On one hand some of these look okay (the white girl (don't know her franchise) and Haru look fine) but most of these changes are just getting rid of the skin. This leads to having a color imbalance. Skin isn't just for showing off ( ironically) it acts as a nice contrast to your outfit. If your character has dark skin, people usually go with lighter hair as a nice contrast unless the character is suppose to be a normal person. But it's good for when you need to make character stand out a bit more.
Most of these costumes use this rule to an extent. It's not even necessarily because they find them sexy, but they just want to make a design that looks a bit more appealing. It's why costumes usually stick to a set amount of colors, to keep things from getting crazy. Covering that skin up just removes that contrast and makes the character look weird because a part that is supposed to be there, clearly isn't.
I'm not expecting a huge knowledge on character design or anything, but sometimes a bit of skin DOES help. Covering it up doesn't automatically make it more appealing.

...how does that artist not see the irony of Pearl threatening white people not to interact?

I am really curious to see who uses these banners and see how they act in real life because it would be pretty funny contrast.
I don't know why people especially online have this mentality of thinking just because you dawn a pencil or pen and you draw /edit them it means you know how character design works I not saying you can't criticize it. But its just I feel a pompous vibe every time I see these redesigns especially ones that just cover the skin or change the skin tone it feels less like they thought it would be cool to do it and more like " I doing this because I know better than you" like the #respectful_redesign @Brit Crust pointed out. It makes me think they are doing this because ether they think showing skin = bad design no matter the context whether it is for purpose or personality or for other reasons. Overall I am not against the idea of trying to redesign a character I just think the way all of them go in this thread so far seems to come from ether spitefulness or with personal insecurity.

Ochaco isn't even showing any extra skin in her original design which baffles me the most. Usually with redraws they "fix" the characters by covering them up but this just made her look a lot more boring and frumpy which is...progressive I guess?

I can understand why Momo would need less clothes given her powers. But these redesigners refuse to acknowledge that.
