Side note: whats with these American 'sandwich' breads? These look like hamburger buns which more resemble cake with all that sugar and puffy consistency.

Ciabatta is an Italian bread (well, supposedly, who even knows) that's meant to be rustic. But to answer your question, rye bread isn't a delicacy here because everyone hates it. A lot of people will eat a whole grain bread, which is arguably still pretty unhealthy because... well because we put sugar in everything.

Rye bread is hearty and filling, and usually not resembling puffed up carbohydrate powder.

- These are small individual ciabatta rolls.
- America doesn't really have bakeries the way Europe does. American bakeries are much more expensive and don't offer whatever the daily 1-2$ bread. Americans are lucky to have bread baked from frozen in their supermarkets, most was baked weeks ago.
- American bread crust is pretty terrible. A lot of european bread has a good crust, like the outside of seared meat and it's the most important part. American bread crust tastes dry and burned. It's not that it's too hard, it's not really hard at all, but the taste and texture can be the same as the interior but less pleasant. Imagine a brioche crust but burned instead of caramelizing.

Does it matter what kind of bread she is using when this fat cow pours garlic salt and other ghastly dollar-tree quality spices instead of good quality mustard for example. She eats garbage and whatever she prepares is turning in garbage too.

Her problem is still quantity. She could have one of those sandwiches and lose weight. She could have two sandwiches with about half the crap she put in them and lose weight.
She's not 600 pounds because she eats poor quality food, she's 600 pounds because she eats enough food for three people each and every day (or maybe enough for 2 people each day and then binges with enough to feed 10)
