why does he add those godforsaken action lines on every drawing DAMN they are ugly!! STOP DOING THAT!!

a side note i DETEST how he draws asami and korra. it's just. so awful. he draws them so badly i can't think of words to describe it; they look very uncanny valley. please stop drawing korrasami dobson. you clearly do not understand how to draw women attractive or at least not like weird aliens.

He can't even make fun of Byzantine art of something, where anatomy actuallywas questionable. Is he seriously implying he can do better than the people who gave Western art a new life?

Need dope, will pay bills.

I think his real problem here is that every time he pays bills, he's reminded that his Patreon money just won't cut it and he lacks the relative talent (and ability to not be a raging dickwad to thus acquire more pledgers) and it makes him feel sad. Boo hoo, Dobberino. Boo hoo.

Did he ever go to high school? I was always taught that the Renaissance abandoned idealized portraits of people in favor of more realistic and humanist depictions, including a comprehensive grasp of anatomy. Presumably he didn't pay any attention because cartoonists don't need any subjects except art, obvs.

But yeah, using them logic he probably thinks his Brentalfloss pastiche of The Creation of Adam is better than Michaelangelo's actual original painting.

It's not about impression. It's about knowing the history of the significance of the anatomy of Renaissance era part, especially art commissioned by the Church or patrons who had affiliations with the Church. Any artist who went to a basic art program probably took an Art History course, especially if they are going into animation.

I have absolutely no idea what he keeps doing with Asami's eyes. She looks stoned as fuck.

For sake of context:

"The Holy Family" c. 1528 by Jan Cornelisz Vermeyen

It's important to know that the Renaissance was a period of time where the art world was getting its collective shit together over three-four centuries.
It didn't happen over night; for instance linear perspective looked really weird in the beginning (check out those tiny doors top right). It can still be weird if used improperly - links to 10-typical-perspective errors. We're not even going to get into the reformation, but damn dawg it was quite the development. :geek:

Of a lighter note even good artists at places like Pixar struggle with babies this is nothing unusual. Artists have been spitting out weird little freaky babies since the dawn of time. I'm not kidding among artists this is an absurdly common complaint: "How do i make it look cute, how do i not make it look dead? Woe is me-!" What's your deal Dobson? Discriminating against the buff king of kings! I can't wait to see what a pro Dobson is at drawing babies. ;)

Unrelated but a thing found when writing this:

As far as possessed Korra and her dame:

Dobson stop denying that you watch anime and stop taking your anatomy from Shaft. You gonna have a bad time.

I wouldn't fully say that myself. Mainly because art is more than just portrait works and painting. When I think of art throughout the ages, I don't think of just paintings, but of architecture, sculpting, and even calligraphy, which as a whole did advance and shift around quite a bit. I will agree and note though that this was the period where the mathematically defined formatting you'd see in classical pieces really comes back in the fore for Europe at this point though.

This a thousand times. It took a long while for artists to properly figure out an infant's proportions. Part of it was due to the anatomy they often studied, as infant corpses and the like were... not easily attained, moreso than other corpses. Doesn't help that the live ones tend to be quite squirmy and fussy. So they'd usually just take what was pretty well known, adult proportions, and the results were you usually get midget men when this happens.

Either way, Dobbo poo-pooing people who actually trained for years under a master of the craft when he can't even bother to try shading right is really indicative of his arrogance and preference to sob into a tub of lard all day.

..............................Jesus fucking Christ.
God. Fucking. Damn. It. What a little cunt.

A) Yes, you fucking would, cause you have massive entitelment issues that only barely manage to outgrow your monetary issues.
B) "Oh gee, it's blooooood moneeeeeeeh sadface-emoticon". Just no. It's a guy standing up to himself (something Dobby evidently never did) and then doing the unthinkable of actually doing something that would actually help genuine people in the real world, not some tumblr-bitch that stirrs up drama on twitter over nonissues to get Patreon dosh from Beta whiteknights. So in short: A man that behaves like an adult (which is infathimable to Dobson) and then actually does something to improve someone's life.
I would love to see Dobson writing a paragraph of text about why that organization should reject the payment... it would be choke full with tumblr lingo and "opinion officially approved by the feminist-hivemind"-thoughts.
"You see, they shouldn't take the money, cause it was made using an image of a fictional woman that showed her in a silly sexy pose and my stupid kind didn't get the joke, so now we assume it's an expression of the rape culture and also it discriminates Wu-senpai."

Ok, at this point, he's just fucking with me...
I seriously hope he's joking, but knowing Dobson, he's smugly sitting in front of his Mac, eating Nutella with a spoon and reading people's outrage* over his controversial** views.

So if I'm getting this right:
- A guy who's drawn cheescake (and is good at that, pretty funny too, leagues above Dobbers in literally every way) made a donation to a women's shelter.
- Dobbers in his impotent rage is acting as if the shelter is taking donations from fucking Agent 47 or the Joker.
That about right?

A problem with the lesbians pic on the last page is that he cannot draw sultry 'come hither' looks. And the other girl is too wide-eyed, like she has no eyelids.
Another thing that bothers me with his lesbian fetish is that he always seems to implicate that one girl is "bottoming" for the other. Anyone wanna bet he has a mammoth collection of lez-only porno on his hard drive? Dobson really gives off this "closeted sexist" vibe.

When you look at Dobson's cartoony art, you soon realize he's trying to go for a certain style and moreso, he's thinking his skills for art don't have to exceed that particular style. Hence, we get the balloon-sausage-hybrids that Dobson considers to be fingers and the unshapely malformed lumps he thinks are hands. It's also the source of his bad understanding of anatomy in general. He has stated mutliple times that he thinks his style is sufficient and since he's drawing comics, he doesn't need to be able to do much more.
The fact he needs to understand anatomy first and has to be able to draw really well with details in order to reduce his style flies right above his head. He simply doesn't get that in order to do comic/cartoon you need to have your basics down as well - this is completely alien to him, it seems. On the contrary, doing comics seems to be his go-to excuse for actually NOT getting down the basics of anatomy since "they don't matter anyway" or something and thus everything he draws looks sloppy - even down to the linework!
For how long have people made fun of how Dobearson draws hands? The better part of a decade? At some point, he could have just sat down and practiced instead of sulking and whining about how he doesn't need to be able to draw a hand if he's going for ... well... this 'style'. In order to stylize a hand minimalistically you have to be able to draw it realistically first, otherwise, you will always be bound to use crutches.
It's part of the reason why everything Dobson draws looks so bland, he simply lacks the artistic background to actually sit down and create a unique, interesting style by reducing it from semi-realistic to cartoony. That's why his creations have all the appeal of a very generic "Draw your own Comics!" guideline book and all his works suffer from easily avoidable 'beginner's mistakes'.

And this guy wants to lecture the internet by and large about his stance on renaissance-era anatomy and perspective? :story:
of course there's still artists that only excel at rather basic styles, but they deligently practice those in order to improve themselves... and these styles usually are visually pleasing, minimalistic but still expressive and above all: unique.

Other than the usual Failbear magic, I love how Asami has what seems to be an expression of mild disgust that's barely covered up by the fakest of all fake smiles. If I didn't know any better I'd think this is a piece of homophobic propaganda done by some bigoted neckbeard depicting a poor cis white woman being forced into a lesbian relationship with some Inuitkin translatinx in hopes of scoring some PC points. Hell, I'd be still right about the "bigoted neckbeard" part.
