I'd say it's because back in the day, those shows did have a lot of yaoi art. In fact, they still do, but it's really just yaoi; the whole "MAKE EVERYBODY GAY/TRANS" thing wasn't really a thing back when they were popular. But BNHA/MHA is special in the fact that it came out in 2015, so a lot of those yaoi fangirls grew up to become the maniacs we see in these threads and draw stuff like that.

That was what I was trying to say, actually. My point was that the people we see now who are blatently making characters gay or trans are the same type of people who, if they were around 10 years ago, would've been the yaoi fangirls promoting Naru/Sasu and Gon/Killua.
They were hated then, they're just as hated now. They just come in different forms.
