Spawn 300 isn’t a good example of a comic doing well in the current industry. It’s a milestone issue of well-known character. Of course it was going to sell well. Couple that with the fact that McFarlane actually bothered to get off his ass and draw the issue it was pretty much guaranteed to turn heads.

All those things factored in, the current story on Spawn is unreadable, poorly edited garbage and I’m sure 2-3 issues from now McFarlane and Capullo are going to stop contributing art and going back to letting Jason Shawn Alexander do all the heavy lifting. 302 has already slid back into McFarlane doing only a small portion of the actual art.

Give it a few months. Spawn’s numbers are going to drop again very fast.

They were comparing just how much interest a true comic book star was getting for a self published comic as opposed to the microscopic interest in EVS and Cyberfrog. EVS was never a top tier comic book star that could do a self published comic that could be the number one comic in 2019 and do that nearly 30 years after it's introduction. If EVS had been around back when Image was founded he would not have been asked to join. He never had the fan following those guys had. Those guys carried their titles and did so much kick ass art that Marvel was selling millions worth of merchandise off their art and fans were buying their comics just to see their work. EVS was carried by Johns and a big event with Green Lantern. He thinks of himself as on their level. He had indicated he could have brought such sales if he were around in those days. And yet, here we are. Todd McFarlane just produced a number one comic in 2019 while EVS is back in little league just fantasizing about playing big league ball again.

McFarlane could call DC or Marvel today and make a deal in 60 seconds to do a major comic for them. EVS couldn't even get fill in work from them and even if they did give him work, it would not be a big event like a major artist had signed to do work for them.

Anyone can, but none of the smoothbrained screechers that nuke everything they touch even bothered to try. Just get some decent documentation and try out the proving grounds. It'll have the foot traffic, but you need good documentation for it too since mods give it a once over before letting them go on.

I'd say don't, even if there is plenty of documentation out there, this guy just deserves to rot in indifference and irrelevance just like a Zoey quinn or Anita sarkeesian, so he doesn't scam his books to more people than necessary. Anyway from his videos, Warcampaign and his spergy stupid audience on twitter he already scares every normies from interacting with him on a daily basis. Despite that, opening a thread about him would be giving him too much honor and the engagement he just doesn't deserve.

There is no proof whatsoever that he was ever popular enough to carry a title. Ian Churchill could've been doing GL & Flash Rebirth and sales would've been the same. The best GL artists of the 2000s would be Ivan Reis, Doug Mahnke, Seth Fisher and Carlos Pacheco.

Bottom line: In 2019, Todd McFarlane can sell over 200K copies of one self published comic in a month. EVS couldn't even break 9K backers.

Just right now on this stream EVS is trying to grift people in and getting all bitter and pissed at other smaller artists that makes less than 3K a month and have problems making a living and discussing it on twitter, he's so out of touch making fun of people that actually makes a normal wage that he doesn't realize how fucking out there he sounds and looks.

Also making fun of artist that gets 91000 reads on their comic books by being pirated, but Cyberfrog can't even get more than 8K backers/readers. Even less of them wants to actually open his book, resell them by the dozen on ebay for a loss without even ever opening and reading it, not only that but the funniest part of it, is that no one even tries to pirate it, that's how little people really cares about his shit.

And that, is the best reality check when no one even tries to pirate your awfull, uninteresting and boring comic book for others to read it online.

The Karl kid seems interesting and has a good looking book and he doesn't even have a youtube channel. I don't agree with Malin's statement that if you are CG then you have to be on youtube and be some e-celeb. There's no guarantee youtube is going to be around much longer anyway.

Agreed. I like Malin, he's got a heart of gold. He wanted to promote indie books, and he did a pretty good job of it... until a boomer got his channel struck. Now he's cranking out long videos about youtube comicsgate drama that Ethan can't be assed to make because he's too busy streaming and cranking out Star Wars videos.
There have been many occasions where many different people have been on a stream with Ethan, REEing about something, and Ethan eventually says "Well it's gotta be this way, you're either for comicsgate or you're against us, and THESE GUYS are comicsgate."
A week goes by, those guys get high on EVS's youtube fumes to the tune of some pittance they think is 'good views' (normally 20k at most) and the whole process embitters people against them. The gay ops continue and the cycle repeats a few weeks later.
I really don't want that to happen to Malin, all he needs is good writers and maybe to start working with actual ink and paper.
