I really don't get the fence argument, it wasn't Trumps idea for the fence, those were the requirements given to the contractors, and they provided their prototypes, it needed to allow wildlife through, it needed to not impede shortwave radio communication for border patrol. It's like people expected it to be 10 feet deep and made of lead. The fact it was even built at all was amazing since the dems absolutely do not want Trump to be able to say he did anything. You have to make concessions, you have to make deals, otherwise you have to set up a dictatorship to do exactly what you want.

Its a disaster right now. Morale is low amongst the old guard, the community has sustained some structural fractures recently. We're losing content creators, including me. But I believe in the premise of Voat, and think we have a duty to support free speech outlets.

Unfortunately, places like Voat where there aren't any restrictions on speech tend to become magnets for very hateful people who have banned from basically every other platform. That's simply because people who don't regularly spout hate speech haven't been banned from places and therefore have no desire to migrate to a new platform (I know there are outliers, but they're not the majority). I don't think it's impossible to have a platform that's entirely dedicated to free speech without any restrictions that doesn't turn into a hellscape, but I think it's very difficult.

Supporting free speech is very admirable, but personally I just can't defend actual neo-Nazis, incels, white supremacists (or any supremacists, for that matter) even under the banner of free speech. Defending those people is not the hill I want to die on. I don't think that they should be arrested or face government persecution, but I also don't think social media is obligated to provide a platform for them.
