Steven Universe Fandom

I really do want to know what children think about SU. Do they find it funny? Do they find it boring?

Because while I LOVE Steven Universe, I can see that it could be hard for a kid to get into it.
The problem mainly is that the humor isn't what a kid would find funny because they don't have the life experience to find subtle jokes funny. Also the stories and why what happens in them are important would go straight over their heads for the same reason. Patronizing and assuming kids are stupid and won't understand anything is bad, but there are going to be things that they genuinely won't "get" and that you put in for their parents' amusement or more likely, the sanity of the people writing it.

The problem comes in that when I watch Steven Universe I see a show for adults, by adults that is trying to be sold by CN as a show for kids. SU has the problem Freakazoid and Invader Zim did: it's not popular with kids because it seems like the creators really want to make a show for adults. I saw some parody Rick and Morty fanart of the show and can't help but think it would be better if it went for that audience and had that rating.

I like how they get so antsy over MLP R34 porn and ignore the fact that have so much Homeshit porn on Tumblr that nobody ever raised a complaint over.

Goddamn hypocrites.

Aren't the homewtuck characters mostly underage too?
Yet word of god all but stated the main MLP cast are pretty much young adults (especially considering two or three of the main six have jobs)

So it might just get even better.

"Word of God" kind of faded, but most people see the main characters as in their early 20s. Even the Equestria Girls versions are only slightly younger (seniors in high school.) Sometimes they justify this with "oh Homestuck is a franchise for adults!"but I think Homestuck as a whole was a fad and most of its fans are gone.

So in a way, that crossover turned out to be a great way to piss off the dumb SJW idiots that had hijacked the show and the fanbase. I'm gonna watch both shows a lot more now.

You might not like what you see - regardless of whichever show you watch. My bets are on UG to be the easiest bashed for anyone who tries to get into it (despite any positive opinion of mine on it...) because of its stupidity, sadly enough - but when it comes down to it, SU has pissed me off a lot more... And these "fans" ain't helping my case too much, despite the worst of them (not really) likely giving up on the show and doing the rest of us a favor.

For a long time Tumblr has been a salvation station for the Homestuck fandom since its inception.

Is this not the case anymore, @Meowthkip? You've been on Tumblr for quite awhile and would know more about this than I.

I pity anyone actually interested in content that has to deal with their fandom primarily being on Tumblr.

Yeah, that's a lot of bullshit to wade through. Thankfully if all you do is just reblog the stuff of people you follow, you can avoid a lot of the crap. Least that's how I manage.

Since the crossover episode is over - I guess the UG drama will slowly disappear. But the next outrage is just waiting around the corner. What do you think will happen next?
If another Steven Universe episode comes, there could be drama depending on how that episode is. Perhaps one focusing on Steven's parents when they met could rouse Tumblerites in some way.

Funny you should mention that....here's the sneak peak of the new ep.

Given that some fans hate Greg, we'll see where it leads.

On a separate note, I really do love the music in this show.

One may as well get some popcorn and wait and see how this plays out. Perhaps this might drive a wedge between the show and spergs further. This might as well be like with the bronies when they bawwed about some episodes of their precious horse show not being good for them.

As I mentioned, I never watched much of SU because I just didn't see the appeal, yet even I had a feeling that a "Gemsona" was an actual thing. It reminded me of all of the Invader Zim tards who used to make their own "Invader ____" personas.

Speaking of Zim, Jhonen Vasquez and Jenny Goldberg (creator of "Rick and Morty") are working together on a new show for Disney. Now I think THAT'S gonna be a show with potential, if Disney doesn't BS&P it to death.

Oh yeah, the Gemsonas are very much a thing. Given the Gems are basically female humanoids based on different gem stones, they're pretty popular. A bunch of my friends who are other artists have made them.

There's a lot of sucky ones but some people get really creative. It's nerdy as all hell, but it's actually one of the pleasant things about the fandom? Anything where people use their talents to contribute is a positive in my book.

The Homestuck fandom has been quiet, but when an update happens, it comes roaring to life.

It's hibernating. It will never truly go until Hussie ends it.

Why do they hate Greg, again? Is it because he's a dirty deadbeat MALE single father and Steven should be raised by the glorious lesbian space rock trio?
Basically. They use the excuses that since he lives in a van and not with Steven, is poor, ect, that he's a bad lazy parent and doesn't care about his son, ignoring the fact Greg spends a ton of time with him, is most likely the one that bought all of Steven's stuff and food since the Gems don't exactly have a paying job, and a bunch of other stuff.

They seem to use the "caring a lot doesn't make you a good parent" rationalization. You know, the whole way that they portray Greg as caring but incompetent and the way that people hate him for it really is a bit of an issue when you have characters like Steven in shows and I think it is to pander to Tumblrish groups.

People don't like Greg because he looks like a loser who lost at life and is getting in the way of their fantasy of raising a young boy up in the way that they see fit with the Gems, from what I've seen. God help you if you show a single father that actually is raising a kid right.

That the thing. Greg is hardly incompetent. He's made some mistakes, but what parent hasn't?

I'd argue that he's one of the best dads on tv at the moment.

I think that's the thing though. The creators took the look of a "deadbeat dad" character and made Greg, an actual competent parent. He may live in a van, sure, but he owns his own business, is always there for his son, clearly loves him, ect. I think the main reason Steven lives with the Gems is due to Steven needing to learn how to harness and control his powers. Given what backstory has been given regarding the Gems, Greg seems to know just how important Steven is in the grand scheme of things and wants what's best for him, even if that means not being able to live with him. I'm willing to bet any money he earns not spent on food and upkeep of the van/home goes to keeping Steven feed, clothed, and everything.

For all that they go on and on about subtly in the show, the tumblr fandom really seems to overlook Greg's character.

There's certain groups that basically want every TV dad to be Milhouse's dad. Not even Homer Simpson, Milhouse's dad. They want something they can point at and say "SEE?! Men can't raise children alone!" Imagine the inverse happening, holy shit. Iknow of two video games that showed the mom as the bad one and they drove Tumblr insane and they tried to say that what the games were actually trying to do was the opposite when it clearly wasn't.

I've seen open contempt for Greg mostly because again, they don't trust the concept of a single father and think Greg is laughable and pathetic. Sure he has a job, but it's barely anything to them and it isn't respected. These are also the people that think the love a father can give is somehow worth less than any given woman. Even genderless rocks from outer space.
