Ah yes, but it's one of the things I love about it, just like with Gravity Falls. They both got balls (though GF more in the nightmare fuel way like http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...hapeshifter_twins.png/revision/20140806234740)

I mean we didn't seem to have much of a problem scaring the shit out of children then kicking them in the feels for good measure before so good to see the tradition's still alive.

Shit like that is why I fucking love Gravity Falls. As a kid who loved monsters and supernatural stuff, I would have ate it up.

I maintain that I want sit an SJW down and have them watch the filmography of Ralph Bakshi. Mainly to see how they'd react to Coonskin.

I imagine they'd leave the room in huffy indignation less than five minutes after it started, missing out on a lot of the biting social commentary and just seeing the admittedly crude racial caricatures.

So far I've seen a lot of people questioning the creator's choice to draw porn of other established cartoon characters, and as someone who works in the animation industry, I can confirm that nobody gives a shit about that kind of thing.

I mean, exercise judgment on when it's appropriate to share, of course. But seriously, nobody in the workplace cares if you have a deep, dark past full of hardcore yaois.

Humans have been drawing dicks since the time they discovered drawing was a thing that could be done. Animators aren't any different from the rest of you!

Thanks for backing me up.

Animators and cartoonists are weird fuckin' people. The industry knows this going in.

I'm sure they figured it out with years of animators running dirty jokes by the censors just to see if they can get away with it.

Oh yeah, I remember reading about that whole Tiny Toon fiasco.

I think I read that one of the last episodes had a nerdy guy who complained a lot and obsessed over "Not Pepe Le Pew". (I don't remember her name)Basically poking fun at the show's weirder part of the fan base.

Fifi LeFume. I know this, because a ton of older furries still have crushes on her. I find that a little bit ironic, considering her character was a female Pepe who would crush on and obsess over hot dudes.

Oh, Dennis Falk. Your name will live on in infamy.

How come I always hear about representation in cartoons but never say, representation in Congress from these people? You know, shit that actually matters?

Representation in cartoons is nice because it normalizes these kinds of things. A lot of people will point to the cultural impact Star Trek had when it had a diverse crew. MLK himself told Nichelle Nichols not to leave the show when she thought about quitting because he thought it was too important to have a professional black woman being treated as an equal among her peers on television. The Cosby Show depicted black middle class life when there hadn't been any real precedence for that on television. I could list off a ton of examples, really.

Media representation can help shift cultural attitudes towards minorities, but it's only one step on a big stairway. Tumblr focuses all of their energy on one single step, praising it to the high heavens when there are many more steps that need to be taken, and I suspect because they're all very young and the larger world of activism is overwhelming. A lot of these people still live with their parents. They've never really dealt with housing or community outreach or politics firsthand, at least not in any real capacity. So they focus on what they can understand, which is television and movies.

They're also like, huge fucking nerds, so of course they'd channel all of that rage against the cis white patriarchy into fucking cartoons and comics.

These people are teenagers and young adults just entering any real political awareness, and they don't have the good sense to temper that passion with any kind of pragmatism. There is no scale of importance because microaggressions are just as important as outright bigotry in their eyes. You tell them to pick their battles, they flip the fuck out.

It's going to be interesting to see how these attitudes might shift in the next 5-10 years.

Well I know one thing for sure from this thread so far. @Meowthkip totally doesn't have a secret furry R34 stash and only "knows" things without being involved. It's okay, I don't judge. ;)

It's weird that this didn't happen so much with Gravity Falls. I know Tumblr likes characters like Steven and Dipper because they're little innocent characters that you can dote on and "protect." It's interesting to say the least.

wow look at all this salt
how old is this person, 14?
Yo, comicfag here.

The Teen Titans cartoon is great and all, but it's an awful adaptation of The New Teen Titans, which was basically DC's answer to Claremont's run on X-Men (melodrama and all). Show Starfire is barely anything like her source material counterpart, Deathstroke was immensely toned down, and the fact they managed to get Trigon on the air was a feat. The cartoon is to the comics what Go is to the cartoon.

Buuuut I wouldn't expect them to know that, since tumblr refuses to read anything that isn't hive-mind approved.

The Tiny Toons fandom started this downward spiral.

It just keeps on getting worse.

One dude basically personally started this downward spiral.

The walking nightmare known as Dennis M. "quozl" Falk.

You can literally smell him just from an image.

Oh, Dennis Falk. Your name will live on in infamy.

Derp. I should have read to the end of the thread since you were getting ready to go there anyway. They actually basically mocked him in the show itself.

They couldn't make him as disgusting and repulsive as he actually was, though.

The horror.

But really, they're being adults because they realize they're being attacked and that, ironically, this makes the attackers look worse. Anyone doing that is 'being adult'.

If you are ever in an Internet slapfight and bronies are "the adults" in it, you should promptly commit suicide. Life is just not going uphill for you. In fact, your life is basically over, if it even existed at all.

And fascinatingly, Teen Titans also provided the genesis for one of the original Internet lolcows, the notorious Dakari-King Mykan, who unsurprisingly has a thread about him here.

He even preceded tumblr for getting Internet PTSD from cartoons.

Okay, I saw this thread on my phone this morning, but its only now that I'm on my laptop I can finally post this.

So yesterday, somebody on tumblr posted this image and a short comment on it.

You know I did kinda see this coming. Young boy shares a house with three attractive magical ladies? That premise just screams ecchi comedy.

When I originally saw it, I just laughed thinking it was a funny fanart and reblogged it(I didn't really read what he had said. I never really thought it was a real thing because...well, its kinda obvious why.

Certain parts of tumblr, however, thought it was a real thing. And proceeded to flip their shit, screaming everything to "HOW DARE THEY!" to "HE"S SIX, YOU SICK FREAKS!"

So a few hours later, the original poster reblogged it and had this to say:

UPDATE: Woooww this really blew up while I was gone! Happy April Fools’, people! The outrage has been pretty amazing so far

So you'd think that be the end of it, right?

NOPE!
People still got mad and raged over it because they drew Steven and Amethyst(the boy and purple girl) skinny and not chubby, ect.

Makes you wonder if they even know what a sense of humor is, let alone have one. I love the show and I find this hilarious.

Oh shit I saw this. Well, a screencap of some of the reaction to it, anyway.

Top kek.

FAN INTERPRETATIONS OF CHARACTERS THAT DON'T EVEN BELONG TO US IN THE FIRST PLACE??!
I'M SO TRIGGERED!

Well that makes me want to watch it and I actually found the show kind of 'meh'.
Serious question to people who like SU, does the writing get better? I couldn't get into it and I watched ten episodes.

I personally don't like it very much. I watched a few episodes after friends raved about it but I thought it was a pretty generic kids show. It's not terrible, but as an adult with HBO I have better options to spent my limited TV time on.

As a fan, I can say the writing does get stronger(and I like the first ten eps).

Its similar to Adventure Time in that there are bits and piece of a deeper plot sprinkled in early eps that keep building until there's a string of episodes that directly address them and the show's world suddenly expands/character's backstories are more developed/ect. I think it was episode 13 "Too Many Birthdays" that suddenly made me realize the kinds of places the show would go. I enjoy it a lot, but you should make your own call.

I'd recommend watching the first season in full though, at the very least. That'd be episode 25/26 as the season finale.

Última edición:
On the one hand, it's a fucking cartoon. On the other, I saw a post deconstructing one character's relationship with another (they weren't a couple; they were ruler and subject) and how certain emblems meant certain choices were made to obfuscate identities and how that dynamic affected other characters. Which is really some Simpsons level attention to detail, I gotta say.

Also if people insist on portraying that one character as always black because of her hair, that's fucking racist as shit and they should be ashamed of themselves.
