CN Hong Kong Garden Takeaway (Megathread) - Time to kill some fuckin' ugly reds

Well this seems to be a long story with no immediate end, so let's talk about the pro-democracy protests in the city state and the resulting ChiCom crackdown here.

U.S. senators seek to sanction Chinese officials over Hong Kong

Republican and Democratic U.S. senators said on Thursday they would introduce legislation to impose sanctions on Chinese officials for violating Hong Kong's independence, after Beijing moved to impose a new security law on the former British colony.

The bill, to be introduced by Republican Senator Pat Toomey and Democrat Chris Van Hollen, would also impose secondary sanctions on banks that do business with entities found to violate the law guaranteeing Hong Kong's autonomy.

A Chinese official said on Thursday that China is set to impose new national security legislation on Hong Kong after last year's pro-democracy unrest, drawing a warning from President Donald Trump that Washington would react "very strongly."

"This bipartisan legislation will impose serious penalties on those working to strip Hong Kong of its autonomy," Van Hollen said in a statement.

Members of Congress from both parties have been taking a more aggressive tone on China as President Donald Trump has ramped up a war of words with Beijing over responsibility for the global coronavirus pandemic.

So after Beijing has accepted that every Hong Konger is fully aware that the pro-PRC lawmakers are nothing but Beijing puppets, and the pretense otherwise is so lame and embarrassing that it does more harm than good to their cause, Xi has just decided to take off the mask that wasn't fooling anyone. And of course thanks to the now-normalised madness of the international response to the Chinese Virus, the cops can bust protester heads and say it's for the sake of public health.

How would this affect independence?

There's not a huge amount we can do directly but doing absolutely nothing isn't just immoral, it's against our national interests. If anything we should try to get something useful out of it ourselves like open asylum for any Hong Kongers lucky enough to get here.

And if we do that and get lucky, we might get Pakis and Africans hilariously giving themselves slitty eyes with sellotape and claiming they're asylum seekers from Hong Kong

Answering with nothing is only refusing to answer the question, hit me something.
Could a coup work?
That sounds like the start to a long a bloody conflict that no one on earth wants to see. The thing about China is that as a totalitarian government that has brainwashed generations of their citizens to never question their decisions, China is capable of anything.

Honestly I'm hoping that China collapses on its own before we shit starts to ramp up. With the Three-Gorges dam close to breaking, their shredded economy, their Belt and Road initiative not giving the returns they expected, plus the Rona and the shady nature of its origin, there are a lot of things that can go wrong for them.

Maybe if something was done with Tibet or Xinjiang. But when nothing was done what chance was there for Hong Kong? I thought the extremist Islamic fighters would do something when the Uyghurs were and still are getting harsh treatment by China, but that hasn’t happened and Iran and Saudi Arabia continue trading and dealing with China.

Well okay, what do mainlanders know about Hong Kong?

Its because of those extremist Islamic fighters that Uyghurs are getting the belt in the first place.

That they're subhumans brainwashed by the West into hating China, the only true nation, and are degenerate, weak, and stupid, but also infinitely cunning and perfidious and must be fully absorbed into China for their own good and to prevent Hong Kong from destroying China and allowing civilization to collapse. Anything else, or questioning the contradictions in the above gets your social credit tanked and your shit thrown out on the street.
The thing that must be understood is that China is totalitarian. Authoritarian governments like India or much of Europe merely have a highly-centralized government that allows federal power to be exerted quickly and little regional/town-level autonomy. Totalitarians exert their power well beyond the government apparatus and attempt to control what the people say, do, and think to align with whatever the Party wants them to say, do, or think.

Has there ever been ways to infiltrate restricted information toward China?

Has there ever been ways to infiltrate restricted information toward China?
There are, but the average citizen of China proper doesn't actually care. Most of them know, on a certain level, that what the Party says is the truth isn't what's actually happening. They also understand that the party can destroy their entire lives in a way Western "cancel culture" can only dream of the second they step out of line on literally anything. China's sentenced 15-year olds to multiple decades in prison for writing smutty fanfic.

There's a contemporary story from the martial arts world that illustrates the price of even the most superficial rebellion against the Chinese Communist Party. There's a mixed martial artist, named Xu Xiaodong. He loves martial arts, and China's history with it. One day, he's watching the TV, and a program about them comes on. It claims that Tai Chi masters can defeat ten men at once and stop a man's heart with a single touch. This and many other outrageous claims about Chinese martial arts are "believed" by many people in China and masters of the schools frequently claim such things. So, Xu began challenging Tai Chi masters- when one finally accepted, Xu handily defeated him in 20 seconds.
In response, the Chinese government censured him for "disparaging Chinese culture" and "promoting Western values". His family received death threats. Xu was prevented from fighting other Tai Chi masters and repeatedly jailed. He was first forbidden from organizing tournaments in his gym, then from competing in tournaments at all. The gym he trained at claimed they never trained him and denounced him as an enemy of the Chinese people and martial arts. He would be harassed virtually everywhere he went by martial artists challenging him and even punching him on camera in broad daylight- if Xu did anything to defend himself, he would be arrested and jailed again for assaulting the martial artists.
Xu continued to denounce what he saw as fraud in the world of martial arts. Upon critiquing a famed Tai Chi master, he was censured, had his social media deleted, was ordered to pay US$60,000 in damages and to spend an hour a day for the next seven days apologizing and denouncing himself as a fraud and an enemy of China and martial arts on social media. His social credit score was lowered to the point he could no longer rent or own any place to live or use any form of public transport. His own family denounced him and disowned him. The Chinese government began to allow him to fight again: but only if he wore Chinese clown makeup, had his tattoos covered up, and fought under a pseudonym that would best translate as "stupid obese midget". Xu accepted these terms, and once again challenged a master he viewed as a fraud.
Two days before the fight was to begin, the location of the venue was changed to a location thousands of miles away from where it was supposed to be fought- most likely in the hopes that Xu would not be able to arrive in time and would thus forfeit the match. Xu traveled for 36 straight hours to reach the new venue, and had to sleep in a locker room for a few hours before the fight.
When the fight actually took place, Xu, despite clearly being weak on his feet, dominated the master, unleashing the full breadth and depth of his MMA background against his opponent. After 3 minutes, with his opponent lying near-unconscious on the ground without having laid a single meaningful blow, the fight was called.... and declared a draw. Xu was decried as having cheated, and the match was later totally invalidated to preserve the master's "undefeated" score. The only reason he hasn't "vanished" is because he hasn't said anything directly critical of the government and has essentially been turned into an unperson.

And the above is over something that, while a minor point of pride culturally, isn't politically-meaningful in China.
