Culture YouTube releases it's YouTube Rewind for 2018

  • Iniciador del tema Iniciador del tema Null
  • Fecha de inicio Fecha de inicio
Usually these things are masturbatory self-indulgences for the YT community featuring a lot of e-celebs. They start off with PewDiePie declaring "YEAR REWIND" and then showing some dumb shit for the fans.

This one
  • Starts with Will Smith (who isn't a YouTuber).
  • Has Ninja (who isn't a YouTuber).
  • A Fortnite gag.
  • No PDP because he said the word NIGGER.
  • A bunch of people no one cares about.
  • An entire two minute long scene celebrating diversity, women, and non-whites.
  • Locked chat with the people in the video watching it together and live commenting with the most cringe inducing shit I've ever fucking seen.
Currently it's at about 70% dislikes and sinking. The comments are tearing it to shit. For all the talk of diversity, one commenter from Brasil pointed out that there are no Brazilian YouTubers present. Sorry menino, you faggots don't wear hijabs and don't hate Trump enough. Better luck in 2019.

I absolutely agree with this headline, I just disagree with who he thinks has the personality problem. When 80% of your audience is telling you you're shit, maybe... just maybe you should reconsider your actions. Just a thought.

I wonder how many dislikes next year's rewind will get? Considering they've been getting worse since 2016, I imagine it could break this year's record.

Could Pornhub put out a streaming service that avoids being stained with the company's main product? Kind of doubt it.

Is that going to matter if they're trying to attract the people who have been kicked off YouTube for being controversial? I have problems believing that the majority of today's internet users would care if pornhub was the company behind a SFW video site either. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd certainly like to see them try. They're probably the only company I'd trust to protect people's speech as it stands right now.

Youtube should be happy, age, sex, religion, politics, nationality: pretty muchevery valuable demographic has finally come together to overwhelmingly agree on something. Of course, they're united in hating Youtube itself.

I guess you could call that a partial success. :story:

i wonder if we're reaching or will ever reach a critical point with these tech companies who have become so estranged from their userbase that they will actually get hurt. the thing that's so weird about them is that they are part of an entire industry where their users and their customers are two completely different groups of people. the users are the people who watch the videos, but the customers are the advertisers/market research people. for a while, yt could satisfy both. but now, they have to choose, and if they want to stay afloat, they'll choose to satisfy their customers (advertisers) at the cost of estranging their audience/viewers/users.

an interesting question is whether or not estranging the userbase will ever matter. the only possible way it could is if people get so fed up that they abandon youtube and either find other ways to get video entertainment or do something else with their time. complaining on the platform about a product that isn't intended to satisfy you in the first place doesn't do anything.

it seems they've managed to sanitize content and bend over their userbase without actually triggering a mass migration, so they'll probably just continue on this path as long as they can.

The main thing that has kept Youtube viable, and allowed it to continue maintaining its currently unsustainable business model, is the lack of any real competition in its sphere of influence. The few that rise up (Dailymotion, Vimeo) generally only gain middling success. It will be interesting to see what happens now though; many prominent Youtubers are spreading their influence (and videos) to other sites, like Bitchute and Bit.Tube specifically because of Youtube's asshattery and encouraging their current audience to follow them there, especially if they should ever be taken down. This is especially common among those who know they will be the most likely to be targeted in any purge, which are largely those people who are already facing the likes of demonetization and safe mode shenanigans. The one thing that has kept smaller competitors down is that everyone naturally gravitates towards Youtube; Youtube is already so large, entrenched, and ubiquitous, that if you don't have a channel there, you will essentially not have an audience anywhere, because everyone is on there already. As these Youtubers and "influencers" with built in fanbases begin shifting to other platforms, willingly or not, they may take their fanbases with them, and that could change the landscape and the current situation.

They protect people's sexy speech, yes, but are just as left leaning as Google in other areas. Its not often they take a stand, but I remember them doing so once in regards to something Trump related.

Lol @ the media coverage of this. They think they're being so sneaky and clever by blaming the dislikes on no Pewdiepie or Logan Paul- which, don't get me wrong, did play a part, sure. But they won't even touch, can't even bear the slightest wiff, of the idea that people don't like YouTube and Silicon Valley's political and moral brand. That maybe Youtube participated in and then tried to cover up an outright scam, and people don't like that. That people don't like degenerate gay subcultures. That people don't like being chided for a problem that is almost solely the domain of woke, progressive Hollywood. That people don't like rapefugees. That people don't like forced diversity.

No, it can't possibly be that people disliked the message that youtube presented in its video, oh no! All of those dislikes are because a few prominent YouTubers are missing, no other reason, no need to talk or think about it further.

Silicon Valley is on a mission to save the world. The goal is not to give the audience what its wants, its to convince the audience it wants what silicon valley is going to give.

The situation is cultural localization. The Internet appears to give a wide range of cultural and political interactions, but it only seems that way to us losers who spend our days arguing on open internet forums and engaging in cross banter between Canadian, Australians and Russians. The people who run or own these platforms don't have the time to actually participate in any meaningful way with the platforms they run. To say Youtube is out of touch with its user base is to assume the people that run Youtube use Youtube. They don't. There is no cultural tie between Youtube the company, and Youtube the platform. The culture that is relevant to them is the culture of Silicon Valley, where they actually live and work. They simply don't understand anything else.

That said, anyone who wants to do a tech start up should stay away from Silicon Valley. There is a sweet Tech corridor on the US East Coast that runs down I-95 and I-81 through Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina that is served by numerous high end tech institutions like UNC, Virginia Tech, and the University of Maryland. The cost of living in these States is Cheaper, the people aren't insane, and the tech companies that do operate in that area are all about the money and not a messianic vision to change the culture of America.

It's more like someone told the writer to come up with something and he spent 15 minutes calling a bunch of people Nazis and insulting the people

Well, that's what the AV Club is, now. A site created to talk about entertainment no longer believes in escapism, just aggressive wokeness.

The distillation of the identity politics thought process. 'You can't dislike me for who I am, it must be because of what I am. No self-reflection needed, I'm fine and you're a bigot.' They are the Principal Skinner 'No, it is the children who are wrong' meme made manifest.

its been stated in the past, that sjw, politcal correctness, identity politics, far left ideas, etc.. are the ideas from a minority group of people
this video could prove that is correct

I think the 2016 and 2018 elections, and the Kavanaugh hearing, proved that already.

This article is so autistic that I had to read it like three times before I realized it's not a troll. Or maybe I'm that autistic, don't even know anymore.
But God damn. "proving once and for all- like Twitter has done many times-that getting those clicks is really all that matters."
That... that is fucking special. Think I'll cut the computer and read a book in my spare time for the next three days.

They protect people's sexy speech, yes, but are just as left leaning as Google in other areas. Its not often they take a stand, but I remember them doing so once in regards to something Trump related.
I believe Pornhub is a Canadian company, so it's likely they'd be against Drumpf and his ilk.

In and of itself, Youtube Rewind 2018 becoming the most downvoted video in the history of the platform is almost meaningless, barring the hilarity that is Youtube itself being responsible for the single-most-reviled video on its own platform. It's only when you look closer at it, via the unique cross-section of the tubernets that being on the Farms tends to make you look at, however, that you can fully appreciate the bigger implications.

Think, if you will, how many times we've seen this shit: The game sites that go under only to have their staff wind up scooped by another worthless game journalism outlet and pop up later, doing the same things, only to fail once more. The agenda-pushing videos Youtube puts up fostering their pet cause of the month, often outright insulting the userbase's intelligence, which then get downvoted into oblivion so hard that they then disallow ratings and comments, only for them to put more up later and piss off the userbase all over again. The progressive news sites that go under because nobody fucking reads them, and blame everyone but themselves. The clickbait sites that shut down because they polluted the water too much, only to be revived later as if it won't happen this time if they do it enough.

It's all enough to beg the question: "Who is asking for this?" The userbase self-evidently isn't.

So what about the economic angle? Well, obviously, many of the above examples have been economic train-wrecks. So that's strike one. But there's other ways this shit just isn't profitable. Google has increasingly found itself having to pay back tens of millions of dollars in Ad Fraud when botnets and click-through scripts drove millions of dollars in fake traffic to websites and Google refused to refund money for the fakes, despite outlining that they're supposed to in their own policies. That's actually been an increasing problem for Google's ad buy-ins, to the point where many companies are flat-out considering adsense not worth it. There's strike two. Throw in the fact that Google openly admits it's manipulating traffic and search results, to the point where it's faced antitrust suits for throttling competition, and with strike three, we know Google likely isn't making that much, if any, money on this shit.

Which leaves only the political angle as the reason they keep doing it. And it's more and more apparent as things go on, to the point where more and more people who otherwise would have been content to fucking ignore it aren't. It'll be very interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

I predict that the votes will go back in YouTube's favor at a massive rate very quickly. They won't even have to manipulate anything. The people who are downvoting it early are those who are already predisposed to hate this massive pile of shit every year. More normal users will come in and hit like.
so doing the math, likes quadrupled, yes, but there's 12 times more dislikes than there were when null posted the first post

Here you got what the "good guys" of the internet are up to these days.
Fuck Google. Fuck it with a huge red hot rod.

They're already aware of that. They don't care. It feeds into their victim narrative, that they're a small group of misunderstood geniuses fighting against a tide of evil racism.

Looking at all this kinda reminds me of something Steven Pinker tweeted a while back...if we've gotten to the point where we're trashing each other over trivial shit like this, maybe, just maybe, society is actually pretty good.

I believe Pornhub is a Canadian company, so it's likely they'd be against Drumpf and his ilk.

They're based in Montreal and if Montreal taught me anything it's that Quebecois businessmen are fiercely concerned about the bottom line. The Quebecois would rather purge their workforce of malcontents than even entertain the thought of trying to go woke.

After watching this I now know what having cancer feels like.

Also at 1:31 I swear I can hear the video say "they call me a autist".
prob the fucked up new york pronunciation of "artist".

or maybe he is a autist? or maybe an artistic autist. i mean aren't they all?

i never pay attention to this shit, so thanks for advising me its my civic duty to downvote.

always happy to help out.
