@Jaimas I would like to rate this post 'informative' more than once, but I can't, so know that I pressed the icon really, really hard by way of compensation.

Thanks so much for this post. I will go watch the videos now. I'm afraid I was a feminist before third-wave was a 'thing', I'm one of the old crusty kind who does her activism by volunteering and not by tumblr. So some of this... probably didn't ping my priority radar.
A feminist who actually does things that are helpful to their cause? No wonder you don't identify with these people.

It doesn't stop in gaming, either. The same people on the Anti-Gamergate side of things, though open censorship, essentially killed 4chan by selling out to the political correctness police. They were overjoyed at this prospect, before 8chan effectively supplanted it. They've already pushed for being able to control comments by Gamergate supporters on pretty much every forum they can. Twitter is particularly infamous, as is Reddit. In fact, Reddit recently had its mods take a stand against the corruption exhibited by the admins of the site. Annd they'll openly lie, stating that Gamergate is tiny, it's all white men, etc. Put up evidence that this isn't the case, and they'll pretend such evidence does not exist.

Thank you for this post.

I personally don't give too much of a shit about #GamerGate other than what I read about and witness on this forum, but I am sickened and repulsed by how the "SJW mindset" has bled into "real life", so to speak. This article is a bit old (two months), but it was published in the NYT magazine and the guy's book on social media shaming has recently been published. I cannot tell you how disgusted I feel when I think about how people are gloating in the name of "social justice" when a person is fired from their job and their life is ruined over a single tweet, even if the tweet may have been in bad taste (debatable, but we can assume it for the sake of argument).

Brianna completely exemplifies everything that is immoral and reprehensible about this extreme line of thinking, which is why I have absolutely no problem with laughing at the failure of her reality - no matter how much she might bleat about being the Thomas Edison of our time.

being the Thomas Edison of our time.
Hires people to make things, takes credit. Dogmatically sticks to stupid and bad solutions to the point that he killed an elephant just to try to make the competition look bad...
Comparisons between him and Edison seem appropriate enough.

I wonder at the depth of Wu's technical knowledge.

I've never seen him tweet anything detailed and every time he says something stupid and someone's dares to point it out we get "don't dare mansplain to me!" responses.
She pulled the same thing back when she was complaining how her game can only run on the Iphone 10 999GB Edition or some such. I wonder if it's because of all those 2000x2000 textures getting down sampled onto Holiday's tiny Barbie butt.

Whether or not you agree with GamerGate or not, I think we can all agree that, at the very least, they do a good job of shooting down spergs and others who make their movement look bad. I have never seen the Antis denounce anyone on their side, in contrast.
Except for the time Wu had coffee with Brad Wardell without trying to murder him. Half of The anti-gamers began crucifying her within minutes.

I thought I'd link this again because of how little it makes sense.

Read that again and remember that Wu doesn't run a game studio in a work space with physical people. She runs it from her home. She's referring to Twitter as a professional setting.

Fucking Twitter.

My personal favorite of the Antis failure to defend against allegations of the nutters in their movements was this:

For the uninitiated, Geordie Tait was the deranged lunatic who went on a week-long campaign of terror advocating that anyone who did hate Gamergate was worthy of death, and anyone who failed to toe his nonsense was to be considered a heretic:. This continued until he was mass-reported - by Anti-GGers - and permanently muzzled. To this day, many big-name Antis consider Tait something to emulate. Arthur Chu certainly does.

But here's some more from this brain-genius in Anti-GG:

B2T_mKpIQAAJ3TI.jpg

Geordie Tait dijo:
Well, guess what? Fuck #GamerGate, and every worthless piece of shit in it. Yes, the women too. Yes, the minorities too. I’d say the same about women and minorities who joined the KGB or the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei.

Geordie Tait dijo:
I hope everyone posting in #GamerGate gets gassed, incinerated, and their tooth fillings melted into a silver/gold WiiMotes for Kim Jong-un and his extended family. I just feel you all should make the same contribution to the furtherance of tyranny and inequality in death that you did in life.

Geordie Tait dijo:
And YOU. The self-hating gal who internalizes everything her dumb-fuck friends have shoveled down her stack, then calls it a unique worldview due to little more than pride and self-importance. Fuming at hearing me say that? You’re actually a feminist? Sorry, but no you’re not. Tough shit. If you’d listen to me I’d be happy to explain to you what’s up, but you never had any intention of listening because you want to feel like the special little snowflake of your guild full of maladjusted ADD cases. ‪#‎NotYourShield‬, huh?

The horrid part comes when you realize that he's not alone in this nonsense. Cate Gary of Blizzard Entertainment and Tifa Robles of Microsoft share the same damned views but aren’t willing to be nearly as vocal.

Fucking Twitter.

Well, to be fair to Mr. Wu Twitter is far more his job then being a game dev.

His game cost $200k to make and probaly only sold a few hundred copies at best but Twitter makes him over $3k a month. So yah, Twitter is his professional space.

why would you want to discuss feminism on a website that only lets you post 140 characters

140 characters is only enough for corporate slogans

use big words for big ideas

Because then you're compelled to articulate ideas in a more significant way. Anytime Wu has tried to elaborate on her fuzzy understanding of social issues, she falls flat on her face. Twitter is an ideal pulpit for using SJW slogans and staking vague claims. The level of interaction allows Wu to flail her wits and feign oppression.

Sorry to get off-topic, but I'm sorry if I sperg out a bit in this thread. Simply put, I don't think Wu is just a lolcow - I think she's a total creep along with that. And unlike other cows who think they're hot shit just because they made a piece of art that makes them the next Stan Lee or Shigeru Miyamoto, Wu gets away with it. He/she actually has supporters who justify his/her narcisism to him/her.

EDIT: Didn't really think that through at first, my apologies. By saying she gets away with it, I meant she thinks she's completely innocent, and that calling her on her actions are just misogynist cyberbowlies or whatever.

I'm sure it's been said before and I hate saying it (again) but Wu spent most of her life as a man. Almost everyone who contacts her is at least aware that she used to be a man which undoubtedly colors their interactions with her, so in other words if someone is actually a misogynist shitlord they probably aren't assuming she's a shit developer because of her feeble little woman brain because they probably don't think she has one in the first place. So complaining about "mansplaining" is laughable at best, at worst it's kind of what she's doing.

That and I just generally hate anyone who tries to speak for their entire gender. They invariably all seem like awful narcissistic people and need to go away.

One wonders why Wu prattles about feminism a thousand times more than she does about anti-transgender bigotry when the average transgender person experiences a metric shitload more hostility and discrimination than the average non-trans woman.

I'd like to hear Wu cisplain that.

It's actually worth noting that most SJWs prefer being able to sound-bite. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "LONG POSTS DO NOT MEAN U R SMRT, LOL" or some permutation thereof from some asshole, I'd be able to buy enough pizza for everyone here. Probably sodas, too. They hate facts, they hate science, and they hate being opposed or called to task.

That's actually a legit question, but it's one that Smutley answered a while ago. Basically, boil everything down, and Brianna Wu is Chris if he had a budget. Seriously. Revolution 60 is her Sonichu, Gamergate is her Blue Arms. Look at almost everything in Brianna's arsenal of stupid and you'll find analogies to Chris. Even her self-flags (PaintingATree comes to mind).

She refuses to even acknowledge she is transgender so she'll never touch the topic.

It's a common issue with this kind of thing. Most of the SJWs I've encountered would be hard pressed to have an actual debate, so it's their only option. They don't seem to do much research (sciencist!), so when encountering someone outside the echo chamber, their best chance of not looking like an ass is to stick to the party line and try to shout down the opposition as quickly as possible.

She refuses to even acknowledge she is transgender so she'll never touch the topic.
Wu is the kind of person who only champions a cause as long as it serves her interests. She no longer needs transgender rights (or so she thinks), so she shifts over to feminism, because it suits her better at the moment.
Rather ironic, since some of the more militant feminists might take umbrage with a MTF talking about the patriarchy.

I've been thinking this for a while too. It's like the movie Twins and Chris is the Danny DeVito half.

Even Wu's early artwork reminds me a lot of Chris' work if he were 50% more competent.

Both have lots of that one foot higher jump pose that the Sonichu Amiibo has too. Cramming something into every corner, no concept of how to use whitespace. Also note Brianna's ORIGINAL CHARACTER DONUT STEAL version of Ulala from Space Channel 5 top right. A game which is most certainly her Sonic, with her blog named after it.

While tracking down that early Wu art I also found it got posted to Boingboing which I found interesting with it being quite a poor piece of work. Of course we look and we soon find out why this was worthy of being posted on such a major site "(Thanks, Frank!)" yep bit more nepotism at work via Cory Doctorow.

Check out the comments for some luls like FrankenWu trying to explain the piece

Frank Wu dijo:
I think the issue is that art should have no limits. There should not be anything so sacred or untouchable (idea, religion, revered historical figure, feared evil) that it can’t be addressed in art.

MLK is so beloved, so revered that it makes him seem kind of stodgy – I think this is a cool way to blow some fresh air onto him. Say something new about someone we seem to know everything about.

Art should have no boundaries!

You dig?

Thanks for posting this, Corey! [sic]

I wanted to do something to deconstruct the solemn mythos around MLK. I thought that by making him a comic book hero, it would make him more real and relatable.

Attitudes at Ole Miss about race are very interesting. This is the state that had both white and black winners for prom queen at many schools. My own prom in the late 90s was segregated. Yet, there’s this strong insistence that no one there “sees race.”

I think Sonichu might actually have more body diversity than anything Wu's done.

As for that MLK thing... You ever hear someone talk at length about something and you just know that they have no bloody clue what they're talking about in any way whatsoever?
