Lol if the police are now involved and this is a prank he's going to get his ass beaten legally.

Smolett only got his wrist slapped in the first round because people in power tried to cover for him, but this youtuber is a literal who and is also wasting resourcing of the NYPD who are the best funded and connected police force in the world.
Smollett did nothing wrong lol calm down

There are many cities filled with facial recognition. London, Amsterdam and Berlin at the very least. Hell, Beijing has facial recognition in that massive city. Amsterdam is even replacing most camera's with voice recognition. The wrong words (boom, terror, kidnapping, kill, death, missile, IED, etc) will alert a guy that can send Marechaussee. Where Etika lives I promise you they can follow him everywhere they want except for maybe a few blind spots.

Surveillance is very advanced. They can find him if they want to. Unless Etika took precautions and does not want to be found. Take bright white sneakers, big gaudy coloured logo shirt and other clothes that will be easily followed on camera, backpack inside plastic bag, go out as Etika, travel 1 direction, find a place where nobody could possibly be watching you, shave head, put on other very bland generic clothes, change direction, put on the really dark skiing sunglasses or the present everywhere Rayban Aviator copshades, a cap, and there you go.

He could have done it if he thought about it. If he did think about it to the point camera's will lose him I doubt he was off his rocker at that time, which means it sort of was a suicide threat and not an attempt I think. Assuming they took out the time to even let the computer look for his face in all of the footage, such queries do not take just 1 minute and there are likely other people they want to find first, like that serial rapist suspect or arsonist that killed a family of 5.
You don't seem to fully get how video surveillance works, or how expensive the process you described is.

More like without anyone giving a shit.

The only ones I think are even plausible are 1 and 3. He's either become an hero or he's faked becoming an hero to run away with his cult. I'm about 95% it's the former. I hope they find his body soon just so everyone can stop speculating/wigging out. Catching a body in a river that size is no small task, though.
There was some talk that his apartment was burglarized after he went AWOL, so 4 might be plausible if that's the case.

If that's true, the idea of him being so far gone that he threw open the door and stormed off, leaving it to be robbed either means that he's underwater or he doesn't want to come back to the eceleb thing.

As far as I know, Etika only ever mentioned this cult in passing, with some autists assuming he was a member of it. He never seemed to dwell on it in particular, though a lot of the bullshit narratives he weaved remind people of said cult.

Even during the "Mental Breakdown" saga, he was still mostly about reacting like an idiot to shit on the internet. Most of them video game-related.

He mentioned in a video that he donated money to them for years
Edit:

Not sure how legitimate this is but safety alert app, "Citizen", has reported that the police and firefighters (?) are en route to investigate a "man in East River." Might just be my fried brain not working but I find it difficult to discern what was posted when from this Twitter thread.

It was proven to be a false alarm.
