To be honest, I am pretty torn about this quarantine and I think people who oppose it do have solid grievances. The point of my original post was not to argue against the possibility of ending the quarantine but to argue against the statement "
The longer it goes on with the average person realizing they don’t know anyone who had it (let alone died from it) the less support there is for these measures." I guess I should have been clearer on that. My bad.
That's why I tried to use phrases such as "soon" and "upcoming months" as much as I could. COVID-19 is still spreading and eventually just about every American will have to be exposed to the virus in the upcoming months, which will mean many more people will see that hospitalization and death rate in action. Just because many people in the US can say "I don't know anyone who has been hospitalized or died from COVID-19 so I don't see a point in shutting down the country" today doesn't mean they'll be saying that in May or June.
There are also going to be people like
@neverendingmidi who may know someone who is affected by it but still think "we shouldn't shut down the country" and cool, they're 100% allowed to have their opinion. But that doesn't mean there aren't going to be plenty of people that once said "this quarantine is terrible" will become more favorable to it once their parent/coworker/friend/favorite Taco Bell cashier who gives them a free drink with their order croaks from it.
(I hope I made my point clear.)
