They can also unintentionally and "unintentionally" seriously injure other people, just by flailing around. If you don't see it coming, you can get cold-clocked or knocked over with the force of a quarterback.

I was one of those people blasted in the face by a sped. In high school, I was sitting in the bleachers doing homework when the sped class came walking through. One guy who probably had the mental capability of a toddler picked up a ball & pitched it straight into my face. Straight up Marcia Brady'd my ass. He also had a habit of getting free from his aides & chasing the normal kids, trying to punch them. The fucked up part is that he never got in trouble for being violent because "he wouldn't understand." So the safety of the other students was jeopardized all because of equality.

Get out your MOTI ratings everyone: I've said it once and I will say it again this tard worship needs to stop- especially when you put innocent people in the tard's intentional/unintentional war path. So what if they may not understand that what they are doing is wrong and hurts others? That's not a fucking excuse to let them run rampant and hurt innocent bystanders! If we can euthanize dogs that don't understand what they are doing and attack people, then why in Sweet Satan's Slippery Slit can't speds at least be sedated or restrained or institutionalized? Don't give me that 'they're hhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooomuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!1!!!!1!11" bullshit, you said it yourself that they don't know any better so why shouldn't we do something to at least minimize the damage you mouth-breathing every baby is a good baby bible-thumping but never read a fucking passage i like to fist my sister when i'm not doing meth fundies.

I know it sounds awful, but I've come to believe that any kid that mentally disabled should be aborted or euthanized shortly after birth. If the parent wants to be a tater warrior, they should have to foot the bill for the resources.

I'm with you there, especially when they are deformed to hell and back a la Hartley Horrors or that kid with edwards syndrome a few pages back on this thread. That ain't living, that's suffering.

Hearing all these american stories about tards being integrated with normal kids and having special privileges like they are kapos in a futuristic politically correct death camp is fascinating to me. Where I come from tards were segregated in their "special schools", and the very few that by some accident get to go to a normal school were kept at the bottom of the foodchain by a rational, responsible and taken for granted policy of all out bullying from day one.

I agree with the sentiment, but the 'tards that have enough gross motor function to actually be able to hurt other people (unlike actual potatoes that can rarely perform any motor function except seizing) might not be identifiable as such as newborns or young infants.

Unfortunately, the US has become SJW-Land. They can believe that everyone is equal & has the same potential given the same resources but that couldn't be further from the truth. Our society has traded common sense & rationality for inclusion for the sake of keeping everyone happy. It's ridiculous & actually does more harm than good. No one really benefits, but at least it keeps the tard-parents from continuously having their panties in a knot & threatening to sue.

The SJW have no care though towards what they are doing to either party.

I've worked in both public schools (pre- and post idea) and schools just for the disabled (which there are fewer and fewer now). Public schools when they had sped halls at least helped the special needs students, the way it is now they shove the child with an aide and it completely in some classes pulls down what the children can learn because the teacher ends up spending all their time wrangling a child the aide (who in public schools does not need as much training) may be unable to control. In the private schools, the students have vocab, and tons of classes catered to thier levels and I saw kids actually have a chance to grow there. Most of these type of schools also have behavoiral high schools so the students who are disruptive at that level but able to get a degree are able to in a theraputic environment.

A little bit of power leveling..

In the early 2000s, I transferred from a private school to a public high school. In the private school, I don’t recall there being a single student with mental disabilities. There were a handful of kids with physical disabilities who needed a walker or a wheelchair, but I don’t recall there being a single student with mental defects. When I transferred to high school, there were roughly 10 sped kids, some significantly worse than others. They pretty much all stayed together with the same aides & teachers all day so the only time they were really seen was at lunch or in between classes when they would sometimes switch classrooms. They were never integrated into neurotypical kids’ classes. It would’ve done them no good & made things significantly worse for the normal kids.

I don’t have kids so forgive my ignorance, but have public schools started mixing sped kids into normal classes? Idk how the fuck anyone would think that would be beneficial to anyone. Well, except the loud mouth, sped warrior parents who constantly cry “ThEy’Re JuSt LiKe AnY oThEr nOrMaL KiD!!!!!!” yet when it comes down to it, really want preferential treatment for their little spud.

Probably the only good thing I can say about Gwen Hartley is that she kept her brainless goblins out of mainstream school, although tons of resources have been wasted on every therapy under the sun that doesn’t have a chance in hell of being beneficial. I know one time Gwen had posted something about how a teacher/tutor comes over every week to homeschool. Someone posted a comment asking how the teacher came up with lesson plans & evaluated the girls’ mental capabilities. Gwen snapped back something along the lines of “She just knows! We don’t need a paper to tell us how awesome & smart they are!!” 🙄

I know they “mainstream” the most fucked-up, screaming, hand flapping autistic kids in the district where a relative teaches. The teachers maintain a very professional demeanor around the parents, but bitch up a storm about it in private. The aides don’t give a shit about the autist nor the normal kids, so don’t do their jobs properly. Of course, the speds move up a grade each year. Nobody wants to relive a school year-long nightmare.

ETA: The teachers make up acronyms for the speds such as CDS kids: Can’t Do Shit.

There is another mom in a group I belong to that has a kid who is pretty much a potato. Deprived of oxygen for 30 minutes causing severe damage. She posted pictures of the kid in dance class. A wheelchair bound quadriplegic who is non verbal in dance class.

was it spazing at the right times? And I'm guessing this a normal dance class? There are dance therapy groups for kids who seem to benefit in the class helps their movement but it is a sped class and then we have cow crossovers with the likes of
cz dance theroy.jpg

which I think is more mairead causing her patients mental harm than helping learn to control their bodies(could be wrong through happy to be corrected)

if a spazo joins a normal class for therapy reasons (due availbility issues/whatever) they shouldnt (but often do) expect to be the end of year show etc

I think it is a regular class. This mom is delusional. Talks about how the kid likes all the same stuff that she did before the brain damage. The child was 8 months old when it happened. Babies don't really have strong opinions on stuff. She apparently home schools and passes her on to the next grade.

It varies from state to state.

If you want to hear a personal story about what things were like right before mainstreaming became a thing in the USA, but after all the specialized schools and institutions were shuttered....

I’m old, in the 1990’s in the poor ass state I attended school, the truly retarded kids had their very own school to go to that was next to an elementary school but a totally separate building. Then in normal public school you had two groups of kids - Special Education (speds) with various learning disabilities and Behavioral Disorder (BD) kids. In elementary school these kids were bussed somewhere away from the my school, I just remember them waiting for another bus once they arrived at my school....and a teacher treating one of them for rat bites and stapling his fingers one morning.

However, the ancient building I attended 6th grade happened to be where the middle school aged BD and Sped kids were being bussed too. The BD kids were the legends in my middle school, just fucking crazy (probably due to abusive horrible parenting). The sixth grade building was a three story square structure. The middle of the building had a sealed off room on each floor, no windows and one entrance, where the "BD and SPED" kids went, each one on their own separate floor.

We would hear screaming and all sorts of crazy shit emitting from the BD room. It was the thunderdome. Occasionally a screaming kid would escape are cause all sorts of havoc. One managed to send four huge bookshelves, full of books, to the ground before he was recaptured. All the teachers in normal classrooms on the BD floor had special locks on inside of their doors to secure their classrooms just in case a BD kid escaped and went nuclear. There was almost no interaction between the average school kids and the BD and SPED kids. We saw more of the SPED kids - the less severe ones could attend gym and arts classes with us if they were well behaved - but BD kids were totally kept separate and not to be trusted in less restrictive environments.

Before this era disabled/retarded kids were sent to state funded institutions that helped care for them. In the early and mid 1900's there was a huge system of specialized schools in the USA. Some taught blind kids, some taught deaf kids, there were ones for "feeble minded" kids and reform and industrial schools for the "BD kids." Most of these places started getting shut down in the 1960's and 70's under various reforms, so it meant the public schools had to start making room for them and there was no real plan in place to do so. (Very similar to how all our govt funded mental hospitals started getting such down for some non-existent community integration shit that just resulted in lots of mentally ill people on the streets and in jails.)

I think the biggest problem became the huge increase in autism Dx. When I was a kid there was a joke about autism vs. retarded kids. The joke amounted to poor parents had retarded kids and rich/middle class parents had autistic kids. Autism became a new label for many kids that would have previously been labeled retarded decades before.

The USA school system was certainly not prepared to deal with the huge uptick in autistic kids and the vast spectrum of autism makes it very difficult to find institutional solutions for because the abilities and disabilities of autistic kids vary so widely. Some autistic kids will be high achieving academics in AP classes, others can't even talk and hit people. The huge increase in autism Dx happened right as the whole "mainstreaming" thing was being put into practice. In fact, I think it was the first wave of autism parents that got the mainstreaming policy put into place for all kids. Early ideas about mainstreaming were meant more for kids with physical disabilities and medical conditions - and I totally agree with that. A kid who's only issue is a physical disability should attend school along side everyone else. But trying to force autistic kids who have severe sensory and behavior issues to learn along side normal peers is fucking stupid - bad for both the autistic and the average kids.

A large part of the push for mainstreaming seemed to about upper middle class parents getting angry about their autistic kid being labeled and placed in sped classes and schools. "How dare the white trash kids from the trailer parks or black kids from the housing projects, be placed in regular classes and my child be put in the sped class!" The fact that one of the biggest explosions in autism Dx occurred in wealthy enclaves of California really added fuel to the fire - these were parents who had the money, connections and means to force their opinions into govt policy, regardless of its actual merits.

Many of these parents seemed more concerned with social stigma than education or reality. They seemed upset their money couldn't buy their kids a way off the short bus so they just got rid of the short bus.

Kind of a PL: as someone with the tisms who was in So Cal's shit-tacular education system from K-6, I can confirm it fucks everyone other except for the tard warrior parents and it especially fucks over the autists all for the sake of social stigma and keeping up appearances instead of doing what's actually best for everyone. TL;DR California's education system is beyond fucked because of affluent potato parents.

Just like everything in California. Not surprising.
For some reason I thought you were a bong for the longest time.

PL: in my experience Sped classes are basically just daycare, and alternative schools are just babysitting centers for problem kids. Also most sped teachers are at best patronizing assholes with savior complexes, and at worst abusers who know people generally aren't going to know or care about sped kids getting abused. For kids who are actually capable of some shit, it's pretty awful and generally results in them just rotting away in the system (or even getting sucked into the school to prison pipeline, especially with BD kids).

On the subject of BD kids, pretty much all them are kids of average intelligence who've been through or are still experiencing horrific abuse. Lots of kids react to abuse by acting out and loosing their shit, because they're kids and their brains can't deal with shit like adults can. But instead of treating the real problem, the kids just get warhoused and slapped with various labels and effectively blamed for the abuse they suffer. It's really sad and fucked up.

I can understand the issues with putting seriously disabled kids in regular ed classes, but the sped system is pretty fucked up too. It's a complex situation where there aren't many easy answers.

It depends on the school the best one i worked at parents paid or got grant for 30k a year. Those kids all got differentiated education and voc training. but ive left some that merely left them in a chair and played on their phones. Really seems to be based on how jaded the people became or what the school felt their funding was worth.

PL: an alternative school I got sent to was using health textbooks from the 80's in the early-mid 00's. The "teaching" was just telling the kids to read a section of the textbooks and answer the questions at the end at best. This was a supposedly decent school district to.

I think my favorite anecdote though is one of the sped teachers I had back in the day getting fired for putting a kid in a garbage can. That shut actually made national news iirc.

I went to elementary school in the 90's. Four of my five years had kids that were "different", I didn't figure out it was autism until sometime I was in high school. Back then you weren't allowed to ask what was up with them, but in retrospect once people really started talking about it became quite obvious. They weren't low functioning speds or potatoes, but they did have to have special supplementary lessons three times a week. They were genuinely higher functioning, but only one had the capability to maybe pass as normal someday.

It's worth mentioning that I went to a small school district in a state with a very low population, so there was unlikely to have been a very large population of higher functioning autistics attending school alongside me. I think it was just dumb luck I happened to have one of them in my class four times. One was a previous classmate a second time.
