I'm reminded of that episode of Deadliest Warrior that pitted the cartels against Somalian pirates. I think the pirates won. Was pretty funny.

But anyways, ISIS by far, it's not even close. ISIS at its peak was essentially a country with armed forces and far better funded too. Add in the lack of self-preservation via suicide bombs and human wave attacks and there's no comparison.

I sincerely doubt the average cartel gunman is much better trained in any way that would make a difference either.
I think you should look up a place called Sinaloa, and how long and how completely it's been controlled by its eponymous cartel, and then search "Sinaloa" on LiveLeak.

My sister who was in the air force said that a LOT of the people who were in basic training with her were active gang members and the only reason they were there was so that they could get the superior military training, serve the minimal amount of time necessary and then get out.

It makes sense.
Yeah I've heard that before, and I can back up what she's saying. But it's not gonna change the disparity in weaponry, manpower, and funds. It's also important to verify if we're talking current day ISIS which is delegated to mostly a guerilla force or peak ISIS which was pretty much a country fighting on multiple fronts. Yeah sure they're mostly idiots, but then you get hardcore Chechen war vets and so on who know how to fight better than any cartel LARPers. There's experts on both sides. Difference is, one side is a lot more willing to die and take plenty of people with them.

I know for a fact some cartel operatives are either CIA-trained or ex-military. Maybe they only keep those guys around for hits or raids, but that's still a marked advantage over what we've seen from the Islamic State. It also isn't uncommon for American gangbangers (which the cartels have bleed over with) to be trained as infantrymen or marine grunts and then not re-enlist.

It's more than just being a good shooter. Winning a prolonged or large engagement requires organization, discipline and logistics. Something I'd hand off to an international organized crime network, who has even gone so far as to set up their own cell phone towers in the past, over religious zealots.

Cartel easily, ISIS were fucking retarded, the made stupid move after stupid move, the cartel on the other hand knows wtf they're doing

Cartels by far. A lot of them are ex-police, ex-military, or even both. They've even dabbled in building submarines to smuggle drugs worldwide. Some have also been in the business for decades at this point while ISIS is just made up of noobs.

Gonna have to place bets on the cartels. Was gonna say radical ideologists have enough motivation and spergery to win, depending on who's in who's territory, then it's one or the other, or some shit. But the cartels have been shown to be less spergy, brutal, coordinated and not take shit from anybody while being able to look presentable and make connections.

They didn't even take shit from their own peeps in the Latin Americas. Even when the migrants cried "We're one of you!", the cartels laughed and said "LOL NO U GET REKT FGGT CARTELS FOR LIFE" because the migrants managed to piss them off so much. It shouldn't take a tard to realize it's a bad idea to piss off cartels or take a cartels 'hospitality' (if you can call it that) in vain.

Keep in mind the standard for Muslim soldiers out there is pretty low. Taking control over a Muslim country would be easier than taking over a Mexican one.

Very true, but that's still a massive amount of ground to cover and hold. And the standard for Mexican police and soldiers isn't much higher in many cases.
