Repeating the question I asked in my thread (before it got merged into this one), why is New Zealand and Australia so hellbent on censoring the mosque shooting video? More people died in 9/11, Columbine, and much more, and video footage of those exist, so why aren't videos of the mosque shooting allowed?

There have not to my knowledge been any SCOTUS rulings specifically applicable to the subject of speech on the internet, although there are a few existing precedents that could be referenced if a case did come up. The most commonly referenced is the 1946 Marsh v. Alabama ruling. Specifically, Marsh v. Alabama stated that a company town could not prevent an individual from distributing religious materials despite the fact that they owned the property in question; it's more generally been understood to imply that the more you open your private property to the public, the less ability to have to restrict constitutional freedoms on that property. Most arguments for the internet or social media websites as a "public square" where free speech should be protected stem from this principle.

Concerns of immediate copycats or retaliations and complying with police, which is why it's (seemingly) temporary in Aussie land. It's obnoxious and I disagree with their reasoning, but it's a little bit different than 9/11 which is now a historical event. I think part of it is also that the video is something he recorded himself, instead of news organizations.
I seemingly also remember a supreme court ruling on the idea of obscenity that stated that any speech not deemed obscene is constitutionally protected, and must go through the Miller test. Even internet speech that lacks artistic and political value still often passes the requirement that it not be sexually explicit.

It only includes officially acknowledged attacks though. So officially denied stuff like drone warfare isn't counted in the numbers despite it being an extra-legal assassination program where 9/10 people killed are collateral.
If you're wondering, the numbers in parentheses are perpetrators who died in the attack, like with suicide bombings.
edit: Just wanted to point out that if this CC shooter guy killed as few as 5 actual Jihadi Muslims in his massacre, then he was at least as efficient as the US Executive Drone program wrt collateral death.

Australia has a federal election in May. This is a convenient distraction from the real issues so I'd guess it will last until at least then here.

What a fucking retard. Of course he's a democrat. New Zealand has no authority over the US, websites can host the video and manifesto if they wish. I'm almost certain he's just going after the bigwigs to attempt to bully them into compliance, it's not the first time a Congressman has done so. New Zealand and Australia are attempting to do the same thing, and rope the US into interfering with US companies, which is why they're attempting to force it in the upcoming G20 discussion.
