General Wrestling Discussion

Shawn Michaels is overrated. I've been watching old matches and whenever it comes to a Shawn match I just don't get the reason why people cream there pants over him.
New Generation-era WWF was a wasteland of dumb gimmicks, shitty workers, and general looney tunes bullshit compounded by massive business loss from the steroid/ring boy scandals in the early 90's. Bret, Shawn, and Undertaker were the only people keeping the thing watchable back then.
Also without Shawn Michaels, Hiroshi Tanahashi would have never entered the wrestling business and the world would be worse off for it.

To be fair, I wasn't watching it back then, so a lot of my opinion of him is formed from like the late-middle to the end of his career.

I think Enzo could potentially be a decent rapper but that botched "Mystikal" delivery style where he's shouting over himself is unlistenable and makes all his punchlines incomprehensible. What a murky mess the production on that track is. "Cash me outside" girl has better flow and better sound quality.

Yokazuna Gen2 is gonna be a draw.

Meanwhile down in Mexico the interview/news program for CMLL yesterday had a surprise announcement of somebody entering the Arena Mexico Zone
This puts Fenix on TV for four different companies, Lucha Underground, MLW, CMLL, and Impact Wrestling. And dirtsheets say Pentagon jr is expected to be in CMLL as well, presumably as Penta El 0M. Further dirtsheetery goes as far as to suggest they still might show up in AAA related to Konnan's MAD group there.

Rockin Rebel, a former ecw preliminary wrestler, pulled a Chris Benoit from the sounds of it

holy shit AAA's show just ended
So the new faction's in town, MAD, they were led by Konnan in MDA and they've got Juvi, Teddy Hart, and Kevin Kross.
Last few shows their Mysterious Leader has very obviously been Konnan with his cane.
Last show the cane was missing, and he had a guitar!
Tonight the Mysterious Leader came out to identify himself and
JEFF JARRETT!!! So because wrestling Jeff Jarrett is added to the main event of Rey Mysterio jr vs Rey Wagner (formerly Dr Wagner jr).
And it's all going into a normal clusterfuck of AAA-ing, then a ref bump.
this is really a big deal because Fenix is appearing on the rival promotion CMLL's show on Friday

It's not quite as dramatic as being in WWF and WCW at the same time but it's a bigger deal than when ROH and Impact get along.

AAA had a press conference today announcing the two other people in their 4 way Psycho Clown vs Hijo del Fantasma vs ?? vs ?? loser-loses-mask match

LA Park and Pentagon jr will be working Triplemania and also work CMLL at the same time similar to how Fenix is apparently working AAA and CMLL simultaneously.
Dirtsheets say attitudes are changing in CMLL about outside people and cooperating, and AAA is a smaller company than CMLL so it's like asking Impact if they'd like to play nice and share talent with WWE.

Billy Gunn has a son? And a wrestler too?

http://www.pwmania.com/billy-gunns-son-on-being-teased-as-a-kid-over-the-billy-chuck-gimmick

Billy Gunn’s son, Austin Gunn, did his first ever interview with WSVN-TV’s Chris Van Vliet at the Wrestling For Warriors event. Here are the highlights (transcript courtesy of Wrestling Inc).

His father’s Billy and Chuck gimmick as a kid:

“He kind of sat us down when that whole thing was getting really hot and he was like ‘Listen, your dad’s not really gay and this is a whole gimmick.’ But at school they’d be all like ‘Oh, your dad’s gay. Your dad’s kissing another dude.’ I’d be like ‘That’s not my dad. I have a mom. What do you mean?’ and I’d be trying to put the pieces together. I understood the business enough back then to know my dad wasn’t really gay. But I got a little heat for that.”

Getting into pro wrestling:

“Growing up and just being around the business, I met The Rock and Stone Cold and it was all normal to me at the time. In school kids would be like ‘What, your dad’s a wrestler?’ and it was just like an everyday thing for me. Growing up I kind of got a better understanding of the business and kind of how it worked and I was like ‘Maybe I’ll be kind of good at this.’ My parents said I couldn’t do it until I went to college and graduated first and that’s understandable. I just graduated this past Mother’s Day and I’m ready to get into it.”

NJPW Dominion just ended and...

Kenny is the champ and the match was great.
Gaijins won all the way down. Jericho, with his dad body, is IC champ FFS. Wasn't expecting that.
NJPW all set for American dates they have booked. Looks like Juice will beat Crinegblade in the States as well.

Obviously NJPW had the bigger night with their major show, but CMLL had a very above-average Friday Night Arena Mexico with more LA Park / Rush, the successful CMLL debut of Rey Fenix, a good one-one-one match between Hechicero and Stuka jr, and some other good stuff.

I just finished watching NJPW Dominion and I have to say the Omega vs Okada match is probably my favorite match in a decade, probably in two. I can't remember a champion pushing away a title to hug it out with his friends after such a story Omega has had with the Young Bucks and the Bullet Club over the past couple of months. Only thing I don't like is how close Red Shoes get's to the wrestlers, least their camera crews can get some awesome shots.

Also, Chris reminded me of Black Reign lol.

I couldn't find a UFC thread, so this will have to do. Apologies.

Colby Covington's post win interview was epic.

I read the play-by-play of the Punk/Jackson fight on Bloody Elbow. When random commentators say Punks face is a bloody mess, it's a friggin mess.

Also of note: Dana White said both Punk and Jackson were done in the promotion. Punk for being absolutely terrible and Jackson for not attempting to finish the fight (which he had multiple opportunities to do so, even allowing Punk back up after a clean knockdown punch). See you in September, Punk!
