Victor Mignogna v. Funimation Productions, LLC, et al. (2019) - Vic's lawsuit against Funimation, VAs, and others, for over a million dollars.

Can we punish them any more? I'd argue that aside from having a good ol' time with this entire shitshow, we haven't done any punishing. The people punishing Jaime and Monica specifically are the people waiting hours in lines at "no name Funko Pop shops", hotels, dojos, and pizza shops to simply get an autograph with the man. The people punishing Jamie and Monica are the people not showing up to give them similar--if not better--lines than alleged sexual predator Vic Mignogna. The people punishing Jaime and Monica are the people screaming at the top of their lungs that they're victims,. yet won't fork over money to go to conventions they're at despite being part of a Twitter mob trying to get them more appearances. The people punishing Jaime and Monica are the people not purchasing FUNimation subscriptions or dubs, because that shows the suits that they aren't worth the money to hire in the future, and that impacts their bottom line.

Aside from the courts giving us a case to go forward with--which is a strong likelihood at this point--there has been enough damage done to Jaime and monica at this point to make them wonder what's going to happen after it all settles down. Jaime's the only one whose fees are taken care of, but Monica and Ron, if nothing changes, are out $180,000. They can't sue FUNimation for that. Monica's new venture, Interspecies Reviewers--a show she was the a leading character in--was unceremoniously yanked after one episode (though she likely recorded for and was paid for three) so there's no money coming from there. Her convention invites are low right now and possibly won't be picking up because she doesn't bring in money for conventions, the same as Jaime (Jaime actually complained about this in November, I believe, that she had less than half the number of invites compared to the same time the year prior). neither one is going to move on from voice acting to actual acting--Jaime could have done it five years ago, but Monica couldn't. Both are ugly, fat harpies, and people don't want to see that.

The real punishment, though, would be seeing Vic carry on and succeed. Sure, they could always scream that TCPA threw out Vic's case, but even as that happens he's getting more and more convention invites. Convention owners are seeing the numbers he's pulling in and they're weighing the options: bring in Vic, make money even though a bunch of fat, screeching harpies who weren't even coming to your convention will try to astroturf your convention, or don't bring him in in which case you don't make money because those harpies weren't coming anyways. The real punishment would be seeing Vic keep his house and builing up his own recording studio and recording business, watching him continue to make money while they wallow in misery, and Ron and Monica ten years from now are still "engaged".

Those would be the real punishments for the defendants.
we don't want to wait that long for them to have a meltdown tho (:_(

To me "justice" is setting things as close to "right" as possible. The court case is unfortunately at best a tool to get that.

Funimations and Rooster Teeth could do the most by giving him his roles back, explaining that they were lied to and are working to improve their HR standards.

Of course that isn't going to happen. The companies are going to just ignore this unless there is a huge PR backlash.

As for the defendants? Rial and Marchi are both outed as liars already. They are on the way out of the industry. Ron is having a mental breakdown. At this point can we punish them more? I suppose yes but it would be more violent than anything.

Courts can only do so much. The rest will be up to the fans to support him.
Suddenly there has been a sharp uptick in roles Rial and Marchi have been getting at Funimation.

Agreed. Jamie and Monica have felt some consequences, perhaps, but there hasn't been any punishment yet.

Pretty much this. The best we can do is ostracize them. We can't sew scarlet "L"'s to their clothing.

Suddenly there has been a sharp uptick in roles Rial and Marchi have been getting at Funimation.

Roles aren't where they make their money though. Half those anime will be forgotten in a month anyway.

I've always felt that he was just a mediocre voice actor
I think, for the most part, all Voice Actors are mediocre. I'm pretty sure that this is going to be an unpopular opinion but, I am guessing that a significant portion of these people are VAs because they can't cut it as regular actors. I would also add that I don't think that a whole lot of TV or film actors are anything but mediocre good-looking people.

To clarify, I'm not convinced that the vast majority of actors are "artists". I think for the most part the talented people behind the scenes are what makes an actor. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that some actors are artists but I would suggest that the vast major majority of them are akin to a boy-band.
I just don't get why ruining his career would help hers?
These people make most of their money at conventions. Imagine how many people who go to conventions only have the resources (time/money) to stand in line for many hours to get one autograph. Vic's lines eclipse most of these Funimation VAs lines.

You're going have quite a few people who are there to get Vic's autograph and for one reason or another are not gonna want to hang around to get another. All of these VAs have a huge incentive to make sure Vic isn't invited to conventions. How much of the $30,000 (IIRC) worth of autographs that Vic got at Kamehacon would have gone straight to Monica if he weren't there?

Monica's new venture, Interspecies Reviewers--a show she was the a leading character in--was unceremoniously yanked after one episode (though she likely recorded for and was paid for three) so there's no money coming from there.
Just a point of correction. Monica was not a leading character. There were two dudes and then the dickgirl angel, who was voiced by Brittney Karbowski. Monica appeared in episode 1 as an elf whore.

I suppose that depends on how many of those people only want to see Vic. If they find out he isn't invited, would they just seek out one of the other VAs? I'm sure some would, and some wouldn't.

T. Greg says that Ron and Monica will file the brief with a pro forma motion asking for the extension retroactively.

What Klan settlement is he talking about out of curiosity? Hes not talking about his dumb lawsuit is he?

I don't think that Monica believes it will help her career. At this point it's about revenge and convincing herself that her actions are somehow justified. That's the thing about being human, sometimes we do things for no other reason than to satisfy some irrational emotion even knowing that doing so will be detrimental to our own goals. She has absolutely nothing to gain and yet now she's too far into the trench to get back out. For Monica it's an issue of pride which is often the most dangerous of emotions and the hardest to overcome.
It was about the director role Vic was getting at Funi. All of a sudden he, someone from outside the clique who they didnt like and were jealous of, was going to have power over them all and they hated that.

I have seen accounts online of people who wanted several VA autographs but because his line is long they went to him first to make sure they get it and then aren't interested in doing it all again for someone they don't care that much about. I have seen accounts of him staying after hours to finish his lines, and in that situation other VA's wouldn't even be signing anymore. I'm sure people who go to more conventions than I could come up with plenty of other similar circumstances.

I'm not involved in the anime fandom at all and I have seen several accounts like that online, so I am sure it happens enough that it makes a difference. Particularly for like a less popular person who is going to feel a proportionally greater impact on their earnings.

Apparently Vic takes things more seriously than most of these people and would expect professionalism which we have all seen is not high on their priorities. Suddenly going to work everyday becomes a job instead of just jerking off with your buddies.

These assholes have all the reasons in the world to want to sink Vic. People get accused of harassment and shit all the time for much less in office politics.

Vic is the smart, hard-working kid in the classroom of white trash who throws off the curve by actually doing the work. Hence they hate him and want to drag him down to their sped level.

I think you guys give Vic way too much credit, but he's definitely super wholesome.
Also, don't know if this has been mentioned yet but Vic is kinda hot. I think that is the primary reason he's so popular with the young girls. Hot, charming, and wholesome.

Meanwhile Monica is fat, bitchy, and Ron adjacent.

Yeah, we can't bother to put any effort. That's too problematic. We can't let one voice actor tell us to do a better job and not spend our free time dilly dallying on Twitter. We must get rid of evil Lic Lasagna because he's not like us, being fat, lazy, incompetent and lacking self-respect.

No, I agree with you. Remember a few years ago when this same cabal of idiots in the industry started their 'performance matters' campaign, whining about their "low" pay? I agreed with them in part. Performance definitely matters. But performance mattering doesn't mean these people should be paid more, it means consumers deserve better than having the same 10 medicore fuckwits voicing every character in every show and game. These people are awful.

One of the "Vic is a diva" complaints is that he insisted on multiple takes, as if that's actually a bad thing instead of what a conscientious actor would do fairly often. It's not like he was flipping shit over and screaming at people like Christian Bale (although that guy kind of deserved it).

The worst part of it was that the campaign you mentioned was video game voice actors. Probably the most cushy video game position outside of CEO or some bs managerial role. They're complaining about being overpaid for 10 hour work weeks while coders are working 80+ hours, with shitty contracts that sometimes leave them basically working less than minimum wage, but not a peep came from the va's about that.

There's also been a sharp downtick in funi's viewership and income. Coincidence? I think now!

Anecdotal evidence, but I've noticed a huge uptick in Funimation emails since ~November. Went from like 1 email every two weeks to an email every 2 days or so. But looking at it the same flood of emails came out last November to March, dying off near entirely by May.

Are they trying to pad sub numbers for the end of year fiscal reports or something?
