Oh boy, are you guys ready for a Mask reboot!

I don't even feel annoyed at any of these reboots anymore, I'm just sort of apathetic.

At the very least it sounds like one of/the creator of the character is involved and its him showing interest in approaching this rather than solely a studio. If this were purely a studio thing than it would be very easy to chalk it up to the group that saw it as kids are now parents, so they then bring their kids to "share the experience" from the marketing perspective. I have no connection to the original or the comics though so it just seems par for the course of reboots and rehashes.

There's was that remake of Judge Dredd. That was pretty good.
 
Wasn't the whole charm of the movie that Jim Carrey's a lanky-ass motherfucker who can move like he's - appropriately - possessed?

Here's an overview of the comic for people who want to know.
It was a guy who wore the mask first and he loved the freedom it gives him as he uses it to kill people he held a grudge against, but eventually the line between him and his self with the mask on began to blur since the mask doesn't actually put stuff in your head you it just removes inhibitions. It's like a real mask in that way. The guy then gets killed by the woman he had stolen the mask from, and the woman gives it to a detective who puts it on and starts killing crime lords. The mask corrupts him and he becomes progressively more violent. Eventually he comes across a huge muscular man named Walter who doesn't feel pain and is the only person who can really cause him any trouble.
The detective almost kills his friend and partner while wearing the mask, and traumatized he takes it off and encases it in cement in his basement.

In the followup, The Mask Returns, the mask is recovered from the concrete and a criminal puts it on and becomes a crime lord. The woman, realizing what was happening, poses as a hooker and convinces the criminal to take the mask off. He does, and the woman pulls out a gun and shoots him before he can put it back on. She then puts on the mask and starts killing crime lords and is targeting the top crime lord until she comes across Walter who was hired as protection. They fight, but nothing really comes of it. The woman tosses the mask to Walter, but he expresses no interest in it. That big crime lord runs both of them over with a car and they end up in the docks.

After that second comic the movie was made.

There are many aspects of the comic that see a 1 to 1 recreation in the movie.

Meh. I don't care about the Mask. Didn't even know about the comic before reading this thread. Learn new things every day.
When they grow a pair of balls and try to remake something like Schindlers List, then I'll watch the shitshow. Or maybe, God forbid of course, that a studio makes something original.

IIRC he tries to put it on but it doesn't fit. He's too much of an absolute unit for the mask.

Edit: Went to his character page on a wiki, it just has no effect on him. He might not have any active inhibitions to begin with, so the mask can't do anything for him. Or maybe the mask recognizes him as an enemy and just refuses to work. I dunno.
