly. Too often when we're young we copy what we see first, and since Anime and Manga are so pervasive right now, a lot of young artists start by drawing big eyes, invisible noses, sharp chins, crazy hair, awkward snout side views, etc...without knowing WHY they're doing it. And to make sure we're entirely clear here, it's not just Anime and Manga that we do this to. When I was a kid I copied Disney and Garfield cartoon styles because that is what I was exposed to.

That's why life and figure drawing are so important. By understanding the basic underpinnings and gestural makeup of your artwork, you can abstract that into BETTER stylized works of art. Learning observation doesn't mean you have to abandon drawing in a Anime/Manga style for drawing in a realistic style... It simply means that you understand how anatomy and perspective and shading all work towards crafting a more believable illustration. Even highly abstracted characters like the Bones or Mickey Mouse have a basic underlying "structure" for how they're drawn, after all.

This is, pretty much, the reason why I started the latest Tenko storyline. While Tenko does draw in an Anime/Manga inspired style, the purpose of the comic isn't to bash Anime/Manga but to allow Tenko the ability to grow as an artist and realize that gesture drawing and observation can help him IMPROVE his artwork. It is not advocating that you abandon drawing Anime/Manga. It's advocating you learn the basic building blocks of drawing... something ALL art teachers will tell you.

And the younger you learn this, the easier it will be for you later. It's generally very hard to un-learn bad habits the older you get, which is why I set the storyline for such a young artist.

Now... having said all that. I DO NOT want to have discussions about the SYAC comic here. I've said before that I am going to have a journal made up for when the storyline ends where I will accept all feedback for it, good or bad. This is not the time to provide the feedback for it so please don't. I'm merely trying to address concerns brought up by a number of people who seem to have a wrongly formed view of why I'm doing this storyline and where it's going.

If Dobson wasn't so deluded, I'd bet at this point he'd do a commission for some chicken nuggets.

I would happily buy some Dobson original art, so I might fondly remember his cow antics in years to come.

Sadly, he'd never sell to me, as I am among the trollish and the damned.

I could be generous and say he is just tiring to keep the next generation of artists from making the same mistakes he made, especially how he wasted his college years. But then I remember this Dobson we are talking about and that would mean he admitted he is wrong and his artwork is in desperate need of improvement. So the level of hypocrisy in his advise to young artist here is just mind-blowing to me.

The stereotypical gamer dudebro has three fingers on one hand. Naruto appears to be missing one tooth, but Dobson drew two flying in the air. Sailor Moon looks like a guy in a wig. The girl kicking Goku (who herself looks like a Dragonball fan character) has legs that are two different lengths. And Goku's tail looks like it was literally added moments before Dobson uploaded it. It's the only part of the image that isn't shaded and the lineart doesn't even match up with the rest of the character (save for some clothing folds on a leg, also probably last minute), let alone the rest of the picture.

I get the feeling that he knows his potential, but doesn't tap into it because he's either too lazy, or because he's doing this for the lulz at this point.

Either way, the final art is pretty shitty.
That's an intriguing idea. Maybe he subconciously doesn't try to unlock his full potential, so he has this vague idea that there's still this massive boost in art, that he could potentially achieve. But maybe he's afraid that it won't lead to the desired outcome, like his potential would still be lackluster.
Metaphorically speaking, Dobson is a kid that wants to buy a certain toy and has a piggy bank with an unknown amount of money inside. Now, instead of cracking that sucker open and looking how much money he's got at his disposal, he's afraid it might not be enough and he doesn't want to feel the disappointement, so instead, he opts to do nothing. Basically, the potential that he might be able to one day buy the toy is more appealing since he can avoid having to face reality: he might not be able to buy it.

That would at least explain the obvious lack of improvement in his arts. People have pointed out his lineworks suck and his way of coloring is pretty much the most idiotic way imaginable and yet he still refuses to do something about it.

Then again, maybe he's just an ignorant fool.

Why is he even an artist if he doesn't like being one? He seems to complain about being an artist rather than enjoying it
Dobson doesn't like art. He doesn't like making art.
Dobson likes doodling something and being praised for it.
You can practically see the semen stains on the paper.

Edit: Dobby warns greythetick about da trowls, when's that podcast coming out?
According to Dobson, everything that's bad in the world is the outcome of sexist right-wing trolls being assholes deliberately. Even when someone links a piece of artwork to you, to him, it's more likely it's a troll in disguise than an actual (possibly concerned) fan.
What a dunce.
As if beating children (Ash) wasn't terrible enough, I for some reason always get very annoyed when I see his shitty yellow Marsupilafield gnome. It's that fuckin huge nose, I guess.
It's just such a blatant, half-assed rip-off, both the design and the idea. Add in the usual Dobson-Strawman-Smug and you get the ultimate creature of annoyance.

Maybe he also has a fetish seeing Sailor Moon girls in pain ("Let's pop together," anyone?) and used bashing anime as an excuse just to draw it.

How old is he? 35? I can't imagine Tweeting incessantly about a video game, no matter how fun it is, on your business Twitter account.

You could always make a new account (Since I assume you are banned, which is quite funny considering he used an image you created of his bearsona on his DeviantArt for a while)

Anyway a bit off topic but this comic from another thread reminded me of Dobby (Thanks @Funnybone for posting it):

I guess Dobby is the personification of the male SJW!

I'm glad to see this guy has a thread. I followed him for a while on DA but unwatched him when he started posting stuff that was like 1/2 of a comic, and he would link the full art on his own webpage in the comments. He posted this spergy journal justifying this, saying he deserved the ad revenue for his work. I stopped watching him not because I disagreed entirely on this point, but because of the dickish way he was going about it... it's one thing to make a journal saying that if you want to see additional works or updates sooner that they'll be posted on the site first (or exclusively), but it's another thing to post them as half-pieces that make the viewer have to click out to see the punchline. That's just being a dick, and maybe if he were actually funny or talented I would have put up with it, but he wasn't.

Dobsy, you have no reason to complain here- Your shit's ripped off, you made fan art of a lot of anime (and anime-inspired) series/video games like Slayers, Splatoon, Pokemon and Legend of Korra and you're a terrible storyteller with no sense of humor whatsoever. On top of it all, your artwork is atrocious to where I think even Tim Buckley and Jay Naylor are laughing at you.

I dare you to find a job at any animation studio or hell, anywhere art related (or for other internet personalities) and see where that leads you.

I have seldom seen Dobs be so lazy and uninterested...Actually, that is lies. He is like this all the time.
