Also with them at that point having been kissless nerd virigins well past the societally accepted sell by date, and "Well obviously dating never worked out because I was actually a woman; obviously I never got a girlfriend because I was too busy being oppressed by the Assigned-at-birth gender binary to be able to attract someone" goes down a lot smoother than "I am a repellent and uninteresting person others don't want to be around".
(Or "well I only just now accepted I'm a faggot, but no one on grindr wants to deal with a gay virgin")

It's like whenever I look at all the various flaws and failings and general obnoxiousness of the establishment "woke" left, I then remember Something Awful and think 'well, it could always be worse.'
Also there were goons that were running around with Aatrek avatars in 2013, and usernames like Aatrek Cures Kids. And even back then, the site was already past the point of no return in terms of absolute screeching humorlessness.

The countdown till the Olsen twins became legal was kind of a thing that was everywhere during that time, you'll see jokes about it in a lot of media from that era. Not that it wasn't kind of creepy in retrospect but it wasn't exactly out of the norm during that time frame.
