Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

I'm gonna be honest, I miss the days of comedy and satire in the pre-Trump era.

I know it's a common complaint, and while the 2010's has seen great comedians replaced by untalented and unfunny hacks (Trevor Noah being the most odious example) we've also seen guys who were actually funny being crippled by TDS

Stephen Colbert and John Oliver are among the most famous examples.

Before Trump, I used to love Last Week Tonight but it has been in steady decline since the 2017 season.

Now I can't even watch it anymore.

The only liberal comedian I can still watch in the post-Trump era is Bill Maher.

Yes, really.

Bill Maher is a typical smug coastal liberal and he has severe TDS, but he's a little more tolerable than hacks like Trevor Noah or Samantha Bee.

It helps that Maher is one of the few liberals who is anti-SJW and is critical of Antifa. Not as critical as he should be, but at least he's willing to denounce and criticize the woke crowd. Unlike most of the liberal atheists of the 2000's, Bill did not suddenly become an Islamophile.

And unlike all the other smug liberals, Bill Maher accurately predicted Trump's win in 2016 (as did Michael Moore) and allows actual opposition on his show as guests. To be honest, the guests are the best part of the show.

As awful as it is that Bill Maher wished for another recession in 2020, at least he can accept how fucked the Democrats are in 2020 unless something actually major were to happen.

The only way I can see Democrats winning in 2020 is if Trump makes a fuck up so big that he can't fix or if the Democrats talk about anything other than Trump

Bush and chocolate Jesus were both reelected in the middle of two wars and a recession. It takes a lot to unseat a sitting incumbent president.

Dems are fucked.

It's also cause both Bush and Obama were charismatic leaders while their re-election opponents were just sperging about how Bush/Obama were worse than them. The last one term presidents we had were Carter and Bush Sr. who were booted out for mostly having opponents who had a message of hope for the nation or had more charisma. While there were other factors that could be argued, the fact of Reagan and Bill Clinton respectively having more charisma than their opponents is still a major factors in their victories.

EDIT: Charismatic leaders don't mean they were good as I hated both Bush Jr. and Obama.

True, but part of why Bush was able to get reelected in 2004 because 9/11 was still relatively fresh in people's minds back then and that helped get him reelected.

Also, Bush and Obama were able to get reelected fairly easily because Kerry and Romney were weak candidates who had no real platform outside of "not being the other guy"

So yeah, you are correct in your assessments. The Democrats are royally fucked in 2020.

All of the viable candidates run on platforms that are either batshit insane SJW pandering, some variant of "I'm not the other guy", or a combination of the two.

The only candidates in 2020 who could actually get the nomination are Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and maybe Pete Buttigieg (although I think he's more likely to end up as a running mate to Harris or Warren) and not one of these candidates have any charisma nor do they have an appealing platform.

Barring a really nasty freak October Surprise such as a major war or Great Recession 2: Stock Market Boogaloo, Trump has the edge right now.

He's an incumbent who is presiding over a fairly stable economy and he hasn't gotten us involved in any new wars. Any of those things is a major advantage by itself.

Even with TDS and the active efforts of the MSM and Silicon Valley against him, Trump has the odds on his side.

But anything can happen between now and November 2020, so I'm not going to make any real predictions just yet.

Trevor is interesting and well-spoken, but in his own wheelhouse, which is South Africa. He was a weird choice to lead a show about American politics but he grew up in a literal one-room tin shack, so... he wouldn't turn that money down. I actually really recommend his book "Born a Crime" because it's super, super fucked up and makes it really apparent that his Daily Show routine is just a routine- he reads what the writers give him.

True, and I get the feeling that Trevor Noah being Jon Stewart's replacement was more of a decision made by the Comedy Central network execs than anything close to what Stewart would have wanted.

I personally think the Dems elite have given up on 2020. The champagne socialists still don't understand why they lost, but they understand that their usual playbook is useless against Trump, much to their frustration. They're just going to do the bare minimum to save face waiting for 2024 and Trump-less elections.

I would love love love to see a Harris/BootEdgeEdge ticket.

Between them and Trump/Pence, Mike Pence probably has the highest approval from black people out of the four.

@Syaoran Li

There's a reason the left has tried quietly, but forcefully, to get rid of Mahr, he's too centrist for them, only hoping for a economic meltdown that gets Trump kicked out by unpopularity, not the wet dream of impeachment followed by public flogging..... and then the legalization of hunting suspected Proud Boys for sport....

The fact he's the only leftist that still remains funny is no coincidence, he's not dumb, he knows gnashing your teeth is not productive, he wont' go full TDS, and for that, he's a pariah.

I mean, I agree with vritually nothing the man says on a political level, but I still get a chuckle out of his pro-pot jokes from the 90's - "According to the government, there's more risk in smoking pot every day than eating bacon... smoking pot doesn't produce a byproduct your Mom would scold you for dumping down the sink. I propose an experiment where we give a man nothing but bacon for a month, and another one nothing but pot for a month. I submit that you'd find the man who ate nothing but bacon.... would get to work on time...."

Satire from the left has been dead since 2008 when all the galaxy brains cucked out for Obama - "We can't make fun of a black man!". Even Colbert's schtick ran thin after 2009 when you have economy melting down and Obama giving banks free money for their fuck up, and absolutely nothing bad said about Obama.

What's really tragedic is Poe's law has made it such that I can't enjoy anything anti-Trump because its all smacking of the same deranged talking screeching points. Too many times i gave it a shot and what might have been a promising build up just devolves into the same formula.
"Orange man said a thing! Can you believe what Orange Man said? ORANGE MAN SAID IT, and people DON'T BELIEVE THE SAME THINGS I DO." *pause for laughter*

God Emperor joking aside, I don't think Trump is above criticism, skewering, or mockery. But you have shit like "Baby Trump" balloon - why? Why is it baby Trump? There's nothing he's said or done that would make this a relevant insult. "Well, um, he's imature", sure but his opposition has literally cried in public.
I would LOVE to see "Gordon Gecko in the white hourse". God that could have been fucking amazing - just straight up parody Trump's election with a 80's corporate raider in the Oval office. It's Wall Street III: Pennsylvania Avenue.
But you can't do that because even the scummiest raider has positive character traits, and you can't be seen giving even damning praise to the opposition.
So instead you have this shit on a comedy program

Comedy should be making fun of people doing something as fucktarded as putting this as the openning to a comedy program.

This thread has done better Trump satire.
I.e. TRUMP: I am the god-emperor.
RICH EVANS: You're in my seat.

Could you imagine a sketch of "if Hitler was Trump"?

"Why do so many Jews keep coming to Germany?"
"We're gonna build a wall, and make Russia pay for it."
"The treaty of Versailles was the worst treaty. I'm going to get us a better one."
Etc

As far as I'm concerned, comedy died pretty much the moment the Chapelle Show ended and was pretty much finished off once Obama set foot in office. Comedy/satire since has just been a disguise the Left has worn to bash the right without impunity.

I used to be very liberal and I find myself longing for the way things used to be as well.

But the trouble is looking back the things I hate about the left now were always there to some degree even in the "good old days", it was just better hidden, more below the surface, there's been less change for the left and more the mask slipping off and revealing what they always were deep down inside.

But yeah, it sucks when people you used to be a fan of or online communities you used to enjoy being a part of become intolerably toxic.
