I think this Patreon business is what bothers me more than anything else about him (everything else is a close second combined, but hear me out). I would kill to have even half as many fans as him who would like to support me and my art. I would love to have people who dote on my work, people to draw special goodies for, people to share fun facts about my characters with.

Sure I'm primarily a fanartist but I tend to give attention to characters that get so little that half the time it does feel like they're my own, y'know?

I think that's what triggers the sperg in me about this guy, he's practically had a following handed to him on a silver platter but he just pisses it away, treats fans like crap and never does anything. That kinda following could be going to someone actually deserving of it. But nope, shitty strawmen and half-assing all the way!

Maybe he should recalibrate the goals. For 50 dollars a month, he'll whine about video games and homophobia. For 5000 dollars a week, he'll whine about the paradox of free will in a physically deterministic universe, or the inability to reconcile quantum foam theory with the existence of quasars.

I definitely know how you guys feel. As an artist one of the coolest things you can do besides drawing really awesome stuff is to gain followers and have people fall in love with your artwork. I find it amazing that people will want to know more about your art and your characters even if its simple sketches of them. I just find it cool if you create a fandom all by yourself.

And here Dobson just doesnt care about his fans anymore, or did he ever care? He has people who stuck by him for years and he couldnt do so much as to say thank you to those loyal fans.

Sigh, he's never going to improve and years will pass by and nothing will ever change. He will be stuck in a dead end job, drawing whenever he feels like instead of drawing for fun.l, and most likely never reaching past a 100$ on his pateron. Sigh.

It also bothers me that he litterally uses his twitter as some personal diary. Like seriously? Its okay if he was a teen, but he's in his thirties! It just feels weird reading about his updates on every single thing. About the games he plays and the political ideas he has.

Each time I read more about Dobson, I feel more motivated to do the best I can in my artworks and hope one day I can have my own followers of some sort.

It may be a bit off-topic, but since the comic was mentioned a few times on the thread here; I just checked Kickstarter and found out that Crtl-Alt-Delete is launching a kickstarter to publish all of their comics that spanned for 10 years. It's over 1000 pgs in comic strips and it going to be all contain in 3 giant books.

I feel like mentioning this, because despite the fact that CAD is no longer relevant in terms of webcomics, they still have a strong and loyal dedicated followers who are willing to diss out money to buy the books. The kickstarter just launched but their already amassed up to over 300k, when they only needed 150k.

I just feel that Dobson here is trying (and failing miserably) to get past 100 dollars for his pateron, while his fellow companions are already making a whole ton of money by just launching a kickstarter or by selling merchandises. It's quite sad seeing that Dobson will continue to struggle as the years pass by while his peers continue to make gigantic strides in their works. I'm pretty sure if Dobson ever tries to do a kickstarter for his work he won't ever reach the goal CAD did in just a mere day.

oh god, PATTY. the old comic of his is just plain awful; straight(?) men should not be allowed to write lesbian stories if they're not gonna even attempt to understand women and their attraction to each other. this whole comic feels like a cop out of HEY LOOK I'M NOT HOMOPHOBIC!!!1! while also fetishizing young lesbians (they're in highschool).. also patty, as a character, is completely unlikeable and a terrible protagonist, i never rooted for her the entire comic. the girl with the skull earrings deserved better than a whiny, entitled brat. i forget where i read patty originally or else i would share it bc GOOD LORD... the story is mediocre at best, and the art is SO unfinished it's hard to tell what's happening.. i remember thinking, oh, dobson can't STILL be this lazy and weird about lesbians! when no. no it has just gotten worse... oh dobson...

I was there when some dude legit bought it and read it on a stream. Apparently the mum's reason for not liking lesbians is because her best friend was a lesbian and they got in a fight or something. Not for any perceived religious reasons like most people who hate da homos

And I can actually pull this little piece of info: The Wii did indeed sell more units than its competition, at 100 million v. 80 million for both the 360 and the PS3. But there was a difference, at least last I checked:

The Wii sold notably less games per unit as the downside. The other two consoles had more games sold for their system than their rival, since the buyers for those consoles were more into having a wider library.
