From someone who is just watching GamerGate from afar, the claims of actual crimes (especially the magnitude) coming from either side seems really far fetched. I did searches of "Anita Sarkeesian Fraud" and "Sarah Nyberg pedophilia" and all I find are articles that are either clearly pro-GG or anti-GG. I would love to be able to decouple ideology and personal actions, but all the sources of "information" just seem to be set in two very different realities where the pasts of ideological opponents are fair game.
I suppose this frustration with only having the voices of extremists being heard furthers your point. No barrage of citations is going to convince a ideologically committed Anti-GG SJW that some of their spokespeople participate more to satisfy some martyr complex. On the same token, no barrage of citations is going to convince an ideologically committed Pro-GG that some of their spokespeople are more or less reactionaries mindlessly lashing out at those who appear to be a threat to gamer culture.
I would like to see the citations in the hope that I can find out what the heck is actually happening without some extremist slant distorting or whitewashing facts.

My theory is that the egg is supposed to symbolize online harassment. People who harass others on twitter often do it through throwaway accounts rather than their actual accounts. Since an image of an egg is the default avatar on twitter, harassment throwaway accounts often have egg avatars, and I even recall one person calling the egg image "the new face of harassment" or something along those lines.

You, however, I will cheerfully provide citations for:
1. Anita Sarkeesian kickstarted Tropes vs. Women substantially higher than her initial bid for it, and likely will never finish it.
It has been over two and a half years.
The series is less than half-complete.
Ignoring for a moment that Tropes Vs. Women was billed as a documentary series and not an overglorified set of of teleseminars, ignoring that she's nowhere near close to her kickstarted goal (which from a legal standpoint, she must complete in order for Kickstarter to not attempt to seek redress for the backers). It's analyzing her actual videos, however, that problems start to arise.
Of these videos, Anita Sarkeesian openly stole content from other Youtubers, using it without permission. It's especially noticable because many of the stolen screen-grabs and clips have the same life totals, scores, or positioning. In other words, it's become blatantly apparent that she has not played any of the games she claims to have done so, especially for ones like the Hitman example from her own video series where the game undermines her point. She also used artwork snagged from various artists for it, leading to lengthy attempts by the original content creators to get credit for the content that FemFreq stole for use of it. Most of her "research" done is stolen from TVTropes and Wikipedia.
In other words, there is no evidence for where the $150K Sarkeesian got for this little video series (which is now approaching 3 years late) went, considering how completely slipshod the actual production values of Tropes vs Women are. Many, if not all of the points she makes, especially about there being a connection between violence and sexism and video games have been disproven by multiple scientific studies which have been extensively peer reviewed.
2. Anita Sarkeesian has provably been involved with fraud.
Mike Cernovich, Eron Gjoni's original Lawyer, is practically a lolcow in and of himself, but he does raise salient points about the law, and nowhere is this as apparent as FemFreq's attempt to milk threats for cash. For the uninitiated, Anita (and the rest of FemFreq, but Anita mostly since she's their mouthpiece) has been recieving death threats, or so she claims. Many of these have been either false-flaggers or the likes of Celebrinando journalist Mateus Sousa, whose bullshit was so obvious that even Kotaku covered it.
One small problem, though: Anita's been fundraising off these threats.
You may not be aware, but this is against the law in the United States. In fact, the law's been pretty up-front about cracking down on this shit. In NY, for example, a woman was sent to jail for over eight months for fundraising in this fashion. Sarkeesian’s innocence for such fraud would rest upon the death threats she received being genuine, but unfortunately, we know that Sarkeesian never contacted the authorities about the threats she claimed to have recieved. Milo Yiannopolis committed a similar investigation, which came to identical results that furthermore indicated she never called the police. Which means that posts like this, in which she claimed to have done so, are false:
The mainstream press has been openly complicit with allowing Anita to do this, so don't expect anything to happen to her anytime soon. You will notice, however, that Femfreq has stopped making posts like these.
3. Laurelai Bailey is a Rapist
A lengthy post from one of her victims details this horror in excrutiating detail.
This information is already along the lines of what Encyclopedia Dramatica has recorded about her for years. Even Sophia Banks, a notorious Anti-GG SJW widely regarded as a trangendered Geordie Tait, has legitimized the veracity of claims against Laurelai. She's a deeply disturbing individual with a litany of similar accusations under her belt.

It really seems like to me this whole gamergate clusterfuck is both sides trying to dig up dirt on each other's spokespeople rather than actually debating any of the issues that either side raises. Its a pretty old political strategy that goes like this: "Nevermind that my opponent may be right on this issue, he cheated on his wife!"

Agreed. One of the sides seems very interested in debating while the other one doesn't though, so I wouldn't say it's anyone's "fault" that it ended up this way, but certainly the whole thing would be much more civil if there were more who wanted to actually work through the issues at hand.

It's really pathetic that Rani and Chloe felt that their lives were so bankrupt of any meaning and that they felt like they weren't getting the attention they feel they're entitled to that they had to start dressing like girls to get attention. Nothing I've seen about them tells me they have genuine gender dysphoria or are true transgender. Everything points to them doing it to be professional victims for attention and profit. Its sad that they feel like dressing up in women's clothing, poorly I might add, was the only way they could eek out any kind of success and relevance in life so they can cry on Twitter, Tumble, and their blogs about "MUH OPPRESSIONS! MUH SOGGY KNEES!" I'd feel bad for them if it weren't so damn hilarious to see them fail this hard.

Some things stuck out to me in each of the cases. Anyone can feel free to elaborate.
1. Someone with a master’s degree should really be so much tighter on their methodology. It seems that Anita makes some very basic errors in her videos. If you are to tackle a subject for an academic presentation, it is absolutely important that you are voracious about the previous literature in the subject and build upon it (or point out a weakness of a previous piece and how you will improve on it). As Jamais correctly pointed out, there is tons of literature about the lack of relation between gaming and antisocial behavior. Anita’s videos are a classic example of the social science maxim “correlation does not mean causation.” The sexist tropes she points out are more likely a reflection of society (as art tends to be) rather than proscriptive brainwashing. I will now withhold the temptation to sperg about all the other interacting factors which greatly complicates any simplistic and bleak arguments about gendered indoctrination.
I have always been a strong believer in having an air tight methodology. I think it is awesome if someone is inspired to study society through their experiences in the world as a woman, non-white, transgender person, etc. However, Anita’s caught contradictions in her love of gaming really makes her come across as disingenuous and adds credence to any conspiracy theories.
2. The only thing I found definitive proof for was that Anita did not contact the authorities (I assume she was based in San Francisco at the time). I would like to see proof that threat was a false flag (IP addresses? Connections to Sarkeesian supporters?) as it seems to be the necessary smoking gun to demonstrate that Anita was committing fraud. Just because she did not contact authorities does not necessarily mean that the threats were staged.
3. What a horrible piece of shit Laurelai Bailey is. Wonder why the Anti-GG SJW folk tell Laurelai to go fuck himself (probably a softball question there)…
4. I remember reading Sarah Nyberg’s article about her experience with trolls and bullies online that she associates with GamerGate. Being an avid reader of ED, I do know how a lot of little things can be blown up for articles for the site.
I have heard of some self-aware pedophiles who recognize their attraction to pre-pubescent children as awful and go to extreme measures to not offend (stay away from any place near children, castration). Sarah first came across like one of these people (also one who made arguments about adolescence being the age of consent, which a decent argument could be made).
However, reading this line, directly quoted from her and not distorted or blown out of proportion by those dang dirty trolls, that really is damning:

And yes, a child most certainly cannot consent...that line sounds so rapey. Perchance it is a good thing that Sarah has gone the tranny route…chemical and/or physical castration for the good of society.
In short: One of her henchmen should be put in Jail (Laurelai), another of her henchmen will probably end up in jail (Sarah), and Carmen Sandiego (Anita) will get away since (thus far) there isn't the loot to get the warrant.

Two points I have to make:
1. People like Sarkeesian, Wu and so forth never go to the police because one way or another there is no real threat. The threats are usually fake, being made by themselves or a friend to make it look like they are real victims and to further their narrative to manipulate their followers into giving them sympathy and support. Brianna Wu is a glowing example of someone who make fake threats towards themselves for attention. If they go to the police then their manipulative deeds might get discovered and they run the risk of losing supporters, both political and financial, and getting arrested for filing fake police reports and wasting valuable police resources.
2. Pedophiles don't need to have genitalia to be sexual predators. There are documented cases of pedophiles undergoing castration who still wind up molesting children

1. Those commonalities make it more likely that they do fabricate narratives. However, it isn't the smoking gun needed to conclusively prove that this specific instance involving Sarkeesian was a false flag.
2. I have heard that as well. From the remnants I have heard about child predators, castration is hardly an all out cure and sometimes completely ineffective. In that vein, the argument for Sarah undergoing castration was somewhat facetious since she claims to be transgender.

When you take into account that Sarkeesian is most likely a sock puppet for Johnny McIntosh, I wouldn't be surprised if she did little to no research for "her" work. True to the complaint that feminists have about men not taking feminism seriously unless another man is telling men the same argument, McIntosh, aware of his horrible white cishet privilege, yet full of ideas about feminism in video games, found the perfect mouth piece for feminists to take him seriously, in Saint Anita.
