I don't think Chris realizes how easily transmittable conjunctivitis is; I'm not sure if feline-human transmission is as common as human-human but if it is he's putting himself at more health risks that he can't afford. This is particularly gross. He's countering arguments to give them to a shelter because they're "his new family." He's establishing urgency by stating the need for "immediate medical attention" and that he's afraid they won't survive to the end of the year. And he's framing it as helping the poor, innocent animals, totally not as giving him money for toys. It's all fucked. Also, did he take the mother into the house too?

I still wouldn't say that this constitutes animal abuse. He's exploiting them for personal monetary gain, but at this point in time, it's not abuse. Either way, he should take the cats to the Madison-Greene Humane Society, I don't trust that he can properly care for them in the long term.
