Phil: Ya sub of 1-2 years just fuck off if you don't like me
Also Phil: I'm really tight this month guys...I need that money...to pay my bills!

BomberHarrisDoltAgain: People need to shut their dirty, lying mouths and enjoy the stream. Our patience has it's limits!

How do they think they can angrily shout at others to enjoy themselves under threat of being banned otherwise?

Darksydephil: You better enjoy yourselves you fucking losers. I'm putting on an enteraining stream here you pieces of human garbage. If I catch any of you fuckers not contributing or turning against me in chat, you will get moderated. What use are you annoying shits to me but to feed my ego and ensure I can continue to live as a king free from the drudgery of working a normal job or facing the consequences for my actions? Get it into your thick skulls you faggot disabled pieces of human refuge that you owe me.

Darksydephil: Oh the keyboard was on.

DSP will talk about some of the "negative shit behind the scenes" in a moment.

'Tuesday I will begin my playthrough of A Plage Tale, IF I can afford it, which we'll talk about in just a moment. I want to stay positive today and not really focus on negative shit behind the scenes, but sadly there is a lot of negative shit going on with me behind the scenes that I don't really want to talk about publicly. Basically it affects my ability to afford stuff and buy games, and it just sucks right now. But we'll talk about that in a moment.'

-edit- Ehm... it's 45 minutes later, and he just started to play the game. Didn't talk about it at all. :|

This would be perfectly fine if that was his stance, but fucking mushmouth cant enunciate his words to properly convey that. He always comes off as "if you get the game early by any means, you're a corporate cocksucker trying to give the game a gratuitous metaphorical blowjob so you can keep getting games ahead of everyone else"

It basically is his stance, though. Again, I understand where you're coming from, but even when you consider State of Decay 2 and DS3, he didn't get those games early from the publisher, he paid for early access for one and exploited a region loophole for the other. With FO4 I think he just got it for free from Machinima, I don't think he played it early. You can give him shit for playing them early to drum up hype for himself or to try and bring in eyes since he's part of a more limited set of streamers. You even made the argument yourself with the whole "so you can keep getting games ahead of everyone else" bit at the end. You put it in the context yourself of people getting games early from publishers to drum up hype (being a shill). This is consistent with his arguments. His past transgressions of accessing things early for his own benefit are not consistent with his arguments and much better material since you can't really be a shill for something if you have to spend more money to access it.

The problem with what you're saying is that Phil's main argument when he says "everyone else is a shill" is that he's the down to earth average gamer just like you dood, no just ignore that he gets gifts from fans, thousands of dollars for playing video games, and in this case early access due to his fanbase, No nothing to see here, he's just a regular gamer and everyone else isn't a regular gamer so you should watch him.

Also worth noting that when a game is new Phil will go easy on it in a very obvious attempt to gain more viewers (There are many examples, most obvious being the whole Shadow of War thing where he praised the game to high hell at first claiming everyone was wrong about the grind until he hit the end game grind. More recently you can look to his trying to hype Rage 2 and complaining about reviews saying it's short) before he hits something he doesn't like in the late game and then unabashedly shits on it because he realizes it's not bringing in new viewers (or if tips get low, DSP gets pretty salty when tips are low).

Getting shit from fans, getting paid to stream, and, again, getting shit from fans don't work into him being a shill, which is what his complaint is. He's not getting kick backs from the publisher to play the game early (or even at all), and he can't really be a shill. What he is doing, though, is "hopping on a trend" or "playing something early access" as a sell out to the hot new thing in an attempt to bring in more viewers. This is not being a shill, this is hopping on trends. Your argument is good leverage, but misapplied.

I don't see how the second paragraph has anything to do with this. How the fuck does going easy on a game bring in more viewers when the only way you'd know he was going easy on a game is if you were already watching? He has basically no circulation on social media and his opinion on games is entirely irrelevant. The only thing these incidents say is that he's often too quick to judge, but that's got nothing to do with him being a "shill".

In summation, all this "he's a shill because he's playing a game early" doesn't really work out, because he's not getting anything from the publisher. With playing a game early he has access to he's guilty of hopping on a new trend, not being a shill.

DSP will talk about some of the "negative stuff happening behind the scenes" in a moment.

I listened to most of the Pre-Stream to catch what this "behind the scenes" negativity is. Unfortunately, besides the content ID claim that he needed to "vent" about, nothing else was mentioned, besides that he "got some bad news a couple days ago."

I'll post what I did hear:

The majority of the Pre-Stream is dedicated to a long rant about Youtube's "broken" automated content ID system having claimed his Sonic Team Racing video for a Morning Show in Denmark. He's now considering abandoning the game, despite having only put up the first part "archived over there on Youtube": "I'm kinda screwed now with this playthrough".

In a whiny voice, Phil puts words in the mouth of the Apex Legends composer who "erroneously tried to defend" the content ID system (Phil repeatedly uses the word "erroneously" throughout this rant).

The wheelchair bound Rob throws Phil $25 for this tirade.

He still relies on Youtube to pay his bills. But it only makes up a "very small percentile" of his income. Which is about "25-30%". The reason for this "very small percentile" is of course because Youtube "lost most of its advertisers", not because his own unremarkable content, a near infinite amount of competition, etc.

Ending his rant, he leaves to blow his nose.

His returns for his "Plugs segment". Going through his spiel, Phil mentions that he "only sold two things" from his statue collection. So, with the Portal replica gun counting as a "statue", there must have been another sale.

Did you not even read my post? His whole "they're shills" thing is part of his whole "I'm just a regular gamer like you" line which is blatantly bullshit and that is what I was pointing out. I never said he was a shill, I said he wasn't the average gamer by anyone's measure. Also DSP himself says "they may not get paid by the company but they're getting paid by the fans to play it early so they're still shills" so by DSP's own definition he is a shill...

"How the fuck does going easy on a game bring in more viewers when the only way you'd know he was going easy on a game is if you were already watching?"
Ask DSP, but he still does it, as shown in the examples I gave in my post. He isn't too quick to judge, if you observe his pattern he'll try and stay "positive" about a big new release, it likely doesn't bring in new viewers (and he may also be doing it to get more "interaction"), but when people shit on the game DSP will get defensive. He does this with every "big" game. The only exceptions are games that kick his ass early on (which in this modern age of easy as fuck games isn't a lot of them).

"I don't see Youtube as ever being a reliable business ever again. Thank god I put my eggs in another basket!"

Literally taking all your eggs from one basket and putting it into another and taking whatever drippings are left from Youtube CPM and Patreon crowdfunding. (How many are people that forgot they hooked an umbilical cord to Phil?)

Phil also went against the grain from the Twitch TOS narrative and took a little piss on the SJW Battlefield 5 Devs Wednesday night. I'd be really surprised if someone didn't reach out to him 'concerned' about his recent 'dialogue'. I still think deep down inside is the 'chinky chang wang chinky chang get back in the kitchen bitch' humor in him, but he's got to keep that mouth muzzled if he doesn't want to get checked by his last hope of income.

It's also probably obvious to others but his 'archive' is just a pay pig sales funnel to Twitch. I always thought it was super fucking annoying how he'd reexplain a 20 minute story 30 minutes later for a cheer until you realize a new youtube video started and he's consciously trying to get new people in on the FUN. That's about all the effort he's put into growing this business besides commissioning MS paint frahgs.

Yeah, I read it, and my point stands, dude.

shilldefinition.png

A shill is a specific thing, not just someone who gets shit for free. I don't give a shit what Phil's definition of a shill is. If you're going to use the "getitng it early to make money" thing as an argument, you don't call him a shill over it, he's something else entirely. Post an entry of him calling people shills who play shit early in the other thread if it bothers you, but that's not what a shill is. There's plenty of people who record footage of themselves playing and eventually get it monetized. That doesn't automatically make them different from a "regular gaymer" or whatever weird designation they're being given. The whole "average joe gamer" thing he pushes is that he doesn't get corporate kickbacks for playing, which he doesn't. The money he makes you might feel is undeserved, but you can't fault the dude for making money off of something if he has the capacity to.

And the second paragraph is more of the same of not applying at all to my argument. Talking about him playing games early, whether he receives them from publishers or not, not his opinion on games early on. This has no bearing at all.

Anyway, this is a pointless slap fight, but your arguments are trash.

There are real examples of Phil being a paid shill. His 1Up box videos are a perfect example. They were an inferior lootbox service that sent out cheap dollar store garbage. They used Chinese rip off superhero and video game characters to avoid using real licensed ones. He would tell viewers how cool all the crap was and tell them to subscribe to 1Up box so he could get a kickback. "It's really cool how they use these original custom characters to avoid paying for a license!" No, that is not cool. That is a lie. He made untrue statements to sell an inferior product for personal gain. He was a paid shill.

He also shilled those gamer chairs. He raved about how cool and great they were despite never having sat in one. Again he made untrue statements to sell products for personal gain.

Playing a game early might not make him a shill, but there are examples of him shilling products and being a shady salesman.

See, there ya go. That makes him a shill. This is the shit I'm talking about with good vs. bad arguments. This is a good argument. Those other ones are bad arguments.

Paying extra to play State of Decay 2 does not. Exploiting a region code error with DS3 does not. Getting a code for the Nioh 2 alpha does not. Those things do.

Is his new vague 'financial issue' begging working? At a casual glance it looks like hes been getting more money the last couple weeks than the couple months before.

In short, not really. As @big ups liquid richard pointed out, most of the donations are coming from the usual suspects with few new givers.

Edit: While I'm thinking about it, I didn't see it mentioned (though I may have missed it), but Phil is 1) doing an Ask the King on the 31st that may or may not be the last one, depending on how it goes (you get 1 guess what the metric there is) and 2) probably going to use the Patreon-funded "retrospective" stream as yet another fundraising begathon.

Yeah, I read it, and my point stands, dude.

This is only a slap fight because you're making it one by acting like a baby and not even reading my posts. Literally said he's not a shill buddy, don't know what more you want.

Side note: DSP would sell out to corporations so fast it would make your head spin if he could.
