The Google Drive thing is where he's fucked, but Disk Utility has a Secure Erase feature with multiple levels of security, and the most secure 0s it 7 times.

You'd possibly be better off taking it out and wiping it on a Linux system, though.

Also swap out the drive for a new drive and reinstall from the recovery feature so you have a generic MacOS install and put in anything you currently use so it isn't quite so obvious.

On the drive wiping.... Why bother? If you have an actual concern that your drives could be seized, you should just incinerate them, or have them properly encrypted. I just recovered almost all the data from a wiped drive on Linux a couple of weeks ago. Fire is your friend in this situation.

They're giving him advanced notice of a pending forensics investigation. That's pretty fucking incompetent, on par with needing more than a half hour to respond to a shooting a few blocks away.

If it were a PC, I'd nuke the movie editing software and torrent apps, then use CCLeaner to remove all temp files with 1 or 3 pass secure erase + wiping free space. DFE in the browser, disavow any Google accounts -- i.e., login to a new one. Hopefully they don't catch it. There's enough plausible deniability there; if they're going after people who connected to the tracker for that file then 1) Holy shit and 2) they're probably just doing a quick search due to the sheer number of people.

Worst case scenario? If I was well and truly fucked -- he's look at what, 24 years? 10 for downloading, 14 for uploading? Maybe 10 more for insulting Muslims or being Aggressively White? How does that compare to destruction of evidence? MACs have a recovery mode that will completely secure wipe a HDD, that might just be the way to go.

Agree, destroy the drive if you're that worried. As for the Google drive account, I wouldbt be too worried they will have to jump through hoops to get in and will probably need some kind of evidence
