Dobson's a poor troll

Oh. Look at that. Andrew "Lesbian Kick" Dobson advocates randomly throwing homosexuality at media to "make it better".

I swear, he's becoming Stephen Abootman. "Well. What exactly would make you prefer this?" "More gays." ".... More gays?" "Yeah. You know. Those Internet gays." "Internet gays?"

I dunno why, but just reading this post along with that smug little bear beside it makes me want to violently strangle said bear.

Representation is fine and should be encouraged, but saying that there should be more gay characters "because they're gay" feels kinda... patronizing to the people who are legitimately homosexual. Instead of ostracizing them, it sounds like people who say this shit are treating them as some kind of spectacle.

In other words... Dobby, maybe you should use some of that sweet nonexistent Patron cred to hire a PR department, because honestly you should stop fucking talking.

Whaaaat? The heterosexual man whose comics once featured the "Lol. Sports fans are so gay u guys. They are all naked whipping each other with towels. So gay. Lol." trope is patronizing to homosexuals?

No. No way.

Because having pride in who you are as a person is only for non-white non-cis non-straight non-males, right Dobby?

You twat.

No, you see, cis people get the other 364 days. What, you haven't noticed the daily straight pride parades making their way up and down every major city street?

That's like saying Black History Month isn't kind of weird since "the other 11 months are celebrated as White History Months". It sounds clever to certain idiots.

"You know what needed more gay people? Schindler's List! Liam Neesen should have been totally gay for Jews and should have fucked a few and decided which ones he kept by how good they were in bed. Know what else needed more gay? 12 Angry Men! I always thought the 1997 version was really missing a scene of Jack Lemmon being sucked off by George C. Scott in the men's room!"

Those 'straight pride' tweets and the "add more homosexuals to every work in fiction" remark are amusing.
Dobson doesn't even care if they're actual characters with roles in said fiction, more like place holders.

Now I must jump on the Dobson parody art bandwagon.

I'm a mediocre artist, but I still had fun drawing it, and I cracked up when I put on the eyebrows

I don't see why Dobby is complaining as we have Inflation Prides every year.

You could, theoretically, improve media with a gay character or two but...

That whole thing about "writing characters like believable people" thing? Yeah, that goes double for LGBT ones. Of course, to people like Dobson it's lesbians first and actual personalities later.

Granted that's coming from someone with a fair amount of characters that are gay in some way or another (or portrayed as in terms of character that aren't mine) but that's more down to
"Oh hey, these two characters would be cute/fun together! Oh, they're both guys/both girls? Guess they're gay then."

First thing you should do when creating a character is write 'em like a cishet white guy and actually factor that other shit once you've actually got something compelling enough on it's own. "Lesbian kick" is not a three-dimensional personality.

As a Simpsons sperg, that Helen Lovejoy macro is heavily ironic considering several recent episodes. Namely one which, while it amounted to "Those wacky transwomen!" was still Helen taking a friend to get hormone shots in "Gorgeous Grandpa" and in "Sky Police" was all but stated to be bi ("Is that a woman at the door? Send her in!") and was implied to be transgender herself... though it doesn't fit in with flashback eps she appeared in but given continuity on the show... basically it's uncertain. In other words, the character Dobson is using as a homophobic straw-woman is shown to be ironically more tolerant than given credit for and possibly at least two points on the LGBT herself.

TL;DR, Dobson still can't even put up a half decent strawman, the thing he's known best for. Cue the Autistic ratings.:P

EDIT since we got an upadte while I was writing: I totally get an artist maybe wanting a break from a serious project maybe to shake off a block, try new things, brush up on tricky shit like posing and perspective and all that but... Dobby kinda promised more SYAC to people that for some reason pay him. If it's too much, quit Patreon.

Dobson has had a midnight train to a pity party of one:

In my humble view...

If he does his art merely for ass-pats and "reputation", he is an artist for the wrong reasons.

You silly man, Dobson! We do art for the love of it, and because we must!

He hasn't enjoyed drawing for years. He only does for the

mula.

Grow up, Dobby.

We do what we must because we can.

That said, I do get an attention-based motive for art. That is, in the sense that someone might want to create something that people could find endearing, nurture a little fandom of their own, tell a story and all that. I totally get that it can be downright crushing when you spend a good hour or more creating something and the only result is you maybe get a token like from that one guy that likes everything. Hell I go through that often, it's like trying to perform for an empty venue.

But despite being a nobody, Dobson doesn't have that problem. If anything on places like DA he gets far too much attention, I often end up seeing his stuff end up on DA's popular today results.

If anything the biggest problem for him is that people are discussing it, they're looking into his work even if critically, when he really just wants endless "you're the best!" comments. Meanwhile there's learning artists out there that'd drown a kitten for a good critique or redline.

It kinda makes me really sad to know he's not at least enjoying to draw. Even artists that enjoy drawing for attention, should have fun in making art itself.

Other than that, if he's really "unsure about his reputation" and "Still on shaky grounds" maybe learning a thing or two out of his mistakes would help against that.

Gay people are great as quirky upstairs neighbors in sitcoms! Because they're so gay!
uuugh, you just made me think of that stupid "i wish my kid was gay so we can go shopping" tumblr post.
so much for equality

this reminds me of a friend. who likes to draw. he would kill for critique. but instead the only people getting it, are morons who don't want it.
the internet makes you stupid

honestly, the man needs to just step back and look at everything. he'll be happier once he:
stops looking for flaws outside of himself
starts looking for flaws inside himself
i know this is sappy shit. but i know from experience, being able to fix something about yourself or just letting shit go, makes you feel so much better in the long run, and can let you grow artistically.
