Oof

What was it like before this, is my real question. Either way, that's what happens when you go BEST KOREA on anything on the internet, especially poorly designed & developed shitholes like Tumblr.

So, is Reddit next? Because that I gotta see alongside this, too.

Sorry if this has been said before, but it's pretty nasty that Tumblr's only now pretending to care about cracking down on the fucked up shit that's been on their platform for years for the sole purpose of getting their app back on the store.

Hopefully they'll listen to their users for once before they really do go under, because despite how shitty the community can be, when it comes to stuff like this the people of Tumblr do a far better job of handling things than the staff. It's mostly because of the users taking action that Tumblr wasn't busted for this kind of thing ages ago.

I don't think the staff has listened to the actual users for years now.

Link on how to back up all of a tumblr blog. Sharing this for people who have their own tumblrs or have friends that do.

Edit: This can also be used to back up lolcows by reblogging their content and then exporting it.

I'm late on this and I don't know how late I am, but if it's any use to anyone here, Archive Team is also undergoing a massive effort of archiving nsfw Tumblr blogs. They have a submission form here. I don't doubt there are at least some blogs of importance to threads in this board.

Based on their statistics in July, they've lost anywhere between 100mil and 50mil site views since summer ended. After November they lost about 1 million site views. So basically, they've been bleeding users since summer anyways.

A few Tumblr users have been testing out the limits of what the censors will catch. Porn bots have already discovered that simply tagging things as "SFW" will automatically make it pass.

This thread has some pretty good insight on just how fucking incompetent Tumblr staff is.

They're actually using open source software for this? For a site the size of Tumblr, with guidelines as obscenely picky as the ones they laid out for the NSFW ban? Geez, I was under the impression that they might survive with a SMALL userbase, but if this is all true then they successfully played themselves on multiple different levels.

Can't wait til they panic-nuke the 'sfw' tag.

Tumblr will no longer be allowing NSFW or SFW content. You will stare at your blank, blue dash and like it.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this culminates when Dec 17 rolls around. A lot of artists, even ones that don’t make anything nsfw, seem like they have one foot in the life raft already, but even with all false-flags going around there’s been some users who kinda float between :optimistic: “I’m not a nsfw artist so this won’t effect me and besides I’m sure Tumblr will fix the buggy filters eventually” and “I have too many followers to leave.”

These also seem to be the kind of people who don’t check to see if anything they have is falsely flagged too, so I get the feeling some of them will be in for a sucker punch.
