Super Smash Bros. Community

Speaking of FE Characters I remember upon the announcement of Corrin, people complained about "Another anime swordsman" being in Smash. Years later, those same people wanted Lyn, a character who is pretty much only good looks. She's a trash unit that you HAVE to use and level up to get the best results, and there are other units who outclass her. In reality, Lyn is pretty much irrelevant past a certain point in FE7. Hector would've been a better choice for multiple reasons.

Smash fans are hypocrites at best.

Too many Swordsmen.
Too many Pokemon.

Want more of either.

Complain that what was added wasn't needed.

Rinse and repeat.

Bayonetta caused drama. People said she can't fit in the game because her game is "Violent". Yet they never bat an eye at Snake being in it or beg for the DOOM guy or Travis Touch Down.

I love the addition of "echo fighters", because now Nintendo can just shove all kinds of characters in that are barely unique from existing characters and it won't make the game feel as bloated.

That being said, prepare for every forgettable Fire Emblem character (most of them, let's be honest) to be shoved in for the ten people who still enjoy that franchise.

I like the Echo Fighter idea. Just people are gonna moan about who isn't an echo fighter or who doesn't deserve to be one.

Smash Ultimate already has 65 fighters and that feels like enough. There are people who won't be happy until Smash Bros has a thousand characters.

Hate to nitpick fam, but Fates has sold at least 1.6 million copies and Echoes did alright for a side game. It's not like pre-Awakening when they were in danger of cancelling the series for lack of sales.

I don't think they'll add loads of FE characters, but it's possible that they'll add the main FE character for Three Houses (the new one coming out on Switch) at some point, because they did something like that last time round.

They've done that for two FE games at this point because Roy was like that as well.

Also in spoilers, some Echo Fighter related discussions.
I've noted that the Metal Box seems to be missing, Dark Samus is no longer an alt color for Samus or an assist trophy, Shadow The Hedgehog has been succeeded by Knuckles as an assist trophy, and Ike lost his Chrom color palette. Whether or not this could mean they're echo fighters are not is up for debate, especially since we already got one new Metroid rep. Whether or not this could mean anyone/everyone will have an echo fighter is also up in the air. I'd personally really want Alm, Dixie, and Mike Jones to be echoes of Roy, Diddy, and Ness respectively.

Ok, I'm calmer now.

> clone characters are a thing now

Lol what. Clones have existed since the original smash on N64.

I mean, the game now literally tells you the character is a reskin (or clone). Before that, Nintendo at least pretended to give different movesets for similar characters, but now they simply can't give a shit anymore. I just think it's lazy for a multi-million dollar game production.

But I'm old and nostalgic of a time where games came with cartridges of 4 mega and had just enough content to be fun. Sorry guys.

I believe restrictions are the best way to stimulate creativity, nowadays games just look empty even with billion of content. There's someting more boring than generic open world games? That's my feeling with these recent Smash Bros games.

But my point is: fans begging for dozens of characters ultimately forced Nintendo to do these boring clones, that was the reason of my rant. Just that!

People want other third parties or Indies and use the excuse of "WELL IT APPEARED ON NINTENDO! IT BELONGS ON SMASH!!"

Speaking of 3rd party characters, I know a bunch of spergs wanted Nintendo to put Goku from DBZ in the game for years for some stupid fucking reason. Is that very vocal group of morons whining that there's no Goku trailer yet?

Your avatar also reminded me that it would be pretty rad to see Simon Belmont get put in the game. The Castlevania series was pretty big for Nintendo once upon a time and that franchise really help put the NES on the map.

We're sort of moving away from the community and just talking about the game, so here's the newest "controversy."

People are using this as justification that the new Smash game is a port of the previous one. Except, you know, every sequel does this. If you're building a house, you don't burn the blueprints from the last one you made and start from scratch each time. Or, more aptly, if you're coding something which is the same thing as last time functionally but just fundamentally different, you don't start coding from nothing.

By the same logic, every Smash game since 64 is a port since it was built from the previous game. If you're using the same engine but improved and you consider that a port, then that's like calling games like Majora's Mask just Ocarina of Time 1.5, or saying Portal is just a really short Half Life 2.

You really have to feel bad for Sakurai. Dude busts his ass off and puts his health on the line just to help develop this game only for a bunch of whiny manchildren to go on social media and whine because Shrek isn't in the game.

I had friends who complained how Smash Ultimate will have you work to unlock the characters instead of getting everyone at the start and called it a disappointing game because of that.

According to this interview in the tweet, you'll be able to pick and choose which character you want to unlock by spending the in-game funny money which you earn by just playing it. Not like a phone or "freemium" game, though, but like a traditional console game. The comparison Sakurai used was like a racing game where you use the prize money to buy new cars, but even faster and easier than that since the roster is huge. Supposedly it's much quicker and more streamlined than the previous Smash games.

But that's one thing I preferred about Brawl over Smash 4. In Brawl, you had to unlock more characters than in Sm4sh, and it felt more satisfying getting a new fighter. Plus, Sm4sh had a larger chunk of its roster readily available.

People are such big babies, I for one am kinda excited to unlock characters again in Smash. Seeing the NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHING silhouettes before fighting them was hype as hell.

It's not like that, but they hate that they don't have every character already and have to work to get the characters.

Ocarina of Time is technically a Mario 64 port by those people’s logic. They’re probably the same crowd who cluck and sigh about developer laziness when they see one of those FPS-from-third-person shots where the player model is just floating arms and a gun or whatever weirdness the devs decided to cram in to fit the spec.

I won't be happy till it's "Pooh's Adventures of Smash Bros".

I would be completely okay with smash Mugen tbh.

Busted his ass? Dude, his arms were hurting so bad in Smash 4's development and also worked so hard on Brawl that he fell asleep during development, even going as far as no meals or breaks. Sakurai loves his work even if it could be seen as stressful to others. His work ethic is dangerous but admirable.

Huh, like Marvel Vs Capcom 2, then. I hope they do that with songs too. Having to go through Master Orders just to get the remix of Mute City from Brawl was the biggest pain in my ass.

Edit: Actually, not just songs. Everything. I'm thinking Sakurai wants the gold to be worth something. Assuming that customs will come back, that'd be neat too.
