Someone in my family did go to a church for a while where it was highly discouraged for women to wear pants. It’s definitely still a thing but not that common (the Duggar’s weird church is this way as an example). Seeing women in pants with short hair probably does trigger them because the restrictions tend to come from leadership that resents women on some level (this was the case in my relative’s church), but all they’re going to do is be judgmental though. At least her suit was still formal and seemed to fit decently. I’ve seen people come to nice weddings in cargo shorts. Just my opinion though since I think the amount people care about weddings are already kind of bullshit.

Yes, I know these churches exist but from my experience the expectations to church members and guests, especially in situations like weddings, are different. No matter how fundamentalist everyone knows that expecting non-believers to follow rules they might not know about 100 % is unreasonable. As long as guests are dressed in generally modest and formal manner nobody will care.
