Opinion American Airlines policy allowing BLM pins faces backlash from workers

Article (Archived)

There’s pin-demonium brewing at American Airlines. Top brass at the nation’s largest commercial jet carrier is facing turbulence from within after it announced that flight attendants are now allowed to wear Black Lives Matter pins on their uniforms while on duty. The move has irked some of American’s white New York staffers, including those who have spouses or relatives who are cops — because they consider the BLM movement divisive and anti-police, saying it promotes or condones violence.

“I take offense to this,” one veteran flight attendant said in an email to airline management obtained by The Post. “Serious offense. My husband is a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), as was my deceased father and as far as I’m concerned ALL LIVES MATTER.”

“I am completely disgusted at the fact that we can’t show support for our GOD, our COUNTRY, our LEOs but when it comes to BLM organization (which is controversial in itself), American Airlines says that’s obviously different,” she wrote. “And we can. How is that right? Well, I don’t feel included.”

Another flight attendant who asked to be identified only as John said staffers who refuse to wear the pin will now “be ostracized and labeled as racist,” and described BLM as “a terrorist organization that promotes violence to further their agenda.”

“If this pin is sanctioned I will wear my NYPD pin supporting the police department,” he said.

A top official at the airline defended the decision, saying she had been “taken aback” by “widespread” complaints from black AA workers about “implicit bias and direct racism from customers and other team members.”

"American is truly committed to having an inclusive culture that is welcoming to all and a reflection of our country and world,” Jill Surked, the airline’s senior vice president for flight services said in an email response to ticked off workers.

“One symbolic way to show our support is through a uniform pin,” she said. “We are working with our Black Professional Network on designing a specific pin that may be worn with the uniform. In the interim until this pin is produced, to recognize the significance of this moment in history, we are allowing people to wear a Black Lives Matter Pin.”

In a statement to The Post Sunday, the airline said the company has employee “resource groups” working on several pin designs for various causes, including charitable groups that include UNICEF and others.

“Our Christian, veterans and LGBTQ groups, for example, have developed their own pin that can be worn as part of the uniform,” the statement said.

American said it views the BLM pin push “not as a political cause but as a universal cause about humanity and equality. Fundamentally, Black Lives Matter is an expression of equality.”

“It doesn’t mean other lives don’t matter, rather that in our society black lives should matter and be valued the same as others. That’s not political.”

But angry airline employees accused American of jumping on the Black Live Matter bandwagon to keep up with rival Delta Airlines, which reportedly has designed its own BLM pin for its flight attendants to wear.

AA recently announced it was laying off 19,000 workers because of the coronavirus-fueled recession that crippled the travel business. BLM protests have been held across the country since the May 25 police custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and subsequent incidents of black people killed or injured in clashes with police. Floyd died after a white police officer had his knee on Floyd’s back for eight minutes.

good. let the woke-signaling corporate tards push this thing to the nth degree and start pissing off regular people.

I find it very, very strange that - worldwide - even in countries without the nigger virus, BLM is being pushed. It makes no sense.
So, how are Antifa/BLM/etc threatening these corps? Because it's very obvious there is something going on.
They pushing it hard in Japan, a very uber homogeneous society. Britain being completely cucked by BLM under a government that just managed to get a hard brexit has completely surprsied me though. They also tried having BLM in some slavic countries like Lithuania, where is there like a total of 10 niggers probably in that country.

Its either the globohomo at work or attempts to introduce diversity in this places to weaken the nation or try to see how does white guilt work in places that don't have any of it. Nationalism is hated by globalist elites and its clear they financing BLM.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about and I don't think it's purely to do with physical plans.
In the early days of the Coronavirus, there was a lot of extra activity to do with hacking of vital government systems in multiple Asia/Pacific countries.

Some Japanese politicians and political pundits espoused the opinion that there was some ulterior threat. In Australia, that's been the mumblings behind the scenes. Basically - keep your country shut down until x time or ___.
The blank being a likely credible threat, which anecdotally, seems to be more of a financial/hacking event rather than a physical one.

Which ties into the beliefs of Antifa/Anarchist hackers and the whole ECD ideology, as well as the reality that governments were under severe threat as mentioned above.

A theory I've seen, which I believe to be more likely than not, is that there is a credible threat related to government, corporate and financial electronic systems was levied by some collective associated with Antifa/Anarchists etc.
It makes sense in light of the confirmed reports of governments being under electronic attack and the seeming "ranson" big corps are willing to pay in light of all this, as well as governments response to the pandemic in the US re: prison releases as a "covid" response.

Taking down those electronic systems would throw the entire world into complete chaos and war beyond imagination.

The Chinese have avoided all the BLM shit and probably are funding Trump's enemies. Russia has been quiet the whole time but they hate Soros and tired of all the commie shit.

They tried it here few times Finland, did not fly. Don't get me wrong, many leftist especially in Helsinki are very PC about race but BLM has never gotten much foothold here. First time I remember an american speaker awkwardly tried to get fins riled up about police violence especially shootings but he had to admit fast it wasn't an issue to us. At the time in 10 years police has shot 122 times, killing 7 people so fins were not worried. Latest I can think was this spring around the time summer vacation started. Some teenagers of foreign background got in fight with the police after partying in park, yelling something about BLM and trying cause damage to police car. Everyone including other young black and brown kids that got interviewed said those were just drunken assholes that trying to be cool by doing stuff they saw on the internet. They said that finnish police is fine and there is no reason to fight them. Usually everything is sorted by talking or them taking you home so why are being difficult over something happening in US?

Well, they're doing better than UAL YTD, but in the past 3 months (since the brief June recovery) they're the worst performer by far. Keep fuckin' that chicken!

ed: even fucking Air Canada, although down 63% for the year and probably heading into another bankruptcy like in 2003, has outperformed AAL. What the hell have they been doing this quarter?

When will corporations and sports leagues finally get the message that political buttons, shirts, signs, etc. are not welcome, no matter what the message is?

Will they allow workers to wear MAGA hats? Of course not. This fascist BLM takeover of all public spaces is really becoming fucking annoying, and it needs to stop. Even black people are growing sick of it.
Because the work crowd will tear them an new asshole for not bending the knee.

Don't y'all remember what went down in Louisville?

Really? Why? Our government is totally fine with the woke agenda. Both sides are. Labour and conservative are functionally no different from each other when you get down to their basic principles and their actions. They are both composed - on the leadership and activist level - of middle class tossers that disdain the working class. No one in charge wanted a hard brexit; no one in charge wanted a Brexit at all. They are all at the end of the day just two mildly different flavours of liberal, globalist, international capitalist consumers. They'll happily sell the idea of conservatism, but under the 'conservatives' we've seen record immigration, a push to have more non european immigrants (namely African/Indian.), the legalising of gay marriage, the pushing of LGBT education programs into schools, and an overall jerk of the nations services into the 'woke'.

Neither labour or conservatives stand for anything more than liberalism and globalism. They just justify it in two different ways. British democracy has nothing to do with Britain, it - like American, or French, or German - is monetary democracy; it's based in Wall Street, and Singapore, and the London financial zone. If the working class gets uppity at their shitty government and their policies then toss them a few scraps so they shut up and carry on replacing them with a new working class overseas. If the middle classes object then do the same to them. Conservatives will call it a need for labour and labour will call it a need for compassion but the end result is the exact same. Neither side gives a fuck and will happily jump onto any amusing little issue that foreigns will get pissed about in our countries; it won't ever have an affect on them, and they will never be called out for it so why not?

The only thing they will ever be called out on is being too 'unwoke' by the media, and at the end of the day our politicians care about their money, their public image and their pension. Unless it affects one of the three their won't give a fuck.

Translation: Your tax dollars are more than likely going to fund these pins.

Damn, Trump has this election in the fucking bag. I wasn't certain before, but when people are ready to say "fuck Biden and my job" over pins, it's pretty clear.

It strikes me as, counter-productive, to say the least, that you should risk anything that might spark a heated political debate in a crowd of people sealed inside an inescapable pressurized can at 30,000 feet above the ground for 2 hours.... even if the flight deck is locked as a precaution.

Japanese media is quite popular throughout the world, which is why China and the political left turn their envious eyes upon it.

Still, was quite fun seeing every left winger trying their damndest to get us to care. And then melting down into racially charged tirades when they failed.

Were these left wingers the white guilt woketards or the left in Japan?

Also is that commie killer guy with the sword stab a hero in Japan for stopping communism?

And that's just with normal people. Shaniqua and LaDarius are going to want the flight attendant to give them a bunch of free stuff because black lives matter, and they won't take "Its against airline policy" for an answer.

White guilt woketard with the occasional sympathizer.

Them trying to get Japan to care about Floyd and the BLM movement is much like, say, trying to get Americans to care about a stabbing in Sweden. Some here might show sympathy, some might use it to criticize some aspect of the country, and everyone will have a quip, but it will ultimately fade away from people's consciousness. No one knows the people involved in the story, any cultural context is lost on the audience, and it is not the same country. Trying to force people to care about, to shame them for not caring about, a race they have no horse in will only cause pushback.

Furthermore, the "woketards," for all their talk of open-mindedness, have very little understanding that other cultures have different priorities from them. Unlike in, say, Britain, woke politics does not have a strong foothold in Japan. White guilt is yet another silly western idea and no kinship is felt to other "people of color." Attempting to shame Japan on those lines does not lead us to devolve into blubbering piles of apologies, it just alienates us because, well, we have been insulted.

Here's the thing, I'm fine with companies allowing workers to wear BLM merch. That way, we know who to avoid.
