Fast food glass mugs - Anyone remember these?

Anyone else remember Welch's Tom and Jerry grape jelly jar glasses? All my white trash relatives had those in the 1980s.

Oh my fucking god I used to have one of these. The tom and jerry ones were given to me by my grandmother years ago when I was a kid. I was pissed off that the tom one was broken into pieced by one of my siblings.

Confession: I have a stockpile of about 30 of the Lord of the Rings goblets. Most of them are still in the box. I love them. They're my primary drinking glass. Dunno why. Had a relative that worked at BK at the time, she was able to get me a bunch of them cheap so I only ate a few too many whoppers, not *way* too many whoppers...

I remember I was really hoping they came out with another series for the second movie, with different characters. I wanted a Gimli one. But no, just for the first movie.

And yeah, I've got a shit-ton of A&W mugs, too.

I've got some of the old BK Star Wars glasses I picked up at a flea market, but I just use them for decoration in a shadow box.

I do remember the Tom and Jerry juice glasses, but I only ever had one - at the time my parents made their own jam and jelly, so I had to go out of my way to get one.


Although they weren't sculpted, or even branded, for years at Christmas time Arby's used to sell some fairly nice wine glasses of various designs. We used to have two or three different sets of four, but they got lost or discarded in one move or another, sadly. I might try to replace some of them at some point.

I used to have a bunch of the mcdonalds coke ones, but they broke over the years. I recall them being good to use a pair for making bloody marys.

I actually do want one now for souvenier. I found a 50th anniversary for Bugs Bunny in an Antique Shop once and honestly it made me smiled like a kid. I don't know why it does, might be because we all remember those good memories like the cups are supposed to bring about.

I'll admit, I'm a sucker for a cool looking glass, but it takes a bit more then a cool logo to draw me in. The glass itself has to have a cool design to it as well to get me to want to buy it, like the Flintstones mug. The way the mug is sculpted to look like it's carved from stone and the handle looks like it made from bones is rad. I mean, it is obviously plastic, but you gotta appreciate the extra mile they went for the design.

Nope, the Flintstones mug is actual glass, like the other examples I posted.

But yeah, the designs of the Flintstones mugs are really clever and cool.

I have, and still regularly use, that Batman mug. Most recent glassware promotion I can think of is back when the first of the new Star Trek movies came out, there was a four-glass set available at Burger King. Of course I got them all like a nerd. Fuck yeah.

Oh really, they had them for the 2009 Star Trek? That's way more recent than I would have expected, do you have any pics?

We had all of the Batman ones pictured in the OP when I was a kid, and my dad had a decent collection of the older ones from when he was younger.

Thinking back, they were pretty high quality considering where they came from. My family used them heavily for years.

I also had a full collection of the Dennis Rodman cups where his hair changed color when a cold drink was poured in. I miss the 90s.

I got rid of mine in the most recent move, but they were terrible.

They were simple screen-printed straight-walled glasses. There were four designs, like usual. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and Nemo.

On one side they had a frosted pane with a star trek delta cutout and a really, really crap low-res, low-color-depth image of whichever character, and then on the other side they had a crap promo still space scene with a ship or summat.

I got rid of mine in the most recent move, but they were terrible.

And apparently enough people actually collected these kinds of glasses that they aren't very valuable anyway. They were nearly worthless for actual use and broke like peanut brittle.

My Dad still has one of those Lord of the Rings goblets from the 2001 Burger King promotion.

Hell, I remember the Pocahontas glass that McDonalds had when the Disney movie came out in the 90's. The Disney ones were all plastic and I still have and use my Pocahontas glass to this day, although it's been used so often for the past two and a half decades that it's now just a dull clear plastic drinking glass that no longer has any of the Disney-related imagery on it. I'm not sure if they used decals or some sort of cheap acrylic paint, but it all eventually flaked away over the years.

I also liked the promos Burger King did that often tied into whatever the the tie-in of their Kids Meal toys was, such as the sunglasses they offered for Wild Wild West back in 1999 or cheap wristwatches they had for The Simpsons.

I really loved the Wild Wild West sunglasses. They had the old-school round circular lenses typical of the Victorian era. I know those kind of shades are considered cringe nowadays, but I was a kid at the time and this was in the late 90's after all. Back then, stuff like old-time sunglasses, fingerless gloves, long coats, and katanas were considered unironically cool. It wasn't until the second half of the 2000's that the clueless neckbeard crowd completely tainted those things by association.

Hell, I wore those shades all the time up until just before Ninth Grade when they got lost when we moved. They were surprisingly lightweight and comfy.

Hmm, I'm wondering if we can include Kids Meal toys in this thread as well? A lot of these fast food promotional items that were movie tie-ins would often also be the same movie that the kids meal toys were based on.

Ocassionaly movie theater chains like AMC will have these big soda cups that have little figures on top, i have one for justice league, civil war, and suicide squad. Probably the closest thing today to those promo cups

Anyone remember those jurassic park cups you get back then from mcdonalds? That was around the time jurassic park was so popular, I grew to love them since I was a massive dinosaur lover.

Sadly I lost them many years ago at my old grandmother's house back at the bronx around 2008. They were just like this, but I had the tyrannosaurus one.

Ta Da! It's good sturdy mug, made of thick glass, in the USA! says so on the bottom. The bone handle is smooth and faceted like a crystal while the rest is beautifully textured. Perfect for drinking ice-cold vodka and catching up on the farms.

Burger King did several runs of Simpsons merch, including one of the better ones for any fast food toy....

They're like 6-12" tall, varies a bit depending on the doll, with a plush body and a soft rubber/plastic head. They're actually pretty good quality. And the best thing is, they sold *so many of them* that you can still buy them today online for basically the same price... You can pick up mint, still-in-bag sets of the whole family for 20 bucks or less on ebay quite commonly.

I think a cousin of mine had that Bart Simpson doll.

The availability on Ebay reminds me of that limited edition "Spirit of Obi Wan" Kenner Star Wars figure from 1997 that could only be gotten back then by mailing in a thing from bags of Lay's potato chips, I bought a brand new one on Ebay for like 10 dollars.

Not as cool as the sculpted glasses in my opinion but still pretty cool.

When the movie ET came out, I believe Pizza Hut had promotional glasses similar to these. You could get one free with certain pizza orders, and additional ones from the set could be bought for a reasonable (at the time) price. I remember going out to pizza Hut with our cousins where we bought the whole set of four and each family took home two of the four. I'm not sure what exactly happened to ours; they likely broke over time or were sold at a garage sale when my mom decided we didn't need them any more.

The Arbys I frequent has a deal each fall where a meal bought with a 32 oz drink comes in a tumbler in the school colors of one of the two colleges in my state that have the biggest athletic rivalry. I'm not sure if Arbys tracks which tumbler sells the most during the promotional period but I imagine there's some sort of tie-in to support the schools in question and promote their football rivalry.

Ugh. I hate "see through" figures. They always look like shit.

That does remind me, though, and I'm showing my age a bit, but back in the 80s the LJN Thundercats figures... There was one figure, the de-powered version of Mumm-Ra, that you could only get by collecting points off other LJN Thundercats toys. Save up 6 points, send them in, get a free figure. I've still got mine kicking around somewhere, I've always held on to my Thundercats figures, always planned to... I dunno, put them in a shadow box or something. But I just checked on ebay, and to get one in good shape with the accessory included is like 30 bucks now. Which actually, for a mail-away figure from the mid 80s I suppose isn't too bad at all.

I forgot about these things. Last one I ever saw and only one I ever owned was the green McDonald's 2008 Beijing Olympics one. I remember them being everywhere back then.
