Goons for me where the first people I witnessed up close who play videogames obsessively while not really deriving any enjoyment out of them, rather treating them like a job they have to do by finishing them 100% autistically even if it's not even remotely fun to do so. I mean this is of course not a goon-only thing and very widespread especially in mmorpgs and such, but with goons I've seen it first as sort of a culture and it's also just such a given in all their game-related threads that people who actually play games to have fun and stop playing them when they're not fun stick out like a sore thumb. If they'd invest half that energy they invest to 100% some throway indie "thing of the year" or to optimize their mmorpg spreadsheet simulator by 8% in actually improving their lives, they'd be a lot happier and would not feel the desire to do these things. These kinds of games goons weren't really all that funny, just mostly sad. Most of them were still very young when they were that way. I can't imagine the horror that'll creep in when they get older, realize life is finite and they wasted so much of it on this crap. It's probably one of the reasons for these types trooning out so often. Trying to "start over", in a way. There rarely are do overs in life.

I even remember seeing goons complain that Rock Band 3 had a limit of 2,000 songs loaded at a time - as in, even if you bought every single export for every retail Rock Band game (excluding Beatles), and all the track packs, you'd still need to buy over 1,600 songs for a dollar or two a piece.

I don't play MMOs, but I heard about the Elitest Jerks WoW clan and how apparently they had some of the top players in the entire world. I'm sure there have got to be plenty of stories of goon lunacy from the world of MMOs.

I remember that! It was because AxeManiac, a mod of Games at the time, was a huge fan of Duke Nukem and would post about how DNF was gonna be the best game of all time. When the demo launched, there was a shitstorm of "uh, this isn't very good", and that's when the probations started rolling out.

Before the probations, I thought it was all just shitposting. I didn't think anyone seriously expected DNF to be any good, but I guess AxeManiac was 100% serious all along? He even rolled out "DUKE'S BROS" gang tags, that later got replaced with "Serious Sam's Club" ones once the common consensus was that, yeah, DNF was terrible.

I thought that was an ironic thing the whole time, and that the guy Axe Maniac played to cosplay Duke at the launch party was all just really carrying through with the joke (I wasn't reading things closely and just saw references to it here and there). Oh how wrong I was.

nah that pre dates SA. the oldest use i know of is on everquest (circa 1999-2001) but it may have been even older. it's been a part of sa culture since the beginning -- there are several posts containing it way back when the site was free reg, suggesting it was a fresh meme around when sa began, but it did not originate there. i feel like goons mix that up a lot and wind up claiming things they didn't create though so i would not be surprised if goons claim it began on there.

I can't speculate on being so fucking mentally ill that you convince yourself reality is wrong to make yourself feel better but I think they usually circle the wagons on any tranny with only rare exceptions. To allow any questions, criticism or realism at all would shatter their fantasy narrative completely.

Iron Rose was allowed to post on SASS for a little while. It wasn't until there were a bunch of screenshots of a growing pile of wrong opinions that they were flipped into a "Self Hating" troon and shunned.

The TL;DR of this post is that a mediocre artist consistently whines about his poor decisions, namely that he relies on freelance work from goons and Deviantart instead of sticking with real jobs.
