I've been into games, comics, etc. since before gender became a hot button issue in those hobbies. I never felt the least bit harassed or excluded because I was female. Nobody gave a shit what your sex was as long as you knew what you were talking about and could back up your opinions with facts. Nerds as a whole were isolated from the mainstream then, so maybe it was more important that somebody had similar interests than what their race/gender/sexual orientation - or whatever other subcategory one could include - was.

He was an unhinged man who lived relatively close to her. He had a car and demonstrated that he was willing to attempt to drive to her. He also convinced a lot of people he was real. Being worried in that situation is the right choice.

If someone made videos documenting themselves building pipe bombs and then made some bomb threats, I'd hope the cops would look into it. Similarly, Jace made a bunch of videos showing himself to be a raving lunatic with a knife. He had a car and demonstrated he was willing to drive to Brianna Wu. You and I know that he's a harmless idiot (and now we know it was a hoax), but that's not immediately apparent to everyone.
Edit: Like if Chris threatened to blow up sega? Nothing to worry about. Now if Chris threatened to pepper spray all the gamestop ass managers in Charlottesville? That'd be a bit more worrying. (On a more minor scale, of course.)

Well there you go! One is a character actor who was doing his bit, unbeknownst to people involved in the act. The other is a pretty well documented crazy.
One will go through with harmful actions (Chris), while the other does it as a hobby (Jace). He found a crowd of people who enjoyed his shtick so he evolved it.
Who can you say has been truly harmed from Jace and Deagle Nation, except the members of the Kiwifarms who needed sutures for their sides?
Brianna? That's a stretch. She lives in a glass house. Any shadow is a threat. She pulled her company from PAX East because, "Women in gaming, what did I expect?"

I think he was considered public enemy #1 at one point...especially during Borat and Bruno. He's gotten into some shit over the things he's done.

Looking at some articles now. It's a different beast legally. He mostly got into hot water for having people sign waivers under false pretenses.

Okay, from an outside perspective, yeah he could seem very unhinged if you judge his internet personality only. The same could be said for B-Wu if you only view her outlets on social media. I'm sure Jace/Jan is actually a normal dude at the end of the day. Hell I would drink a brew with Wu one time just to get to know the real person.

I know I'm pretty new to the forums, but I don't remember when Jace threatened Brianna Wu's life specifically. Feel free to link to any videos if they do.

Real organized criminals don't use indexed websites.
Youtube's major legal problem is piracy - not a threat buried within a 2 hour livestream.
More creditable threats are subtle not dead or alive playing in the background with an overturned car and someone having a Mel Gibson meltdown.
As I recall Jared Loughner had a edge lordy video of him busting up boom boxes to gain respect.
As much as places like 4ch been perceived in the old media as the DARK INTERNET
it isn't.
Twitter is filled with twits and broken AIs - Remember when Sam Biddle thought some ISIS videos were funny?
Or the time Gawker tricked a Coca-Cola bot into making Mein Kampf ASCII art?
These people are ultimately hypocrites.
In the end the internet only provides information not reality,
Or for certain individuals who took media literacy at Bard College,
But probably just watched movies: Techne not Episteme.
