Let's face it, horror or not, games did have scary moments. What are yours?

In my case, I was afraid to play Super Mario Bros. 3 because of those boos. And I was like 5 when that game first came out. That dungeon music didn't help either.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Let's see, Like-Likes were so terrifying, how they just slither towards you and try to eat you. And Redeads and Gibdos.

That fucking hotel in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

No monsters attack you, shit flies at you. I'm playing a god damn vampire and ghost are scaring the shit out of me. Going through the hotel and reading about how this guy went crazy killed his family and did stuff like put his sons head in the dryer. That game really captured the feel of Old World of Darkness.

that mission in red dead 2 where you're supposed to hunt down a cougar in a dark cave is both frightening and absolute bullshit

Última edición:
People talk about the ReDeads from Ocarina of Time, but the ones from Wind Waker are the true stuff of nightmares:

The final chapter of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was also pretty terrifying - having to fight off hordes of endlessly respawning zombies. Even when you clear them out and things go quiet it's somehow even more frightening. The soundtrack has all these horrifying moans and groans in the distance that signal what's to come:

The chainsaw men in Resident Evil 4 petrified me as a kid.

Doom TNT: Evilution's MAP30's platform puzzle gave me the chills once; when I've jumped to the wrong platform, I didn't only get teleported to a dark ass area but also received an instant death.

There's a voodoo doll thingy inside the dark area. If Doomguy walks onto the puzzle's wrong platform, he gets teleported there and telefrags himself.

A lot of stuff in Ocarina of Time used to scare me as well. (And by extension Majora's Mask)

Wolfos popping out of the ground and howling freaked me out.

Redeads were creepy as hell.

I remember when I was younger, the Berserkers in Gears of War 1 scared the hell out of me. Having to deal with something that was blind but can easily hear you, charge at you and insta-kill you made for some very tense moments.

Silent Hill 2 was more depressing than scary to me, but Pyramid Head did catch me off guard a couple times throughout.

Amnesia definitely made me fairly paranoid of my surroundings. Particularly during the Water Monster sequences.

Spyro 1 also had some enemies that kinda scared me as a kid. The dogs from Toasty's level were pretty scary to me. (Of course, now in Reignited, they are pretty cuddly looking).

There were also the damned spiders in that one Magic Crafters level, the Frogs, and a lot of stuff from Dream Weavers. Although I haven't seen what they all look like yet in Reignited.

Wadanohara: I cannot properly play it because I don't have RPG 2000, so there were multiple boxes popping up.

Misao: The second floor that never ends with the creepy girl ghost after you reach the end of it.

Persona 4: Your Affection (fan game)
Fucking Shadow Yu Narukami's sneer.

I distinctly remember running out of the arcade crying after seeing this as a child.

Speaking of Resident Evil 4, how has nobody mentioned these yet?:

shivers

the only part of the game where the devs actually realized they were still working on a fucking RESIDENT EVIL game.

it's been a while since I've played a scary game but, this is one of the moments that I remember that got a jump scare out of me:

and in the sequel, the part where a giant rabies infected bear runs after you.
