I have more sympathy for those who feel sad over his death than those who try to profit off it, or those who just shit on him because he's "a black nigger who ate watermelon on stream" or whatever. I understand. I don't know weather the way he treated his fans and people were part of his illness, however if it wasn't, it is a flawed part of him. Although with all this information, and compared to others, I don't think Etika was a totally terrible person, but rather a person with flaws, and the suicide baiting and meltdowns (in hindsight) could be seen more as a cry for help then outright attention seeking. I think ReviewTechUSA (as much as he is a lolcow) made this point perfectly.


Now that you mention his fans, a lot of them may be saying "RIP ETIKA" and stuff, but they failed to do what they should have done months ago. That was to criticize Etika. I'm not saying insulting him or anything like that, but I mean telling Etika to get his shit sorted out, and that he is not a god. Instead of doing this, the fans played into his delusions. They aren't to blame for Etika's tragic passing, but still.

This. All of these people want to find a culprit for his problems instead of just accepting the fact he wasn't okay in the head. Even if he got help, he wouldn't be able to handle his fanbase. That's what happens when you make yourself a funny guy 24/7 and don't make a distinction between your persona and your real self -- your audience won't know if you're joking or being serious, and the audience shouldn't be at fault for when they're wrong. If he went to the loony bin and came back and was still listening to the fans' bs, is that their fault or his?
When you go on the internet you need to be able to handle the toxins. Yeah people shouldn't be doing the dumb shit his fans did (calling him a god and all), but all-in-all it falls on his shoulders and no one else's to be the bigger person and distance from that. His family and friends could only do so much: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.
What people really should be taking from this is to call out the cows that are making it all about themselves. That's some screwed moralfagging when you go for the people making jokes instead of the ones making the suicide all about them.

He was admitted into an institution, but that didn't last long. Not to mention, as @Diabeetus stated throughout this thread, Etika made the situation at Best murky, and at worst really hard to take him seriously.

I think there's justifiable reasoning to hate Jaystation's video, the morale-grandstanding is just the cherry on top of his shit.

No regular person can look at Etika getting detained on a livestream and saying "I'd suck your dick, Sergeant" and just say "Oh yeah, that's a cry for help, poor fucking boy". I can't stress enough how hard it was to take Etika's 'cries for help' seriously.

Dude, this is a bad take. At least the first part of this response. As I said before, the more people think this was an attempt at garnering pity and not mental illness, the more people can expect tragedies like this.

Maybe a degree that never saw any real world use, a photo album, post cards for a country they never got to visit, some favorite personal items, shit like that.

Also, you seem to be underestimating the scale of the Manhattan Bridge, this is not an overpass crossing a stream, jumping from the walkway is the equivalent of a skyscraper jump, it serves absolutely no purpose other than to effect a suicide.

The mere half width of the river's width alone is a challenge for an ordinary person to swim across under optimal conditions, and to even be over the water when you jump, you have to walk out far enough to the bridge that you're at the most un-survivable height possible since about two thirds of the bridge span is actually above LAND rather than water.

It was on purpose.

Do youtubers go through a lot of stress? Probably. But it's a choice they made to go through that 'career choice', And not to mention, Etika threw EVERYTHING away - His channel, his clout, practically his fanbase.
