Karlene: "I got slammed on Twitter for going way too easy on Jessica Yaniv" and she included his deadname. OH SHIT. She's going through his old racist Facebook posts and mentioned the tampons. Sounds like she actually read some of the shit people linked her to. Jonathan is called in. He admits to the racism right away but denies the tampon stuff. (editing note: he consistently denies any sexual shit was him, but owns being a big fat racist. on FBook or whereever)
Karlene defending Lindsay Shepherd here - "Why would you attack a woman's genitalia on social media?" Jonathan tries to interrupt her but Karlene's not as easy to talk over as respondents at the HRT.
Paraphrasing Jonathan: "The JCCF says I'm getting a brozilian and that's misgendering me" the logic lmao
Karlene: "You ought to apologize to the immigrant community... Talking about immigrants being dirty, talking derogatory about immigrants - that's disgraceful"

Guy called in, talked about how the government compelling people to touch genitalia is like sexual assault - Karlene backs off that point a bit. He adds that Jon has a pattern of boundary violations, which she agrees with. You are automatically presumed to be guilty from the get-go."
Jay says that having an HRT case open against you in today's climate is almost worse than criminal court - being accused of being a bigot or a transphobic person has social stigma. Mentions the 26 lawyers dismissing one respondent. "Many lawyers don't want to touch these types of cases... In some ways it's like having a conviction." Karlene mentions covering a case where a Burlington business owner once told a man not to smoke a joint in his restaurant and was taken to Ontario's HRT for huge $ prior to blanket non-smoking laws. Jay summarizes the dismissed complaints (the ones available on the BCHRT website) and suggests that dropping a supposedly serious human rights complaint shows questionable intent. Jay gets to elevator-pitch the JCCF's non-denominational mission of protecting constitutional rights.

Well would you look at that, I told you guys, the CBC is an aggregator and here they are aggregating now that Canadian media has picked it up. Good news, I was wondering how long it would take. Not long apparently. They're still on the Lindsay Shepherd angle but I expect we'll hear more soon. The CBC does not do this kind of investigative reporting. It is mostly funded by the government which means for it's size, it's actually working with a relatively small budget. It's goal is to bring news about the country to the country so it does that by aggregating the news of the day. Cheaply. It's still the most seen news outlet, however. For real though, we are never going to get a juicy expose attack piece from a major news outlet. I don't know what you all expect but all of these major media outlets are going to be dry and serious about the issue and attempt not to appear to be taking a side.
As far as the tribunal, as WG Kitty mentioned once, it's not entirely a terrible idea to have the tribunal and a lot of Canadians agree with it. The problem is with execution because I really don't think it was built to protect itself against this kind of litigious fuckery. But at its core, it's meant for low level workers who find themselves fucked over for human rights reasons. Which actually happens all the time. Someone's boss is constantly going off about the chingchong people and picking on the one Asian worker who eventually gets hauled into the office over some perceived "chingchong" issue and summarily fired. Or the person is gay or the person is disabled, etc. etc. It actually does happen with alarming frequency. These workers tend to be very vulnerable and getting heard in a regular court is not feasible for various reasons. Financial cost mainly, but not just the dollar value of a lawyer that is good enough to match the corporate lawyer their former boss will bring. There is also the fact that the individual is now unemployed and needs to get back to work immediately. They have pressing survival issues that supercede their own "justice" in that moment. Truth is, few people who could/should actually use the tribunal. Most of the time this stuff just happens with no recourse.
Canada is kind of cucked in a number of ways, I'll admit. Mainly that they create these avenues for vulnerable people to easily access the legal system, but they don't build in any goddamned checks or balances because I guess they didn't factor in crazy abusive assholes. Which is really strange because crazy abusive assholes are the entire reason the tribunal exists in the first place. It's a solution to a known problem but maybe not the best solution. How do you ensure that low income, vulnerable people do not get legally taken advantage of by those with resources and lawyers on retainer? I'm not sure but the tribunal is one answer. It may be fucked up in practice but at least someone tried. Again, I'm not even sure it's the wrong answer entirely but it certainly needs overhaul. The point is to attempt to blind justice. Does it work? Not always but remember the bad stories are the ones we hear. It does do good for people with real problems too.

Jon's claimed a few of the HRT cases were about arm or leg waxing, but all of those cases involved women who would be going to his home to provide service, and it's very obviously the case that they didn't feel comfortable going to a strange man's home alone. Which is a perfectly reasonable desire - they would be putting themselves in danger ffs.

I've been following this thread from the start and I don't remember seeing anything about arm or leg waxing. Granted, I may have missed something in all the lunacy, but it wouldn't shock me if he was exaggerating or leaving something out to sound more sympathetic to his remaining asspatters.

Also, I like how he says "There's quite an argument I have for this but I can't post it at this time." To me, that reads as: "Oh, shit, I wasn't expecting anyone to call me out on that part, I need time to come up with something."
