It doesn't seem like we can discount that Jacob may have some scheme in mind.

His entire way of acting is very meta with his posting of his shrines to Chris, screencaps of discord conversations, and so on. He's aware that we're getting a kick out of this and that he's being watched. There's a performative aspect of his insanity and autism that's hard to accept as being completely authentic.

I say it is zero percent authentic. Sockness wants a playmate, and this is an easy way for him to get one who will do whatever he wants.
